A French manicure traditionally pairs a sheer pink, nude, beige, or translucent base with a crisp white tip. Modern French designs keep the idea of a contrasting tip, edge, reverse crescent, or negative-space detail while expanding the palette, finish, and decoration. Choose a look by nail length, shape, occasion, difficulty, and maintenance, then share the suggested wording with your nail technician.
| If you want… | Start with… |
|---|---|
| A timeless everyday manicure | Classic pink-and-white French |
| A design for very short nails | Micro-French, invisible French, or short squoval classic |
| A bridal or formal look | Milky, pearl, ombré, or classic French |
| Color without a maximalist design | Monochrome, pastel rainbow, or tonal tips |
| A salon-art finish | Chrome, velvet cat-eye, glass, or 3D French |
| An approachable DIY project | Classic, sticker-assisted micro-French, polka dots, or rainbow tips |
| Less noticeable grow-out | Ombré, invisible, milky, or tonal French |
What is a French manicure?
A classic French manicure uses a natural-looking sheer base, a curved white smile line following the free edge, and usually a glossy top coat. The base may be pink, nude, beige, or translucent, with opacity adjusted to suit the wearer. Modern versions can use colored, metallic, patterned, outlined, textured, or negative-space tips.

French manicure terminology
- French manicure: Usually the full service—base color, French edge, and finish—as well as the design itself.
- French tip: The contrasting color or pattern at the free edge. It can also be added to extensions or press-ons.
- Micro-French: An exceptionally thin tip, often white or another contrasting color. It can work on short nails with little free edge.
- Deep French: A thicker tip extending farther down the nail bed, often more visually balanced on medium-to-long nails or extensions.
- Reverse French: A contrasting crescent near the cuticle rather than the free edge.
- Ombré or baby-boomer French: A gradual fade from base to tip without a hard smile line.
ORLY credits founder Jeff Pink with developing the Natural Nail Look for Hollywood actresses in 1970s California and says the name followed its appearance on Paris runways in 1978. Other accounts give different dates, so the safest summary is that the manicure is widely credited to Pink and ORLY in the 1970s; the precise date and naming story vary. See ORLY’s history.

28 French manicure ideas
Length, shape, difficulty, and maintenance are practical recommendations, not universal rules. A nail artist can adapt most looks; free edge, surface area, and decoration affect how clearly a design reads. Classic and short-nail French designs
1. Classic pink-and-white French
Picture brief: Show a sheer blush base and crisp white crescent tips on short squoval or medium almond nails. Include a full-hand view and smile-line close-up.

It works on natural nails, gel, acrylic, dip systems, and press-ons when products are compatible.
- Best fit: Short squoval, oval, or medium almond.
- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate; stark white tips can make growth more noticeable.
Ask: “Please do a sheer blush base with a crisp, medium-width white French smile line, short squoval shape, and glossy top coat.”
2. Milky French
Picture brief: Photograph a cloudy, translucent milky base with soft-white tips on short oval nails in diffused light.
A milky French softens the contrast of the classic look and suits bridal, office, or everyday wear.

- Difficulty: Beginner with polish; intermediate for an even milky base.
- Maintenance: Low to moderate; soft contrast disguises small changes.
Ask: “I would like a translucent milky base with a soft-white French tip, not a stark opaque white, on a short oval shape.”
3. Micro-French
Picture brief: Show extremely thin lines following the free edge of very short natural squoval nails.
A micro-French reduces the smile line to a fine edge. White is traditional, but red, black, cobalt, or another shade makes it graphic. It is often practical for short nails; Allure and Woman&Home highlight micro tips in short-nail coverage.
- Best fit: Very short squoval, round, oval, or short almond.
- Difficulty: Beginner with stickers; intermediate freehand.
- Maintenance: Moderate, with less visible grow-out than a thick tip.
Ask: “Please keep the French line ultra-thin and close to the edge—more micro-French than a conventional white tip.”

