“Sprinkles Baby Quilt” refers to two different quilt projects in the available sources. The AllPeopleQuilt project by Lissa Alexander finishes at 40.5 inches square and uses four Courthouse Steps blocks. The separate Jaybird Quilts pattern by Julie Herman is listed at 37 × 44 inches. Choose by designer or publication before using either project’s size, materials, or instructions.

Moda’s June 7, 2016 post identifies the Jaybird design and its use of the Sidekick Ruler. The Cotton Patch listing describes the printed pattern and its dimensions. These are separate designs: do not apply one version’s yardage or construction directions to the other.

AllPeopleQuilt: materials and construction
The AllPeopleQuilt instructions give fabric quantities based on 42 inches of usable fabric width. Assorted-fabric totals are grouped where the pattern allows a mix of prints.
- 7/8 yard total assorted light pink and lavender prints
- 1/3 yard magenta print
- 3/8 yard total assorted gold stripes
- 7/8 yard total assorted dark pink and purple prints
- 1/2 yard dark pink dot for binding
- 2 3/4 yards backing
- One 49-inch-square piece of batting
How the blocks are assembled
- Use a 1/4-inch seam allowance, sewing right sides together unless the instructions state otherwise.
- Build each Courthouse Steps block outward from its center with pieced strips and alternating colors. Make four blocks, each 20 inches finished.
- Arrange the four blocks in pairs. Rotate the top-right and bottom-left blocks 90 degrees, then join the pairs to form the quilt top.
- Layer the top with batting and backing, baste the layers, quilt as desired, and bind the edges.
Michelle Parker’s sample was quilted with the Honey, Honey pantograph; that is the sample’s quilting choice, not a required step or pattern setting.

Jaybird Quilts: ruler or templates
The Jaybird version is designed around 2.5-inch strips and background fabric. Cotton Patch describes the pattern as traditionally pieced and intermediate. Its listing says the design works with the Sidekick Ruler, Super Sidekick Ruler, or Fussy Cut Shapes, and that paper templates are included as an alternative. The ruler is therefore an option for following the pattern, not an unavoidable purchase.

- Choose the AllPeopleQuilt project if you want the square 40.5-inch design, a four-block Courthouse Steps layout, and an instruction page with specified fabric and batting quantities.
- Choose the Jaybird Quilts pattern if you want Julie Herman’s rectangular 37 × 44-inch design, work with 2.5-inch strips, and prefer the ruler-based approach or the included paper templates.
AllPeopleQuilt says its patterns and articles go through work by editors, copy editors, quilt testers, and technical editors. That describes the publisher’s editorial process; the available sources do not provide an independent comparative evaluation of the two patterns.
