The title refers to a 2014 roundup of 40 square-form pattern designs, described as free downloads for website backgrounds and banner images. The available references do not confirm that the original files can still be downloaded, or establish their formats or licenses. Treat it as a historical source: check each asset’s original page and terms before using it.
What is included in the square-pattern roundup?
A January 31, 2014 archive entry associated with the title describes 40 free-to-download square pattern assets for website backgrounds or banners. A February 4, 2014 design roundup also uses the title and describes patterns incorporating square forms. The count is the roundup’s stated number; it is not an independently verified count of working downloadable files.

The related roundup features the caption “Pattern / candy bunnies :: COLOURlovers.” That identifies an example associated with the roundup, but does not establish that the asset remains available or that its terms permit a particular use.
Can you still download the patterns for free?
Current availability is unverified. The references date from 2014 and do not establish whether the original download page or individual asset links still work. Check the original item and each linked asset directly; do not assume an old “free download” description guarantees a working file today.
Can you use a square pattern as a website background?
The historical description recommends the patterns for website backgrounds and banner images. Whether a particular file is technically suitable depends on its actual dimensions, format, and how it repeats or tiles—details not established for the collection as a whole.
Before using an asset, inspect its original source page for the file, attribution requirements, and license scope. The available references do not establish licensing terms, including whether commercial use is allowed. Do not treat inclusion in a free-download roundup as permission to use an image commercially.

If you locate a working asset, assess it from its own source rather than inferring details from the roundup title or a caption. Check:
- Visual style: whether the motif and colors fit the intended background or banner.
- Repeat behavior: whether edges join cleanly when the image is tiled, if you intend to use it as a repeating background.
- Dimensions and file format: whether the available file suits the intended placement and workflow.
- Attribution and license scope: whether credit is required and whether the terms cover your intended use, especially commercial use.
The references do not identify all 40 designs or provide those asset-level details, so a complete item-by-item comparison is not supported.
