Adobe Photoshop is available as a full Creative Cloud application for Windows and macOS, a mobile app for iPhone and Android phones, and a browser-based web app. The installation method, supported hardware, and subscription requirements differ between them.
For painting work, the desktop version remains the most complete choice: it supports large documents, advanced brushes, layers, selections, masks, and detailed color workflows. The mobile and web versions are useful for sketching, retouching, reviewing, and making edits away from your main computer.

Download Photoshop for Windows or macOS
Adobe distributes the desktop application through the Creative Cloud desktop app rather than as a standalone installer. You need to sign in with an Adobe account and have a Photoshop subscription or active trial.
Install Photoshop from Adobe’s website
- Go to Adobe Home.
- Sign in to your Adobe account.
- Open the Apps tab.
- Find Photoshop and select Download.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
Adobe installs the Creative Cloud desktop app as part of this process. Creative Cloud then downloads Photoshop, handles updates, and manages your installed Adobe applications.

Install Photoshop when Creative Cloud is already installed
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.
- Select the Apps tab.
- Find Photoshop.
- Select Install.
- Follow the onscreen instructions. Photoshop opens automatically after installation.
Desktop system requirements
Adobe’s current requirements page applies to Photoshop version 27.x and later. Check the operating system before starting the download, particularly on a studio computer that is not updated regularly.

For digital painting, 8 GB RAM is only the minimum. Large canvases, many layers, high-resolution textures, and large brush presets can make Photoshop considerably more comfortable with additional memory and fast storage.

If the installer fails despite apparently sufficient space, check the format of the target volume.
Download Photoshop for Android
Adobe’s current Photoshop mobile app is available through Google Play and is labeled Beta. Use Adobe’s Photoshop mobile download page or search Google Play for the official app published by Adobe.
- Open the Google Play Store on an Android phone.
- Search for Adobe Photoshop.
- Check that the publisher is Adobe.
- Select Install.
- Open the app and sign in if a subscription feature requires it.
Android requirements currently include:
- Android 11 or later.
- An Android phone; Android tablets and Chromebooks are not supported.
- At least 6 GB RAM supported.
- 8 GB RAM or more recommended.
The Android app is free to download, but some tools require a paid subscription. Adobe’s mobile Photoshop is separate from Photoshop Express; do not assume that installing Express provides the same layers, selections, retouching, Generative Fill, or Generative Expand features.

Download Photoshop for iPhone
Photoshop for iPhone is installed from Apple’s App Store. It requires an iPhone capable of running iOS 18 or later.
- Open the App Store.
- Search for Adobe Photoshop.
- Confirm that Adobe is shown as the developer.
- Tap Get and authenticate with your Apple account.
- Open Photoshop and sign in when prompted.
The iPhone app is free to download, with premium features available through a subscription. Photoshop for iPad is a separate app experience, so the iPhone requirement should not be treated as an iPad compatibility statement.
Use Photoshop in a web browser
Photoshop on the web is not downloaded. Open photoshop.adobe.com in a supported browser, or use Adobe’s website:
- Go to Adobe Home.
- Sign in.
- Open the Apps tab.
- Find Photoshop.
- Select Open, not Download.
For the most reliable editing experience, use the latest 64-bit version of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox on a desktop computer. Adobe lists these minimum browser versions:
- Google Chrome 102 or later, 64-bit.
- Microsoft Edge 102 or later, 64-bit.
- Firefox 111 or later on desktop.
- Safari 18.3 or later on Mac, currently marked Beta by Adobe.
The web app also requires at least 8 GB RAM, a 64-bit processor with four or more cores, and available browser storage. Avoid private or incognito browsing. In Chrome, the setting Delete data when you close all windows can prevent Photoshop from retaining the local data it needs.

Unsupported mobile browsers may let you view, comment on, or download cloud documents, but they cannot edit in Photoshop on the web.
Open and save painting files in Photoshop on the web
Photoshop on the web saves documents as Adobe Cloud documents by default. These documents can later be opened in the desktop application or downloaded to your device.
To upload a file:
- Open Photoshop on the web.
- Select Upload file.
- Choose the image from your device.
- Use Main menu > Save as to save it as a Cloud document.
Common supported imports include PSD, PSDC, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, HEIC, PSB, RAW, and WebP. Export options include PSD, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, and WebP. For an ongoing painting project, keep the layered PSD or Cloud document rather than exporting only a flattened JPEG.
Does Photoshop require a subscription?
Adobe’s current Photoshop distribution is subscription-based. The US Photoshop plan is listed at US$22.99 per month, billed annually, and includes a 7-day free trial. Prices and plan availability vary by country.

Fix common download and installation problems
Photoshop is missing from the Creative Cloud Apps tab
First, confirm that Creative Cloud is signed in to the Adobe account with the Photoshop entitlement or trial. A school or company account may be managed by an administrator who has not assigned Photoshop to you.
If Photoshop is installed but does not appear in the Apps tab, sign out of Creative Cloud and remove damaged Adobe User Info credentials:
- Windows: open Credential Manager > Windows Credentials, find the Adobe User Info credentials, and remove them.
- macOS: open Keychain Access, select the login keychain, find Adobe User Info entries, and delete them.
Reopen Creative Cloud and sign in again.
The installer is stuck or fails
Check the operating system, free disk space, and—on macOS—the target volume format. Network, proxy, firewall, and company policy restrictions can also block the download. A damaged Creative Cloud installation or another Adobe process running in the background can produce the same symptom.

If ordinary checks do not help, use Adobe’s Download & Install Help for the specific error code or Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool guidance. Do not download an unofficial “portable” Photoshop installer: it may be modified, unsupported, or contain malware.
Photoshop says the subscription cannot be verified
Desktop Photoshop needs internet access for activation and periodic subscription validation. Check the connection, sign in with the account that owns the plan, and verify that the computer’s date and time are correct.

An individual Creative Cloud plan can be signed in on up to two devices at once. Signing in on a third device produces a device-activation-limit message. To deactivate an old computer, open Adobe account > Plans and payment > Activated devices, locate the device, and select Deactivate.
Photoshop on the web freezes or will not open a file
- Open the file in a new browser window.
- Update Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- Clear the browser cache and cookies.
- Restart the computer.
- Do not use private or incognito browsing.
- Allow the browser to save site data.
Large files can take noticeable time to open. Enterprise browser storage quotas and settings that delete site data automatically can also interfere with Cloud documents.
Download Photoshop safely
Use Adobe’s website, Google Play, or Apple’s App Store. Avoid third-party download pages promising a free full version, a crack, or a permanent license. Current Photoshop desktop installation requires an Adobe account, and activation requires internet access.

Is Photoshop free to download?
The iPhone and Android apps are free to download, but some mobile features require a subscription. Adobe offers a 7-day desktop trial, while Photoshop on the web requires a Photoshop plan or trial for editing uploaded personal images.
Can I download Photoshop for the web?

Why is Photoshop not showing in Creative Cloud?

You can also sign out and remove Adobe User Info credentials from Windows Credential Manager or macOS Keychain Access before signing in again.
