GuruFocus News reported that exchange-traded funds (ETFs) increased their Sherwin-Williams holdings by a net $38.9 million on October 1, 2026. The figure is a reported one-day holdings-change estimate—not proof that investors made a discretionary bet on SHW or that the stock is likely to rise.
What the October 1 ETF report says
In a report published October 5, GuruFocus News said 31 ETFs added Sherwin-Williams shares and 18 reduced their holdings for the October 1 observation. It identified SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (DIA) as the largest buyer by dollar value, at $47.6 million, followed by SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF (SPYM) at $2.4 million and ProShares UltraPro Dow30 (UDOW) at $0.7 million. GuruFocus News’ October 5 report is the source for these daily figures.
The reported $47.6 million DIA purchase is larger than the $38.9 million net total. The listed buyer amounts therefore should not be read as separate contributions that add up to the net figure. The report does not establish the calculation conventions or the selling amounts needed to reconcile the numbers, and the holdings-change estimate has not been independently reproduced here from primary data.

How the reported activity compares across five sessions
GuruFocus News’ table gives the following net reported ETF holdings changes for the five sessions shown:

That table shows four positive sessions and one negative session. The same report’s separate summary says there were three buyer days and two seller days, which conflicts with the five daily entries. The table’s session-by-session values are the clearer account of the period.

What ETF holdings changes can—and cannot—tell you
A change in reported ETF holdings is an observation about shares held, not a direct measure of investor conviction or a forecast for SHW. Holdings can change through index tracking, portfolio adjustments, fund creations or redemptions, or other mechanics. GuruFocus News does not identify which mechanism drove the October 1 figure, so the report does not establish why the holdings changed or whether the funds’ managers chose to make a directional bet.
The $38.9 million figure is GuruFocus News’ estimate based on holdings changes. It should not be treated as an audited exchange-wide measure or as a number confirmed by Sherwin-Williams, an ETF issuer, or a regulator. Nor does a single reported session establish a trend or a likely share-price move.

Sherwin-Williams makes, develops, distributes, and sells paint, coatings, and related products to professional, industrial, commercial, and retail customers, according to the company. Its 2025 year-end results reported consolidated net sales of $23.574 billion and 4,853 Paint Stores Group locations at year end. These figures describe the business; they do not explain the ETF holdings change. See the company’s 2025 year-end results.
For another operating snapshot, the company’s second-quarter 2026 release reported net sales of $6.79 billion, up 7.5% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $3.43, up 14.3%. Those results provide financial context, but the company did not establish them as a cause of the October 1 ETF holdings changes.