4. Invisible French
Picture brief: Close up glossy short oval nails with a barely visible tonal tip, such as a translucent beige base and slightly lighter edge.
The tip is only slightly lighter, darker, or more reflective than the base, giving the structure of a French manicure without a graphic boundary.
- Best fit: Short natural nails in any softly rounded shape.
- Difficulty: Beginner.
- Maintenance: Low; the tonal transition makes grow-out less conspicuous.
Ask: “Can you create a very subtle tonal French where the tip is visible only in close light, with a glossy natural finish?”
5. Deep French
Picture brief: Show a pronounced white tip extending farther down the nail bed on medium-to-long almond or coffin nails.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
A deep French uses more color than the traditional edge for a bold silhouette. It generally needs more surface area to avoid overwhelming a very short nail. See Cosmopolitan’s design guide.
- Best fit: Medium-to-long almond, coffin, square, or extensions.
- Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced.
- Maintenance: Higher visible grow-out because the boundary is pronounced.
Ask: “I want a deep French with the white tip extending farther down the nail bed, balanced to my medium almond shape.”
6. C-French
Picture brief: Photograph medium almond nails with a deliberate C-shaped arc, deeper at the center and tapering toward both sidewalls.
The C-French exaggerates the smile-line curve. The arc itself—not simply a wider standard tip—is the main feature.
- Best fit: Medium almond or oval; adaptable to coffin or square.
- Difficulty: Advanced freehand or salon-level.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high because asymmetry is easy to see.
Ask: “Please make the tip a pronounced, symmetrical C-shaped arc rather than a shallow conventional smile line.”
7. Baby-boomer ombré French
Picture brief: Show a seamless sheer-pink-to-white fade on medium oval or almond nails, with no crisp smile line.
Baby-boomer French blends the base into the tip. The blurred transition suits weddings and formal events and tends to be forgiving as the nail grows.

8. Silver chrome French
Picture brief: Show reflective silver chrome concentrated on the tips over a nude or milky base, with angled light and a macro detail.
Silver chrome replaces opaque white with a mirror-like metallic edge. The effect depends on the base, chrome powder, gel system, and application technique, so bring a reference photo.
- Best fit: Medium almond, oval, coffin, or short nails with a thin chrome line.
- Difficulty: Advanced or salon-level.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high if the chrome boundary is sharp.
Ask: “I would like a nude base with reflective silver chrome only on the French tips, kept thin and clean.”
9. Gold chrome French
Picture brief: Photograph warm gold chrome tips over a beige or translucent peach base.

- Maintenance: Moderate.
Ask: “Please use a translucent warm beige base and reflective gold chrome on the tips, without covering the whole nail.”
10. Mother-of-pearl French

This restrained finish adds reflection without chrome’s strong mirror effect, making it an option for bridal nails or formal occasions.

11. Glass French
Picture brief: Show transparent clear tips over a colored or milky base, preferably on clear press-ons or extensions; include a side angle.
Glass French describes a transparent tip effect, not actual glass. Clear press-ons or transparent extensions are often the most direct way to create the look.
- Best fit: Medium-to-long extensions, almond, coffin, or tapered square.
- Difficulty: Advanced or salon-level.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high because extensions and clear edges need careful upkeep.

12. Velvet cat-eye French
Picture brief: Use magnetic velvet polish only on the tips, with a consistent light-reflective band under angled light.
A velvet French concentrates the shifting effect of magnetic polish at the edge. Position the magnet according to product instructions before the polish cures or dries.
- Best fit: Medium almond, oval, coffin, or long squoval.
- Difficulty: Advanced.
- Maintenance: Moderate; durability depends on applying and removing the system correctly.
Ask: “Please use magnetic velvet polish on the French tips only, keeping the cat-eye reflection consistent from nail to nail.”

- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate; matte surfaces can show oils and scuffs more readily.
Ask: “Please make the base matte nude and the French tips glossy, with a clean boundary and no extra decoration.”
Colorful and graphic French designs
14. Striped French
Picture brief: Show two or more parallel lines following the tip, such as black and white or tonal neutrals.
Parallel lines across the tip create a graphic look; varying stripe width and contrast changes the effect.

