The SHW options chain lists call and put contracts for The Sherwin-Williams Company by expiration date and strike price. Read it as a time-stamped menu of contract quotes and activity—not as a forecast: compare the expiration, strike, bid and ask, volume, implied volatility and open interest, and check when the data was captured.

What the SHW options chain represents

SHW is the New York Stock Exchange ticker for The Sherwin-Williams Company, a manufacturer and distributor of paints, coatings and related products. Its business identity tells you which stock underlies the options; it does not, by itself, indicate what an option is worth or where the share price will go. Sherwin-Williams describes its company and brands, and its investor information identifies SHW as its NYSE symbol.

An options chain organizes listed contracts by expiration and strike, with calls and puts shown separately. A call gives its holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy shares at the strike under the contract terms; a put gives its holder the right, but not the obligation, to sell them. The seller may have an obligation if assigned. Each listed contract has its own quote and trading activity, and its terms and risks differ from owning the shares.

Washable and reusable for multiple projects.

How to read the main chain fields

The retrieved Cboe SHW chain display includes last price, net change, bid, ask, volume, implied volatility, delta, gamma and open interest. These fields describe different aspects of a contract; none is a standalone directional signal.

Field What it tells you How to use it
Expiration The contract’s expiration date. Compare the dates and time remaining. A contract with more time remaining is not directly comparable to one expiring sooner.
Strike The price at which the contract permits a holder to buy shares (call) or sell shares (put), subject to the contract terms. Compare the strike with the underlying share price to understand moneyness: whether the option is in, at or out of the money.
Last price The price of the most recent reported trade. Check its timestamp and compare it with the current bid and ask. A last trade may be stale or may not reflect the price currently available.
Net change The displayed change in the option’s price over the source’s comparison period. Read it with the quote timestamp and the source’s convention; it does not predict the next move.
Bid and ask The displayed prices at which buyers are bidding and sellers are asking. Look at both sides and the spread between them. A wider spread can make execution less straightforward; the displayed quotes are not a guarantee of a fill.
Volume Contracts traded during the period reported by the data provider, commonly the current session. Use the provider’s definition and date. Volume is trading activity, not the number of contracts still open.
Open interest Outstanding contracts that have not been closed or otherwise removed from the count. It is distinct from daily volume. A high count does not establish a likely share-price direction or guarantee liquidity.
Implied volatility (IV) A volatility estimate implied by the option’s market price and pricing assumptions. Compare contracts with similar terms and note that IV can change. It is not a forecast of direction.
Delta and gamma Option-risk measures: delta describes estimated price sensitivity to a change in the underlying; gamma describes how delta changes as the underlying moves. Interpret them as model-based sensitivities, not promised outcomes. Their values can change with price, time and volatility.

Compare a contract in a useful order

  1. Choose the expiration. Check how much time remains and make sure you are comparing contracts with the time horizon relevant to your purpose.
  2. Locate the strike against the share price. Moneyness depends on the relationship between the strike and the underlying price at the time of the quote. Confirm that the share quote and option quotes are contemporaneous.
  3. Inspect the bid-ask spread. Compare both prices rather than relying on last price alone; the spread is a practical part of assessing a quote.
  4. Review volume and open interest separately. They measure different things—recent trading and outstanding contracts—and neither one forecasts price direction.
  5. Consider IV and the risk measures. IV, delta and gamma help describe option pricing and sensitivity, but do not tell you whether a trade will be profitable.
  6. Account for your objective and assignment risk. The same contract may have different implications depending on the strategy and whether an option seller can meet the obligation if assigned. Understand the contract and risks before acting.

Why the SHW examples are dated snapshots

Options quotes and activity change over time. Cboe’s retrieved SHW page is explicitly a delayed-quote display timestamped September 10, 2026, at 15:28:30 Eastern; its underlying quote was near $317 at that time. That is an example of the chain layout, not the current SHW price. See Cboe’s delayed SHW quote table.

Separately, OI Charts dates its SHW open-interest snapshot September 24, 2026. It reports 1,895 calls and 3,130 puts open for the October 16 expiration, and 19.8 thousand total contracts across the expirations displayed. The same source reports an underlying share close of $320.78 on October 1, 2026. These figures come from different dates and a different source than Cboe’s September 10 display; they should not be combined as if they described one simultaneous market. They are historical examples, not live October 4 quotes. View the dated SHW open-interest page.

For current bids, asks, IV, volume or open interest, use a time-stamped SHW chain and identify the specific expiration and strike. A general expiration calendar can provide context but cannot confirm that a particular SHW series is currently listed. Cboe’s 2026 calendar says dates are subject to change; confirm available dates on the ticker-specific chain. Cboe’s 2026 expiration calendar.
