AllPeopleQuilt’s 32 Christmas Sewing Projects is a seasonal roundup for finding handmade touches for the home, gifts, and Christmas activities. Its entries go beyond ornaments: the examples include pillows, table items, towels, gift packaging, a stocking, and an Advent calendar. The page is attributed to American Patchwork & Quilting Editors and was updated December 15, 2025.

What you’ll find in the 32-project roundup

The projects are easier to navigate by what you want to make than by assuming they all suit the same skill level or supply list. AllPeopleQuilt names projects including Ornament Boxes Pillows, Christmas Countdown, O Tannenbaum Pincushions, Holiday Appliqué Place Mat, Craft and Carry, Holiday Mitten Decor, Festive Towels, Snack for Santa, Festive Wine Wrap, Christmas Pillow Wrap, Mitten Stocking, Season’s Greetings bag, and Fabric Gift Bag.

  • Home decor and table accents: Ornament Boxes Pillows, Holiday Appliqué Place Mat, Christmas Pillow Wrap, Festive Towels, and Holiday Mitten Decor. These offer options for dressing up a room or table.
  • Gifts and reusable packaging: Craft and Carry, Festive Wine Wrap, Season’s Greetings bag, and Fabric Gift Bag. Choose one of these when the handmade wrapping or container is part of the gift.
  • Small seasonal makes and activities: O Tannenbaum Pincushions, Christmas Countdown, Snack for Santa, and Mitten Stocking. These include small objects and a countdown project as well as a stocking.

These groupings describe the named examples, not standardized categories or difficulty ratings assigned by the roundup. Follow each linked pattern for its actual construction, measurements, and supplies.

Match the project to the kind of sewing you want to do

The roundup includes different materials and techniques rather than one uniform approach. Its project descriptions mention the following examples:

  • Patchwork and piecing: Ornament Boxes Pillows uses 5-inch fabric squares; Festive Wine Wrap uses foundation piecing; and Festive Towels uses precut 2½-inch squares and rickrack.
  • Appliqué and embellishment: Holiday Appliqué Place Mat combines ornament appliqués, yo-yos, and trims. Snack for Santa uses fusible-web appliqués and embroidered words. Berry Sweet uses needle-turn appliqué.
  • Handwork and texture: O Tannenbaum Pincushions uses felted wool, hand embroidery, and fringe. A pillow project also uses Dresden-style pieces and trapunto.
  • Scrap-friendly construction: A snowman door hanger uses cotton scraps, buttons, and batting.

These details belong to their specific projects; they are not a shared materials list. Check the instructions for the project you select before buying fabric, notions, or batting.

How to choose without assuming a project is beginner-friendly

The available roundup information does not give a consistent difficulty rating, completion time, or cost for all 32 entries. Instead, use the pattern instructions to check whether the construction suits your experience and available time.

  1. Decide the purpose: choose a home accent, table item, gift container, stocking, or small seasonal object.
  2. Check the construction: look for the techniques you are comfortable with, such as piecing, quilting, appliqué, embroidery, or hand stitching.
  3. Read the supply list and measurements: confirm fabric sizes, materials, and any specialty notions before purchasing.
  4. Check the linked pattern: confirm that its instructions and links are available and that the project fits your intended use.

Other places to find Christmas sewing patterns

Free seasonal projects from Sewing & Craft Alliance

The Sewing & Craft Alliance holiday project library offers free projects to sew and embroider. Its examples include stockings, Santa chair covers, wreaths, table runners, tree skirts, bottle covers, napkins, placemats, ornaments, a card holder, and a fleece throw. It is a separate project library, not another version of the AllPeopleQuilt roundup.

A collected project book from Search Press

Sewing for Christmas is a separate Search Press book published in 2023. The publisher lists 30 projects, photographs, a techniques section, and full-size templates. Its contents include stockings, a table runner, an Advent calendar, a wreath, a garland, mug rugs, a teddy, and slippers. The book’s project count should not be confused with AllPeopleQuilt’s 32-project roundup.
