A handmade gift card holder can be folded from paper, stitched from felt or fabric, or crocheted into a small pocket. Choose a construction that suits your materials and tools, then check the specific card against the pattern before making the holder.

Choose a construction that fits your materials
For paper folding and decorating
The scored-card and circle-fold projects are different builds. The scored version uses a cardstock base with folds and applied panels; the Haywood County project assembles four folded circles into a pouch. Follow the relevant instructions rather than combining their templates. Paper projects call for the cutting or scoring tools and adhesive specified by that design.

For a soft felt holder
Pick the flap-and-button envelope if you want a defined flap and button closure. The simpler two-layer sleeve is sewn along its sides and bottom without a separate closure. For that felt sleeve, see kate sew also describes a hot-glue alternative: apply a narrow line along the sides and bottom, keeping the pocket wide enough for the card.
For a fabric pouch
The snap version uses two 5-by-7-inch fabric pieces, with lightweight interfacing optional. A ribbon-tie variation is also described. For a more decorative pouch, Laura Radniecki’s tutorial suggests trim, fringe, felt lettering or decorative stitching; choose embellishments with their extra materials and sewing needs in mind.

For a crocheted pocket
The crochet construction starts as a long rectangle, which is folded and seamed into a pocket. Handy Little Me gives three design options and lists DK-weight yarn scraps, a 4 mm hook, scissors and a tapestry needle. Its approximate folded size is pattern-specific rather than a universal fit measurement.

Gift cards and handmade templates can differ in size, so measure the actual card and follow the chosen project’s sizing and seam guidance. Tonya Staab’s felt-envelope instructions specifically advise measuring the card and allowing extra room for seams. The crochet pattern supplies its own approximate finished size; do not assume that every handmade holder will match it.