Ask: “Please keep the French shape recognizable, then add two thin parallel stripes across each tip in [colors].”
15. Split-color French
Picture brief: Show every tip divided vertically or diagonally into two colors; include a straight-on macro view.
A split-color tip makes a conventional French feel custom without adding a full-nail pattern.
- Best fit: Medium almond, square, coffin, or long squoval.
- Difficulty: Intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high if the split line is sharply contrasting.
Ask: “Please divide each French tip diagonally into [color one] and [color two], keeping the base sheer and the split lines even.”
16. Monochrome burgundy French
Picture brief: Use two related burgundy shades on short oval or squoval nails in neutral light.
Monochrome French uses one color family rather than pink and white. The same approach works with navy, chocolate, olive, mauve, or charcoal.
- Best fit: Short oval, squoval, almond, or medium square.
- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate.
Ask: “Please use a monochrome burgundy palette: a sheer or translucent burgundy base with a deeper burgundy tip.”
17. Pastel rainbow French
Picture brief: Show a consistent sheer base with one pastel tip per nail, in a deliberate color sequence.
Recommended Free Tools
Pastel rainbow French keeps the design consistent while changing tip color from nail to nail. Muted, milky pastels make it more subdued.
- Best fit: Short-to-medium squoval, oval, almond, or round.
- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate.
Ask: “Please keep the base sheer and use one soft pastel French color per nail, with the same tip width throughout.”
18. Neon French
Picture brief: Show vivid neon tips over a nude base, with a full-hand view and close-up.
Neon tips deliver color while leaving most of the nail neutral. A single neon shade can be more wearable for everyday use than several colors.
- Best fit: Short-to-medium almond, square, coffin, or squoval.
- Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate; high contrast makes chips easy to notice.
Ask: “Please use a nude base with bright neon [shade] tips, keeping the French edge thin enough for my nail length.”
19. Reverse French
Picture brief: Show a contrasting crescent hugging the cuticle while the free edge remains neutral.
A reverse French moves the contrast from the free edge to the cuticle area. It is an alternative for very short free edges or for a less expected design.
- Best fit: Very short-to-medium oval, squoval, almond, or round.
- Difficulty: Intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high because growth appears beside the cuticle crescent.
Ask: “I want a reverse French: a clean [color] crescent following the cuticle, with the free edge left sheer.”
20. Reverse negative-space French
Picture brief: Show a colored reverse crescent near the cuticle with exposed negative space around part of the base.
The exposed nail is part of the design rather than a gap to hide, creating a lighter graphic effect.
- Best fit: Short-to-medium oval, almond, squoval, or coffin.
- Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high because the cuticle-side boundary is prominent.
Ask: “Please create a reverse negative-space French with a [color] cuticle crescent and a deliberate strip of exposed nail around it.”

22. Floral French
Picture brief: Show tiny flowers along the tips over a sheer pink base, with a close-up of painted or sticker details.
Flowers can sit along the edge or cascade toward the center. Stickers make a simple version accessible at home; hand-painted petals allow customization.
- Best fit: Short-to-medium oval, almond, squoval, or round.
- Difficulty: Beginner with decals; intermediate to advanced when hand-painted.
- Maintenance: Moderate; raised flowers need more care.
Ask: “Please add small [flower color] flowers along the French tips, with no large motifs on the center of the nail.”
23. Animal-print French
Picture brief: Keep leopard, tortoiseshell, zebra, or cow print inside the tip boundary over a neutral base.
Animal print can be easier to wear when confined to the tip. Leopard and tortoiseshell are warm options; zebra and cow print create stronger contrast.
- Best fit: Medium almond, coffin, square, or long squoval; tiny print can work on short nails.
- Difficulty: Intermediate.
- Maintenance: Moderate.
Ask: “Please keep the [leopard, tortoiseshell, zebra, or cow] pattern inside the French tip, with a clean neutral base.”

