Sherwin-Williams’ 2025 Color Capsule of the Year replaces the program’s single annual headline shade with a nine-color palette. The company introduced the capsule for the 15th anniversary of its Color of the Year program, combining selections from several of its color collections rather than presenting one defining hue.

The nine colors in the 2025 Color Capsule
Sherwin-Williams says the capsule contains nine colors chosen to work individually, in selected pairings or as a broader color story. Their appearance will vary with lighting, the painted surface, neighboring colors and personal perception.

Why the 2025 format is a capsule instead of one color
For the program’s 15th anniversary, Sherwin-Williams says it moved from an annual focus on one pivotal hue to a curated group. Its stated goal was to select colors that work together or in chosen pairings, adapt to different aesthetics and help homeowners create an individual color story.

Choose by room, light and surface
- Identify whether the room receives cool daylight, warm daylight or mostly artificial light.
- Consider the surface: walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors and trim can make the same formula read differently.
- Decide whether you want a quiet neutral, an earthy anchor, a botanical accent or a softer mauve note.
Build a pairing deliberately
Use a lighter neutral such as Sunbleached or White Snow to establish a base, then test a deeper or more chromatic capsule color on an accent wall, built-in, door or furnishing. Grounded and Clove can provide visual weight; Bosc Pear and Chartreuse can add a livelier accent; Rain Cloud, Malabar and Mauve Finery can shift the mood without requiring a fully saturated room. These are practical starting points, not prescribed combinations from Sherwin-Williams.
Test before buying full-room quantities
- Order or collect a color chip for the candidate shade.
- Compare the chip beside the room’s flooring, countertops, upholstery and trim.
- Use a paint sample or peel-and-stick sample on the actual wall or surface. Sherwin-Williams lists free chips, paint samples and peel-and-stick samples on its official page, although the available formats differ by shade.
- View the sample in morning, afternoon and evening light before committing.
- Check the color on more than one wall if the room receives uneven light.
For a large project, compare sample formats first and confirm the current product and availability directly with Sherwin-Williams.
