The latest listed 17.4.0 package supports arm64-v8a and armeabi-v7a, and targets Android 15. Its published changelog says it “Fixed some known issues” and “improved the trimming experience.”

Version 17.4.0 is an older release, not the current Android version. Later 18.x CapCut uploads are listed, including 18.3.0 and 18.4.0. Choose 17.4.0 because you need that particular release, not because it is the newest version.
Recommended way to install CapCut
Option 1: Google Play
Google Play is the preferred route because Android can verify and update the app normally.
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search for CapCut.
- Confirm that the developer is Bytedance Pte. Ltd..
- Tap Install.
The official Play listing identifies the package as com.lemon.lvoverseas. Google Play may install a newer release rather than 17.4.0, so it is not a reliable way to select that older build.
Option 2: CapCut’s official Android APK
For a direct APK, use CapCut’s own website rather than a random download page:

- Open CapCut’s Android APK instructions in your Android browser.
- Choose Download Android APK.
- If Chrome warns, “File might be harmful,” tap Download anyway only when you are on CapCut’s official site.
- Open the file from the browser notification or the Downloads folder.
- If Android asks Allow Chrome to install apps?, enable the permission for Chrome, or for the file manager you are using.
- Return to the APK and complete the installation.
The wording and location of this permission differ between Android versions and phone manufacturers. Do not assume that one universal path such as Settings > Security > Unknown sources applies to every device. After installing, turn off the temporary install permission unless you still need it.
Installing an archived 17.4.0 build
Third-party archives such as APKPure and APKMirror list older CapCut packages and may show the build code, architecture, file size, signature, and hash. They are useful for identifying an archived release, but they are not CapCut’s official distribution channels.
Before downloading, compare all of the following:
- Package name: com.lemon.lvoverseas
- Version and full build code, such as 17401600
- Android minimum version: Android 6.0
- CPU architecture: usually arm64-v8a or armeabi-v7a
- File type: ordinary APK versus XAPK or APKS
- Published size, signature information, and hash where supplied
A page that says only “CapCut 17.4.0” is not precise enough. The four listed builds can have different upload dates, sizes, hashes, or packaging.

APK, XAPK, and APKS are not interchangeable
A regular APK is normally opened directly. An XAPK or APKS download may contain a base APK plus configuration packages for architecture, language, or screen density. Tapping a split package in a basic file manager can produce an installation error because Android expects the component files to be installed together.

Do not rename a split package to make it look like a normal APK. Use a reputable installer that explicitly supports that format, or find a universal APK from a trustworthy source. Avoid installing several unrelated split-package installer tools simply to force an unverified file onto the phone.
Compatibility and storage
CapCut 17.4.0 requires Android 6.0 or later. It cannot be installed on Android 5.x, regardless of whether an old download page claims otherwise. The phone also needs the correct architecture and enough free storage.
The approximately 287.6 MB download is not the total space the app will use. Android may need room for the installer and extracted files, while CapCut can add effects, templates, cache, local drafts, and exported videos. A phone with only 300 MB free can therefore fail even when the APK appears to fit.
For painting footage, storage can disappear quickly: a long 4K recording, several duplicate exports, and a cache of downloaded music or effects may occupy much more space than the app itself. Move finished videos to a computer or external storage and leave additional free space before installing.

How to update or check the installed version
For the Android app:
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search for CapCut.
- Tap Update if it appears.
- If the button says Open, Google Play considers the installed app up to date for that device and region.
CapCut says mobile updates can be released gradually, so update availability may differ by region and device. If you install an older APK over a newer version, Android may reject it because downgrading is restricted. Back up important drafts before attempting it.
CapCut Desktop has a different update control: Settings > Version > Check for updates. That menu is for the desktop application; it does not install Android 17.4.0.

Security, Pro features, and project backups
Use Google Play or CapCut’s website whenever possible. An APK labelled “CapCut Pro,” “Premium unlocked,” “no watermark,” or “mod APK” is not the standard 17.4.0 release. The version number does not prove that Pro tools have been legitimately unlocked. CapCut has free and paid features, and the official Play listing includes in-app purchases.
CapCut’s Google Play data-safety disclosure says the app may collect information such as approximate location, device or other IDs, audio, photos and videos, personal information, crash data, diagnostics, app interactions, and other user-generated content, depending on how the app is used and which permissions are granted. The listing says data is encrypted in transit and that users can request deletion. Review permissions before importing personal studio footage.

Do not uninstall the working app casually when experimenting with an older build. Locally stored drafts may be lost during uninstalling or downgrading. Export important painting edits, synchronize them where supported, and copy original footage somewhere safe first. A CapCut project is not a substitute for retaining the original camera files.