Picture brief: Show wavy or color-blocked edges rather than standard crescents, with a macro view of the curves.
Waves, asymmetrical arcs, or color blocks replace the smooth smile line. The edges should look intentionally irregular rather than accidentally uneven.
- Best fit: Medium almond, oval, coffin, or square.
- Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high because every edge is visible.
Ask: “Please create an abstract wavy French edge in [colors], with each nail coordinated but not perfectly identical.”
25. Outlined French
Picture brief: Leave the inside of the tip sheer or clear and paint only its outline; show the arc and side lines in close-up.
An outlined French paints the perimeter while leaving the interior clear, sheer, or the base color. A metallic line, tiny gems, or flowers can reinforce the outline.
- Best fit: Medium-to-long almond, coffin, square, or long oval.
- Difficulty: Advanced.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high because gaps in the thin outline are noticeable.
Ask: “Please outline the French tips in [metallic or color] but leave the inside of each tip sheer.”
26. 3D textured or sweater French
Picture brief: Show raised sweater, ribbed, tweed, or sculpted gel texture confined to the tips, with a side-angle macro.
Raised texture turns the tip into a tactile design element. It can catch on hair and clothing and requires controlled product application, so it is usually salon-level or advanced DIY.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

27. Coquette bow-and-lace French
Picture brief: Use a soft pink base with small bows, lace lines, pearls, or ribbon details concentrated along the tip.
Coquette French pairs delicate details with a soft base. Keep the decoration minimal on short nails or build a more decorative set for an event.
- Best fit: Short-to-medium oval, almond, squoval, or coffin.
- Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced.
- Maintenance: Moderate to high if decorations are raised.
Ask: “Please do a soft pink French with tiny bow and lace details, keeping the decorations delicate rather than oversized.”
28. Glitter, gem, or mismatched French
Picture brief: Show a coordinated mismatched set with glitter, foil, gems, and different tip treatments; keep the base shades consistent.
A mismatched set gives each nail a related variation. Repeating the base family, tip width, or palette helps it look intentional.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose a design by nail length
| Length | Good starting points | What to adjust |
|---|---|---|
| Very short | Micro-French, invisible French, short squoval classic, tiny dots, or small reverse crescent | Keep the free-edge line thin; a thick tip can occupy too much of the visible nail. |
| Short to medium | Milky, monochrome, pastel rainbow, floral, animal-print, matte-and-gloss, or thin chrome | Use restrained decoration and keep the smile line proportional to the nail bed. |
| Medium to long | Deep, C-French, split-color, outlined, ombré, striped, or textured | Use extra surface for depth or pattern and ask the artist to keep both sides symmetrical. |
| Extensions | Glass, deep sculpted, 3D, chrome, velvet, or elaborate mismatched sets | Confirm extension length and shape; choose a reference showing both art and silhouette. |
Short nails are not disqualified from French design: a micro line, straight micro-tip, tonal edge, or reverse crescent can preserve the idea. A deep French often needs more surface area for visual balance. These are practical adaptations, not rules about what anyone can wear.

