An AI image of a possible Stoke City badge is speculation, not a club design or leak. Stoke has since approved a new crest for the 2026–27 season: supporters voted 68% to 32% in favour of changing the old badge. The selected design revisits the club’s 1977–1992 crest, with Stoke and Staffordshire references at its centre.
The original AI image cannot be verified from the available material, so its shape, lettering and symbols cannot responsibly be described. That distinction matters: the confirmed crest is the result of a club process and supporter vote, not evidence that AI predicted Stoke’s choice.
What the AI badge concept shows
Without the original image and information about when and how it was made, there is no reliable way to say whether it showed a shield, stripes, a bottle kiln, the Staffordshire knot or the year 1863. Those details should be described only if they are actually visible in the image. Nor should an image be called a leaked proposal unless Stoke City has confirmed that status.

What Stoke City approved instead
Stoke’s confirmed crest is a modernised interpretation of the badge used from 1977 to 1992. It uses a shield and gives renewed prominence to the club’s local identity and “The Potters” nickname. The design has been described as wider and squatter than the outgoing crest, with “STOKE CITY” replacing the older initials-led presentation. The confirmed design brings together the Staffordshire knot, a bottle kiln, red-and-white stripes and the club’s foundation year. These are not assumptions about what an AI might have drawn; they are reported features of the selected crest. Stoke Nub News’ account of the badge describes these references.

Why the symbols matter
Stoke’s identity is tied to both its football history and its place in Staffordshire. Red-and-white stripes connect the crest to the club’s familiar colours; the bottle kiln points to Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery heritage and the “Potters” nickname. The Staffordshire knot makes the regional connection explicit, while 1863 marks the club’s foundation year. These references also help explain why a generic red-and-white football shield would not, by itself, say much that is distinctively Stoke.

The challenge for any badge is to make those references work at different sizes and in different materials. A knot or kiln can carry local meaning, but fine detail may become hard to distinguish on a small shirt badge or digital icon. A simpler mark is easier to reproduce, yet risks losing some of the history supporters wanted to see represented.

How the club reached its decision
The new crest followed supporter consultation, including meetings and surveys, before a vote on whether to keep the existing badge or change it. The club’s design-development document records three initial directions presented to supporters in June 2025: a design inspired by the 1977–1992 badge, an evolution of the then-current crest and an alternative concept. The club’s design-process document outlines those directions; it does not make an unrelated AI image an official option.
The result was a majority for change, not unanimity. BBC Sport reported both support for the stronger city and pottery references and criticism of particular design details. A 68–32 vote records the choice of voting supporters; it should not be turned into a claim that every supporter welcomed the final execution.

When the new crest appears
The crest is intended for Stoke’s 2026–27 kit. Its adoption across the wider identity—including digital channels, merchandise and stadium assets—is being phased in over several seasons rather than happening everywhere at once. By June 2026, old badges had begun to be removed from parts of the bet365 Stadium, according to Yahoo Sports’ report on the rollout. The new crest’s kit debut is also covered by Footy Headlines.
Keep the 2024 pottery icon separate
Stoke also drew attention in 2024 for a simpler pottery-inspired mark. At the time, it was reported as likely to be a special kit icon rather than a permanent crest replacement. That episode should not be confused with the later, formally approved redesign. Footy Headlines’ 2024 report provides that earlier context.

How to judge an AI Stoke badge
- Authenticity: Does it use Stoke-specific history, rather than generic football imagery?
- Local identity: Are Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire recognisable in the symbols?
- Legibility: Can key details still be read at shirt-badge and social-icon sizes?
- Distinctiveness: Could the mark be mistaken for another red-and-white club?
- Heritage and usability: Does it balance historical references with clear typography and practical reproduction?
Against those criteria, the confirmed crest has a documented historical basis and named local references. The unknown AI image cannot be fairly scored without seeing it. It may be an interesting visual interpretation, but resemblance to the final badge would not, on its own, prove prediction or influence.
