Holiday hosting can feel welcoming without elaborate decor or a formal menu. Invite guests early, plan where food and drinks will go, and add a few reusable seasonal touches. For a cozy drink station, serve pumpkin spice Irish coffee made with hot coffee, pumpkin spice syrup or caramel sauce, Irish whiskey and whipped cream.

Choose pieces that work beyond one holiday

Quick pumpkin spice Irish coffee

A fuller pumpkin-coffee recipe option
For a more detailed version, Food Network credits Alex Guarnaschelli with a pumpkin spice coffee recipe yielding 2 to 4 drinks. This is a separate recipe from the quick syrup-or-sauce method above.
Ingredients
- About 3/4 cup pumpkin spice mix
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 1/2 cups strongly brewed hot coffee
- Two 2-ounce shots of whiskey
- Whipped cream and cinnamon, for topping
For the pumpkin spice mix, combine one 15-ounce can of pumpkin puree, 1 cup milk, 1 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons molasses, 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt.

Method
- Warm and froth the 1/2 cup milk.
- Combine the warm pumpkin spice mix and milk.
- Stir the mixture into the hot coffee and whiskey.
- Top with whipped cream and cinnamon. Serve in tall heat-resistant glasses or mugs.
Food Network says leftover pumpkin mix can be refrigerated for up to one week. Keep it chilled promptly and use a clean, covered container.

What makes Irish coffee distinctive?
Tourism Ireland’s traditional recipe warms a glass, dissolves 1 teaspoon brown sugar with Irish whiskey and hot strong black coffee, then floats lightly whipped cream over the back of a spoon. Its instruction is: “Do not stir after adding the cream; the best flavour comes from drinking the coffee and Irish whiskey through the cream.” The pumpkin version is a seasonal variation rather than that traditional preparation.

Keep buffet food safe
For holiday food handling, follow FoodSafety.gov’s and the FDA’s core practices: clean, separate, cook and chill. Keep raw meat, poultry, seafood and eggs apart from other foods, and cook foods to safe internal temperatures. FoodSafety.gov identifies 40°F–140°F as the temperature danger zone.
- Refrigerate or freeze perishable food within two hours, or within one hour if it has been exposed to temperatures above 90°F.
- Use pasteurized eggs in dishes that call for raw eggs; cook raw or lightly cooked egg dishes thoroughly or use pasteurized eggs.
- Keep hot and cold foods from lingering at room temperature during a buffet; return perishables to refrigeration within the applicable time limit.
These time limits are food-safety guidance, not a substitute for cooking each food to its safe internal temperature.
