The Two-Block Citrus Quilt is a 60½-inch-square throw made from 30 pieced blocks and color-matched setting rectangles. Its diagonal effect comes from arranging orange, yellow and green fabrics in ten vertical rows. The downloadable pattern from AllPeopleQuilt includes the assembly diagram, which is needed to place the blocks and rectangles in the intended layout.
Finished size and block dimensions
The finished quilt measures 60½ inches square. Each block finishes at 6 by 10 inches; its cut and sewn-but-unfinished size is 6½ by 10½ inches, including the ¼-inch seam allowances. The setting rectangles are also cut to 6½ by 10½ inches, so they finish at the same size as the blocks.
Materials
The pattern quantities assume 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. It lists assorted prints in pieces; that notation is preserved below rather than treated as one continuous length of fabric.
Recommended Free Tools
| Fabric or material | Pattern quantity |
|---|---|
| Assorted orange prints | 3⅝-yard pieces |
| Red print | ⅓ yard |
| Gray print | ⅓ yard |
| Assorted yellow prints | 3⅝-yard pieces |
| Assorted green prints | 5⅜-yard pieces |
| Solid yellow for binding | ⅝ yard |
| Backing | 3⅞ yards |
| Batting | 69-inch square |
Use quilting cotton in the specified color families, plus backing and batting. A rotary cutter and quilting ruler can make repeated cutting easier, but the pattern does not require a particular tool or brand.

Cutting list
Cut the orange, yellow and green prints separately. For each color family, the pattern uses ten setting rectangles and forty strips arranged in ten matching sets of four.
- Orange prints: ten 6½-by-10½-inch setting rectangles and forty 2½-by-6½-inch strips, grouped into ten sets of four.
- Red print: fifteen 2½-by-6½-inch center strips.
- Yellow prints: ten 6½-by-10½-inch setting rectangles and forty 2½-by-6½-inch strips, grouped into ten sets of four.
- Green prints: ten 6½-by-10½-inch setting rectangles and forty 2½-by-6½-inch strips, grouped into ten matching sets of four.
- Gray print: fifteen 2½-by-6½-inch center strips.
- Solid yellow: seven 2½-by-42-inch binding strips.
Unless the pattern indicates otherwise, sew with right sides together. Its measurements include ¼-inch seam allowances.

Make the A and B blocks
A blocks: red centers
- Choose a red center strip and its matching set of four strips in orange, yellow or green.
- Sew two matching strips along the long edges of the red center strip. Press the seams toward the center.
- Sew the remaining two matching strips to the other long edges. Press these seams away from the center.
- Make five orange A blocks, four yellow A blocks and six green A blocks.
B blocks: gray centers
- Repeat the same strip-piecing method, using a gray center strip and a matching set of four colored strips.
- Make five orange B blocks, six yellow B blocks and four green B blocks.
Each completed block uses a center strip flanked by four strips of one color family. Keep the A blocks’ red centers distinct from the B blocks’ gray centers as you sort the pieces for assembly.

Arrange and assemble the quilt top
Lay out the 30 blocks with the orange, yellow and green setting rectangles in ten vertical rows, following the pattern’s assembly diagram. The diagram gives the exact spatial placement; the written instructions establish the row count and block totals but do not specify every position in prose.
Rank #3
- Arrange the A blocks, B blocks and setting rectangles in the ten rows shown in the pattern assembly diagram.
- Sew the pieces together row by row. Press the seams toward the setting rectangles.
- Join the completed rows, pressing the joining seams in one direction.
You can select different prints within the orange, yellow and green families or choose a different palette as an aesthetic variation. Keep the color-family placement and red-versus-gray center distinction if you want to retain the pattern’s two-block visual structure; fabric substitutions are not identified as tested variations.
