The Xlaserlab E3 is a desktop UV laser engraver aimed at makers who need fine surface marks on glass, metal, acrylic and plastics, plus true internal engraving inside crystal or glass. The 10W model is listed at $5,299.99 by Xlaserlab. Its appeal is the claimed 355±5 nm “cold” UV processing and transparent-material capability; its main trade-offs are the high purchase price, proprietary software requirements for several advanced functions, and the need to verify safety documentation and accessory availability before buying.

What the Xlaserlab E3 is

Xlaserlab sells the E3 as an enclosed desktop UV engraver in 5W and 10W versions. The detailed specifications cited here apply to the 10W model. It uses a 355±5 nm ultraviolet source, accepts 100–240V input, and measures 450 × 365 × 252 mm.

Specification 10W E3 listing
Laser 355±5 nm UV source
Plane-marking area 150 × 150 mm
Internal-marking area 50 × 50 mm
Maximum speed 10,000 mm/s (manufacturer specification)
Connectivity Wi‑Fi and USB
Input 100–240V
Dimensions 450 × 365 × 252 mm
Listed price $5,299.99 for the 10W model; the page displays a former price of $6,099.99

The 5W version is offered, but the supplied specifications do not establish its marking area, speed, price or other performance figures. Do not assume the 5W model has the same capabilities as the 10W machine.

What materials can the E3 engrave?

Glass, crystal and transparent acrylic

The E3’s most distinctive advertised capability is working inside transparent materials. Xlaserlab says the machine can create three-dimensional marks inside crystal or glass, within a stated 50 × 50 mm internal-marking area. It also lists transparent acrylic work. This is different from decorating only the outside surface: the design is formed below the material’s surface, so a suitable blank, optical setup and software workflow are essential.

Internal engraving is a manufacturer-stated feature, not an independently verified performance result. Confirm the acceptable crystal dimensions, file preparation method and fixture requirements with Xlaserlab before ordering production blanks.

Metals and colored marks

The product page lists surface marking on metal and specifically mentions stainless steel and titanium, including more than 200 metal colors as a manufacturer claim. UV marking can be useful for logos, serial numbers, small graphics and fine identification marks where a broad heat-affected zone is undesirable. The exact color result depends on alloy, finish, focus and process settings; the “more than 200” figure should not be treated as a guaranteed result on every metal.

Plastics, coatings and anodized finishes

Xlaserlab lists plastics, coated materials and anodized materials among supported applications. UV processing is often selected for small, high-contrast marks on sensitive surfaces, but plastics vary widely in additives and decomposition products. Test each formulation and provide ventilation before committing to a batch.

Relief engraving

The same product information limits the E3’s current relief-engraving support to glass, wood and stone. That limitation applies to the relief function and should not be read as a complete list of every material the machine can surface-mark.

How large and how fast can it work?

For the 10W listing, the plane-marking field is 150 × 150 mm and the internal-marking field is 50 × 50 mm. A maximum speed of 10,000 mm/s is stated by the manufacturer. Maximum travel speed is not the same as production throughput: fill density, number of passes, pulse settings, focus, artwork complexity and material response determine actual job time.

The 150 mm square field suits plaques, small panels, tags, ornaments and compact product parts. Larger work may require tiling, repositioning or a rotary/conveyor accessory, each of which adds setup and alignment considerations.

Software: LightBurn or Edone?

Xlaserlab provides Edone downloads for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS/iPadOS. The product page says LightBurn supports selected basic marking functions. Advanced E3 features—including autofocus, 3D crystal inner engraving and curved-surface processing with dynamic Z-axis compensation—require Edone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you already use LightBurn

  • Verify that your planned jobs fit the supported basic-marking subset.
  • Expect to use Edone for internal crystal work, autofocus and curved-surface compensation.
  • Confirm file-import, device-connection and licensing details for your operating system before purchase.

This split matters to makers who have established LightBurn libraries or production workflows. The E3 is not a drop-in LightBurn replacement for every advertised function.

Is a $5,299.99 E3 worth it?

It can be justified when internal crystal engraving, UV-sensitive materials or very fine marks are central to your work. The price is harder to justify if you mainly need occasional wood or coated-metal engraving that a less specialized machine can handle.

The E3 makes the strongest case when you need

  • Internal 3D engraving in crystal or glass.
  • Transparent acrylic work.
  • Fine marks on stainless steel, titanium, plastics or coatings.
  • An enclosed desktop format with Wi‑Fi and USB connectivity.
  • Access to Edone features such as autofocus and dynamic Z-axis compensation.

Check alternatives when you mainly need

  • A much larger working area.
  • A workflow entirely inside LightBurn.
  • Low-cost entry-level engraving.
  • Independently published comparative testing or certification documentation.

Xlaserlab’s comparison material positions the E3 against the xTool F1 Ultra and Glowforge Aura, including on transparent-material and internal-crystal work. Those comparisons describe the manufacturer’s positioning; independent test results were not established for this article.

UV laser safety in a home maker space

Xlaserlab advertises the E3 as fully enclosed, Class 1, with automatic-stop and cooling features. No independent certification report was provided with the available product information, so treat the classification as a manufacturer statement and request the applicable compliance documentation for your region.

Use controlled operation

  • Keep the enclosure closed and confirm that interlocks and automatic-stop functions work before production.
  • Provide suitable ventilation and review the safety data for every plastic, coating, adhesive and other material you process.
  • Keep combustible items and unapproved reflective objects away from the work area.
  • Follow local laser-safety, electrical and fume-control requirements; home use does not remove those obligations.
  • Supervise jobs rather than leaving the machine running unattended.

Choose eyewear by wavelength

Xlaserlab’s eyewear collection describes wavelength and optical-density selection, but the examples shown reference 1064 nm fiber-laser use. Do not use those examples for a 355 nm E3 unless the manufacturer confirms a 355 nm rating and suitable optical density. Enclosure classification and personal protective equipment are separate controls; one does not replace the other.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Choose 5W or 10W only after confirming the exact specifications and price of the variant you want.
  2. Measure your largest planned part against the 150 × 150 mm plane field and 50 × 50 mm internal field listed for the 10W model.
  3. Ask Xlaserlab to confirm that your crystal, glass, acrylic, metal or plastic is supported and what test sample is recommended.
  4. Decide whether your workflow can use Edone for advanced functions or whether LightBurn-only operation is essential.
  5. Add the inner-engraving fixture, rotary attachment, feeder or purifier only if your work requires them, and recheck current prices.
  6. Request current electrical, laser-safety and conformity documentation for your location.
  7. Plan ventilation, operator training, material testing and emergency procedures before installation.

Bottom line

The Xlaserlab E3 is a specialized 355 nm UV platform, not a general-purpose bargain engraver. Its strongest differentiator is the combination of fine “cold” marking and advertised internal engraving in crystal or glass. At the listed $5,299.99 for 10W, it makes sense for makers who will use those capabilities regularly and can accept Edone for advanced workflows. Buyers focused on simpler surface engraving should compare total cost, software restrictions, documentation and required accessories before committing.
