In the 2023 Year of the Rabbit, the third day of Lunar New Year fell on Tuesday, January 24. Beijing-focused cultural sources describe it as a night to go to bed early, tied to the folk belief that rats marry then; Macao, meanwhile, scheduled a public Rabbit-year parade that day. These are local descriptions, not a universal rule for Lunar New Year.

What was associated with the third day?
A Beijing folk belief about rats
A Beijing-focused cultural calendar describes the third day as a time to go to bed early. It links the custom to folklore that rats marry that night and could damage crops if disturbed. A separate Beijing tourism overview also reports the rat-marriage belief. These accounts document a local folk tradition; they do not establish that all families in Beijing, or Lunar New Year communities elsewhere, observe it.
