For general-purpose batch processing in GIMP 3, Batcher is the strongest supported BIMP-style option in the reviewed sources. It handles image conversion, image and layer workflows, common editing actions, and conditional processing. “Closest replacement” is an editorial judgment, not the result of an independent feature or performance test.
The Batcher project lists version 1.2.10, dated July 26, 2026, and describes the plug-in as BSD 3-Clause licensed. Check its current project page for download and installation instructions; setup depends on your GIMP installation and operating system.
Does BIMP work with GIMP 3?
The original BIMP repository describes a plug-in for applying a set of GIMP manipulations to groups of images, and documents a Windows installer and source compilation. A separate community project, gimp-plugin-bimp3, describes a BIMP 2.6 port for GIMP 3.x, but its maintainer says it has not been tested end-to-end in a live GIMP 3 environment and should be treated as work in progress.
That makes Batcher the better-supported general-purpose recommendation in the reviewed evidence—not proof that BIMP can never work in a particular GIMP 3 setup, nor a guarantee that Batcher reproduces every BIMP workflow.

- Check the instructions for your GIMP installation and operating system before copying or configuring plug-in files.

- Choose Batcher as the starting point if you want general-purpose batch processing in GIMP 3, especially for image and layer workflows.
- Consider Batch Folder if its described grading recipes, dry-run, or scripting features are the specific reason you are looking for a tool.

Yes. The Batcher project lists exporting layers as separate images and batch-editing layers among its uses. It also describes processing images and layers that match criteria such as filename suffix or layer visibility.

Can I batch-process GIMP images from the command line?
GIMP’s official BatchProcedure API supports batch procedures invoked through command-line batch options. It is a script-oriented route, not a like-for-like graphical replacement for BIMP.
