At your consultation, ask:
- What design and area does the quote cover?
- Does it include design time and all planned appointments?
- Are touch-ups included or charged separately?
- What could change the estimate?
- If discussing removal or scar camouflage, what would that provider quote separately?
Can you tattoo over a scar?
Decorative tattooing has been described in medical literature as a patient-initiated approach to scar camouflage, but this does not establish that it works equally well for every scar or removes texture. A dermatologist can assess the scar and discuss its type and individual treatment options.

Tattoos can make early signs of skin cancer harder to see. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends dermatologist examination and keeping moles, freckles, and spots that need monitoring clear of ink. Ask a dermatologist about any skin change that concerns you.