| Shape | Designs to consider | Useful request |
|---|---|---|
| Round or oval | Micro, classic, ombré, floral, pastel, or softly colored French | Ask for a smile line that follows the rounded edge. |
| Squoval | Classic pink-and-white, short straight French, stripes, dots, or matte-and-gloss | Keep sidewalls and corners clean while the tip follows the squoval perimeter. |
| Almond | Deep, C-French, chrome, ombré, outlined, velvet, or animal print | Center the smile line on the almond point. |
| Square or coffin | Deep, split-color, striped, geometric, neon, or graphic French | Choose whether the tip follows the straight edge or curves into a stronger smile line. |
| Stiletto | Dramatic deep, chrome, animal-print, or 3D French | Discuss practicality; long pointed extensions may be less convenient for everyday tasks. |
No nail shape is universally flattering. The result depends on the nail bed, length, lifestyle, product system, and preference; use the matrix as a starting point.
Choose the base shade for your undertone
There is no requirement to match polish to a fixed skin-tone category. A nail artist can test sheer shades, and lighting changes how colors appear. As a starting point:
- Warm or golden undertones: Try peachy nude, beige, cream, caramel, warm blush, or gold tips.
- Cool or rosy undertones: Try pink-beige, mauve-tinged sheer shades, cooler blush, soft white, silver, or blue tips.
- Neutral undertones: Most pink, beige, translucent, milky, metallic, and tonal shades can work; choose the desired contrast.
For a natural-looking classic, choose a slightly translucent base. For a fashion design, contrast may matter more than an exact match.
DIY French manicure with regular polish
A short classic, micro-French, monochrome French, or sticker-assisted design is a forgiving home project. This sequence follows Essie’s French-tip tutorial.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Clean and prep. Remove old polish and residue, let nails dry, and file them to a consistent shape. Do not cut the cuticle; it helps protect the nail area from infection.
- Apply a thin base coat. Keep product away from sidewalls and cuticle.
- Build the base. Apply one or two thin coats of sheer pink, nude, beige, or milky polish. Let each coat settle according to its instructions.
- Map the smile line. With a fine liner brush and white polish, start at the center and work toward each side. Keep the line widest in the center and slightly tapered at the corners.
- Balance both sides. Compare left and right corners before moving to the next nail. Painting one nail at a time can help keep widths consistent.
- Clean the perimeter. For regular polish, use a small cleanup brush with remover after the polish has settled. Do not dig into the cuticle or sidewall.
- Seal the design. Apply top coat when the polish is sufficiently set for the product. Float the brush lightly over the surface.
Which tool is easiest?
- Fine liner brush: Best for a custom smile line or micro-French, but requires practice.
- French-tip stickers or guides: A shortcut for regular polish; they may not fit every nail curve.
- Dotting tool: Good for polka dots or a curved tip built from dots.
- Stamping method: Can create repeated edges, but plate and polish compatibility and timing take practice.
- Press-ons: Offer a consistent pre-painted line. Size carefully and follow the manufacturer’s application and removal instructions.
How to paint a French tip on a very short nail
Use the thinnest visible line. A straight micro-tip may be easier than a deep crescent when there is little free edge. You can also use a tonal invisible French or a reverse crescent. Do not force a thick white smile line onto a nail without enough surface to support it.
How to fix an uneven smile line
- Use a fine liner brush to sharpen the lower edge with small, controlled strokes.
- If one side is higher, deepen the opposite side slightly instead of removing the whole tip.
- For regular polish, use a small cleanup brush with remover after the surface settles.
- If curves still do not match, use guides or simplify to a micro or straight French.
- With gel, correct the line before curing; after curing, correction takes more filing or removal.
How to prevent flooding
Use less product, leave a small border around the cuticle and sidewalls, and inspect edges before polish dries or gel cures. If gel touches skin, remove it before curing.
Regular polish, gel, acrylic, dip, or press-ons?
| System | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Regular polish | No lamp needed; comparatively simple removal; suitable for straightforward home designs. | Can be less forgiving while drying and may not wear as long as correctly applied gel. |
| Gel polish | Useful for crisp salon art, layered color, chrome, magnetic, and textured finishes. | Requires the correct lamp and cure sequence. Repeated use, picking, or improper removal can contribute to brittleness, peeling, and cracking. |
| Acrylic or extensions | Add length and a stable surface for deep, glass, 3D, and sculpted designs. | Filing, soaking, touch-ups, and removal can weaken natural nails, especially when repeated or aggressive. |
| Dip powder | Can provide structure and a durable base in a salon system. | Application and removal vary; do not assume dip is automatically gentler or safer. |
| Press-ons | Offer consistent pre-painted tips and an alternative to freehand painting. | Fit, adhesive, wear, and removal affect results. Do not rip them off or use them to cover unexplained damage. |
Gel instructions are product-specific. For example, an OPI professional tutorial specifies thin coats, capping the free edge, and a 30-second cure in an OPI Star Light Gel Lamp. Do not generalize that timing to other brands or lamps; follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Gel removal and nail recovery
- Do not peel or pick gel. Lifting product can remove layers of the natural nail.
- Use the intended removal method. Depending on the system, this may involve acetone soaking, filing, or professional removal.
- Limit acetone exposure. The American Academy of Dermatology advises soaking only fingertips rather than the whole hands; its gel guidance says polish generally releases after about 15 minutes, although formulas and thickness vary.
- Stop covering persistent changes. If a nail remains painful, discolored, peeling, unusually thin, or swollen, seek medical advice rather than applying another enhancement.
The AAD recommends moderation with gel manicures, protecting hands from UV exposure with sunscreen or opaque fingertip gloves, avoiding cuticle cutting, and taking polish breaks when nails become brittle or damaged. Its artificial-nail guidance notes that frequent filing, soaking, and touch-ups can leave natural nails thin, brittle, and dry.

