“No device connected” means Wacom Center cannot establish a usable connection with the tablet and its driver. It does not, by itself, prove the tablet is defective. Start with power, cable, port and Bluetooth checks; then install the driver for the exact model. On macOS, approve Wacom’s security permissions. Only consider hardware failure after the tablet fails direct-connection and, ideally, second-computer tests.
First identify the setup
Write down the product name and model number (for example, CTL-4100, CTC4110WL, PTK-670 or DTH-135), your Windows or macOS version, and whether the connection is USB, Bluetooth or a wireless receiver. Also note whether you have a screenless tablet or a pen display, and whether the problem began after an operating-system or driver update. “Wacom One,” “Intuos” and “Cintiq” each include several generations with different driver support.

What the message is telling you

Wacom separates “No device connected” from driver-not-running, driver-not-responding and device-not-responding errors in its error guidance. The message therefore has no single universal cause.
Run the five-minute physical connection test
- Turn the tablet on and check its power indicator, if the model has one.
- Disconnect and reconnect both ends of the cable.
- Try a different compatible data cable; some USB cables supply power only.
- Connect directly to another USB port on the computer. For diagnosis, remove hubs, monitor and keyboard ports, docking stations, extension cables and third-party adapters.
- If the tablet uses a detachable 3-in-1 cable, attach every required connector. On a Cintiq or other display, check the video cable and USB/data cable separately.
- Listen for the operating system’s USB connection sound or check its hardware list.
- If practical, test the tablet on another computer.
Wacom specifically recommends a direct computer connection because hubs, docks and peripheral ports can behave inconsistently: Wacom’s troubleshooting and reinstall guidance.

Windows: install the correct driver and restart
Install or update
- Open Wacom’s official driver selector.
- Select the exact product or product family and download the Windows driver listed for it.
- Run the downloaded
WacomTablet*.exeinstaller and accept the agreement. - Restart Windows, even if the installer does not insist on it.
- After signing in, open Wacom Center and look under Devices.
Those restart and detection steps follow Wacom’s current Windows installation instructions.
If the driver is installed but communication still fails
- Restart Windows, then close and reopen Wacom Center.
- Disconnect other drawing tablets and temporarily remove conflicting Huion, XP-Pen, older Bamboo/Wacom or virtualization tablet software.
- Check that Wacom-related processes or services are running after the restart.
- Use a normal user session rather than troubleshooting only from an unusual elevated or remote session.
Wacom describes “The tablet driver is not responding” as an installed driver that cannot communicate with the operating system; its escalation is restart, then uninstall and reinstall: Wacom’s explanation.

Clean Windows reinstall
Back up Wacom preferences first if you need ExpressKey and application mappings. Save work, obtain administrator credentials and disconnect the tablet, including a wireless dongle or Bluetooth connection. Follow Wacom’s current Windows uninstall/reinstall procedure, restart, install the model-specific driver again and test before restoring old settings. Legacy products may need a Wacom-listed last-compatible driver rather than the newest release.
macOS: permissions are part of the installation
On a Mac, an installer finishing does not necessarily mean the driver can operate. In System Settings, check:

- Any Wacom system-extension, hub or related approval prompt shown during setup
If the pen fails only inside an application such as Photoshop, check that application’s permission and Wacom application mapping as well. Wacom says permissions should be granted within the first 30 minutes after driver installation. If that window was missed, uninstall and reinstall, then approve each prompt during setup. - Quit and reopen the affected settings or Wacom application.
- Restart the Mac and sign back in.
- Reconnect the tablet directly to the Mac.
- Open Wacom Center and test it before restoring custom preferences.
For macOS 26, Wacom identifies driver version 6.4.11 or newer as the threshold for supported devices, but the exact model must appear on the compatible-products list. Wacom also notes that some macOS 26 System Settings windows may not respond to pen input; use a mouse or trackpad there. That usability issue is different from total device detection.

Clean macOS reinstall
- Disconnect the tablet.
- Open Applications → Wacom Tablet, then launch Wacom Tablet Utility.
- Choose the uninstall option and restart the Mac.
- Remove remaining components only as directed in Wacom’s current Mac uninstall/reinstall guide.
- Install the current driver from Wacom, approve every requested permission and restart again.
- Reconnect directly and test with default settings before importing a saved preference file.
Uninstalling can remove Wacom preferences, and corrupted preferences can recreate the fault after a successful reinstall. Do not disable the macOS firewall or security software as a routine step.

- Turn the Wacom tablet off.
- Turn the computer’s Bluetooth off and back on.
- Remove the Wacom from saved Bluetooth devices.
- Restart the computer.
- Turn the tablet on and enter its model-specific pairing mode.
- Pair it again through the operating system, then open Wacom Center.
Bluetooth pairing alone does not prove that the Wacom driver is communicating. If your model includes a wireless receiver, plug that receiver into a direct USB port and remove competing wireless adapters while testing. Compare Bluetooth with a direct USB connection: reliable USB but intermittent Bluetooth points toward pairing, interference, power management or the wireless subsystem.

Pen-display checks
A Cintiq or similar display can show an HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C image while its pen-data connection is absent. Confirm power, video and USB/data connections independently, and connect the data cable directly to the computer. A picture on the screen is not evidence that Wacom Center can see the tablet interface.
Check compatibility before changing drivers
Match the model number and operating-system version in Wacom’s driver selector. After an OS update, an old driver may no longer load, permissions may have been reset, or a background service may be blocked. Older Wacom products can require a last-compatible driver and may not work with the newest package. Never assume that a driver supporting one Intuos, Wacom One or Cintiq generation supports another.
When hardware failure becomes likely
Escalate to Wacom support or warranty service when the tablet has power but still fails after multiple known-good data cables and direct ports, hubs and docks have been eliminated, the correct driver has been cleanly reinstalled, Bluetooth has been re-paired where relevant, and the device fails on a second computer or never registers any connection. A damaged connector, unusual heat, intermittent disconnects or no indicator response strengthens that conclusion. A Wacom community case shows this boundary in practice, but it is an anecdotal support example, not a failure-rate statistic: community case.
Do not buy a replacement before these isolation tests. If another cable fixes the tablet, replace only the model-compatible cable; if the tablet works over USB but not Bluetooth, investigate the wireless path instead of repeatedly reinstalling drivers.
