What a wine glass coaster does
A coaster sits beneath a glass to help shield the surface from moisture. Some are designed to catch drips and condensation: Georg Jensen describes that purpose for its Bernadotte wine coaster, which has a mirror-polished stainless-steel top and a silicone base (Georg Jensen Bernadotte Wine Coaster).

People also look for “coasters that don’t drip” and worry about staining or a wet coaster lifting with the glass. Those concerns appear in an anecdotal Reddit discussion, not a controlled product comparison, so they are useful considerations rather than proof that one construction performs better (Reddit discussion).

Choose a size that fits your setup
Product listings provide examples ranging from Georg Jensen’s 113 mm diameter to IKEA’s 3½ inches and the winery’s 4 inches. Measure or compare the coaster footprint with the glass base, then consider whether you want extra room around the glass to catch drips. A listing’s diameter alone does not establish how well a coaster will work with a particular glass.
Check care and intended use
- Follow product-specific care directions. Materials and finishes differ, so do not assume that cleaning advice for one coaster applies to another.
- Keep absorbency and staining in mind. Thirstystone says its porous sandstone absorbs condensation but can develop drink stains; it does not claim the coasters are stain-proof (manufacturer FAQ).
- For removable felt inserts, check the brand. Comfortena sells removable inserts for its own coaster range and says they can be hand-washed. Its instructions do not establish compatibility with other brands (Comfortena product page).
When a custom or branded coaster makes sense
A branded cork coaster can work as a wine-related gift or a practical accessory for an event or business. Francis Ford Coppola Winery describes its cork coaster for glasses or bottles, while WineBags.com lists imprinted cork coasters for bulk orders. For a custom order, confirm current availability, minimum quantities, and terms directly with the supplier; those details may change (WineBags.com coaster listings).