- Do not cut or aggressively push back the cuticle; it is a protective barrier.
- Choose a salon that follows local licensing, cleaning, disinfection, and ventilation requirements.
- Ask how reusable tools are cleaned and whether files and buffers are single-use or handled under local rules.
- Do not allow uncured gel, acrylic liquid, or other nail product to remain on surrounding skin.
- Marketing terms such as clean, non-toxic, strengthening, or 10-free are not universal proof of harmlessness. The FDA’s nail-care guidance notes that formaldehyde-containing hardeners may make nails brittle with frequent use and methacrylate exposure can cause allergic reactions in sensitized people.
- Stop using a product and seek advice for persistent redness, itching, swelling, pain, blistering, peeling, discoloration, or a rash. The AAD recommends consulting a board-certified dermatologist for persistent nail changes or suspected allergy.
How to prepare a useful salon reference
Send the artist a design image and state:
- Your natural length or requested extension length.
- Your nail shape: round, oval, squoval, almond, square, coffin, or stiletto.
- Base color and opacity: sheer, translucent, milky, nude, or opaque.
- Tip color, width, depth, and finish.
- Whether you want regular polish, gel, acrylic, dip, or press-ons.
- Your occasion and maintenance preference.
- Details to omit, such as gems, raised texture, or a deep smile line.
A useful formula is base + tip treatment + length + shape + finish + system. For example: “I want a translucent milky base, ultra-thin silver chrome tips, short almond nails, a glossy finish, and gel polish.” For a classic appointment: “Please do a sheer blush base, medium-width white smile line, short squoval shape, and glossy regular polish.”
Picture, credit, and accessibility standards
For a nail-photo gallery, visual accuracy matters as much as wording. Each image should be:
- Original, commissioned, licensed, or otherwise permission-cleared for the planned use.
- Credited to the nail artist, photographer, model, and source where applicable.
- Photographed with consistent lighting, camera distance, background, and hand position.
- Shown as a full-hand image plus a close-up for chrome, texture, flowers, dots, or fine lines.
- Captioned with design name, nail length, shape, base and tip colors, and unusual finish.
- Described with concise, informative alt text that communicates important visual information.
A credit is not permission. Public Instagram or Pinterest images are not automatically free to copy. The U.S. Copyright Office explains that photographs are protected works, and its fair-use FAQ says fair use is circumstance-specific; there is no universal safe percentage or image-size rule. For image descriptions, use the W3C Images Tutorial and its alt-text tips.
Do not use an AI-generated nail image as an exact salon reference unless it is clearly labeled and checked against real application limits. AI images can show impossible sidewalls, inconsistent finger anatomy, or art that cannot be reproduced with the stated system.
FAQ
Does a French manicure have to be white?
No. White is traditional, but modern French designs can use black, red, pastels, neon, chrome, glitter, animal print, or tonal shades. The defining idea is an intentional tip, edge, reverse crescent, or negative-space interpretation—not one mandatory color.
What is the best French manicure for short nails?
Start with a micro-French, invisible French, short squoval classic, tiny polka-dot tip, or reverse French. Keep the free-edge line thin and proportional; a deep or thick tip may overwhelm a very short nail.
Should the base or French tip be painted first?
Apply the base coat and sheer base color first, then paint the tip once the base has settled. Reverse French designs also begin with the base, followed by the cuticle-side crescent.
Is gel better than regular polish for French nails?
Neither is universally better. Regular polish avoids lamp exposure and is easier to remove; gel can make detailed salon finishes easier to build. Gel requires the correct lamp, product sequence, cure time, and removal method, and repeated use or picking can contribute to nail damage.

What should I say when booking a French manicure?
Give the technician the base color and opacity, tip color and width, nail length, shape, finish, and product system. For example: “I want a sheer blush base with ultra-thin white micro-French tips on short squoval natural nails, finished glossy with regular polish.”
The bottom line
For a versatile starting point, choose a sheer base, a tip width that matches your nail length, and a shape you can maintain. Short nails often suit micro, invisible, milky, or reverse French designs; longer nails provide room for deep, chrome, outlined, glass, and textured versions. Take a clear reference photo to your appointment, specify length, shape, colors, finish, and product system, and use only images that are original, licensed, or permission-cleared.
