A stick figure LED costume can be bought as a ready-made jumpsuit or built by attaching flexible LED strips to dark clothing. The clearest documented DIY method uses five one-meter flexible silicone LED strips, an adjustable strap harness, and a battery pack; it needs no controller or code for a single-color setup. A preassembled outfit may save assembly time, but verify its current specifications and seller terms before buying.
Choose between a ready-made jumpsuit and a DIY outline
| Factor | Ready-made outfit | DIY LED outline |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | A retailer search result for a Joyfy adult jumpsuit describes a hooded outfit with built-in LED strips. The live listing should be checked to confirm what is included. Retail listing | The Adafruit tutorial documents five one-meter flexible silicone neon-like LED strips mounted on a harness over close-fitting dark clothing. Adafruit build guide |
| Assembly | Potentially less assembly, though the available listing details do not establish setup requirements. | Requires wiring and securing strips. The documented single-color arrangement does not require a controller or code. Adafruit build guide |
| Power details | The Joyfy search result says the battery box uses two AA batteries, not included. Treat this as a retailer-result claim and confirm it on the current product page. Retail listing | The Adafruit parts list includes an 8 x AA battery holder with an on/off switch, plus a DC power adapter and wiring. Follow the guide’s power and connector specifications rather than assuming a generic pack will work. Adafruit build guide |
| Fit and repair | Check the current size chart, product photos, return terms, and whether components can be replaced. | Straps can be adjusted to the wearer and clothing, and individual wiring connections can be inspected during assembly. |
| Price, stock, brightness, runtime, durability, safety certification | Not established by the available listing details; check current seller information for price, stock, and returns. No standardized comparative results are available for performance or certification. | Not established by the build guide. What the documented DIY build requires
Light strips and mounting parts
The Adafruit project uses five one-meter flexible silicone neon-like LED strips, close-fitting dark clothing, hook-and-loop strap material, zip ties, and a bike helmet. Lay out the strips on the clothing before fastening them so you can shape the head, body, arms, and legs to the wearer. The guide says full strips suit an average-sized adult; strips can be bent or trimmed for smaller wearers. Adafruit build guide

The listed electrical supplies include an 8 x AA battery holder with an on/off switch, a DC power adapter, a JST cable, stranded wire, heat-shrink tubing, and batteries. Confirm that the strip, adapter, holder, and connectors are compatible before connecting them; these parts are not interchangeable by default. The Adafruit tutorial describes a single-color arrangement, not a universal wiring recipe for every LED strip. Adafruit build guide

- Battery Powered - requires (2) AA batteries for use (not included)

How to assemble the DIY harness
- Fit the outline first. Put the intended dark clothing on a flat surface or have the wearer stand in it. Lay out all five strips in the intended stick-figure shape and adjust their position before cutting straps or attaching anything. Allow room for an outer jacket if one will be worn. Adafruit build guide
- Make an adjustable harness. Use hook-and-loop straps and zip ties to hold the strips against the clothes. Secure each segment so it does not dangle; retain enough adjustability to put on and take off the harness comfortably. Adafruit build guide
- Wire the strips as specified. In the guide’s configuration, join the strips’ red power wires and join their black ground wires, then run an extension wire to the battery pack. Follow the tutorial for the specific strip and power setup you are using rather than extrapolating this wiring to a different product. Adafruit build guide
- Make the head segment detachable. The guide suggests using a two-pin JST connector for the head strip, allowing it to be disconnected while putting on the harness. Keep connectors and the battery pack accessible. Adafruit build guide
- Test before insulating. Connect the power source and check that every strip illuminates. Once the connections work, insulate the joints with heat-shrink tubing as described in the guide. Adafruit build guide
Single-color LEDs, RGB strips, and alternatives
Make describes single-color strips as the simpler build and RGB strips as offering more lighting options. It also identifies EL wire and glow sticks as other approaches. These are descriptive alternatives, not measured head-to-head results: the available sources do not establish comparative brightness, runtime, durability, total cost, or safety certification.
