Photoshop 27.5 is installed through Adobe Creative Cloud, not downloaded as a separate Photoshop installer. The March 2026 release is useful for painters and digital artists who want Photoshop’s generative tools alongside a traditional layer-based workflow, including Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Image, Harmonize, and the option to send a Photoshop document to Adobe Firefly Boards.
You need an Adobe account and an eligible Photoshop or Creative Cloud plan. Adobe’s desktop trial lasts seven days and changes to a paid subscription unless it is canceled before the trial ends. See Adobe’s Photoshop free trial terms.
Before downloading Photoshop 27.5
Check these requirements first, particularly if you work with large canvases, textured brushes, or high-resolution reference images. These requirements are for the Photoshop 27.x line, according to Adobe’s technical requirements:

Photoshop cannot be installed on a case-sensitive file system. Photoshop 27.x also does not support macOS Monterey 12 or Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H2. The 10 GB storage figure is a minimum: keep additional free space available for temporary installation files, scratch-disk use, and large artwork.

How to install Photoshop 27.5
- Download and install the Creative Cloud desktop app from Adobe.
- Open Creative Cloud and sign in with the Adobe account that owns the Photoshop subscription or trial.
- Open the Apps tab.
- Find Photoshop in the list.
- Open the three-dot More actions menu on the Photoshop tile.
- Choose Other versions.
- Find Photoshop 27.5 and select Install.
Creative Cloud only shows versions available for your account, operating system, plan, and Adobe’s current catalog. If 27.5 is missing, that does not mean the computer is necessarily incompatible; Adobe may no longer expose that build to your account or region, or an administrator may control available versions on a school or company plan.
Keep Photoshop 27.5 when installing newer releases
Creative Cloud commonly removes the previous Photoshop installation when it installs a newer version. To keep 27.5 for older PSD files, plug-ins, or a familiar painting setup:
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select the Account icon.
- Choose Preferences, then open Apps.
- Turn on Auto-update if necessary.
- Open Photoshop’s Advanced options.
- Deselect Remove older versions.
- Select Done.
Managed school and business accounts may hide these controls. In that situation, an administrator must deploy or preserve the required Photoshop version.

Confirm that version 27.5 is installed
- Windows: open Help > About Photoshop.
- macOS: open Photoshop > About Photoshop.
The About dialog shows the installed version and build number. Check it before troubleshooting an AI feature, since later Photoshop releases can change available models and services.
AI features useful for painters
There is no separate “Photoshop AI edition.” The generative tools are built into the normal desktop application and operate alongside layers, masks, selections, adjustment layers, and painting tools. Depending on your plan, available credits, and Adobe’s current services, Photoshop 27.5 includes:
- Generative Fill: add, remove, or alter selected areas without permanently painting over the original layer.
- Generative Expand: extend a cropped canvas and create surrounding content.
- Generate Image: create an image from a text prompt.
- Generate Background: replace or extend a background.
- Generate Similar: create alternatives based on selected content.
- Harmonize: match a foreground subject to a background’s lighting, color, and appearance.
- Generative Upscale: enlarge suitable images while attempting to preserve useful detail.
For a painting workflow, these tools are best treated as exploration and compositing aids rather than replacements for drawing. For example, you can use Generative Expand to test a wider composition, Harmonize to place a painted figure into a new environment, or Generative Fill to create rough prop variations before repainting the result manually.

Choose AI models from the model picker in the Contextual Task Bar. Generative features use credits, and the number of available generations depends on the Adobe plan and selected model. To check the account’s credit balance, open the Account menu in Photoshop.
Use Firefly Boards from Photoshop 27.5
The documented feature specific to the March 2026 release is integration with Adobe Firefly Boards. It lets you move a Photoshop document into Boards, explore visual variations, and return a selected result to Photoshop.
Send a local PSD to Firefly Boards
- Open the artwork with File > Open.
- Choose Share > Send to Firefly Boards.
- Select an existing Boards file or create a new one.
- Select Open in Boards.
You can also use File > Export > Send to Firefly Boards. Photoshop uploads the local PSD to Adobe Cloud as a cloud document in PSDC format. Save a local copy first if the original file is your master painting, and avoid uploading client work or unreleased artwork unless your permissions and project terms allow cloud processing. Open a Boards result in Photoshop
In Firefly Boards, right-click the image you want to continue editing and select Open in Photoshop. Photoshop opens the result as a new document, where you can repaint edges, restore texture, rebuild layers, and make the final color corrections.
Important limitation concerning Firefly Image 3
Do not install 27.5 expecting permanent access to every model associated with that release. Adobe removed Firefly Image 3 from the model picker beginning with Photoshop 27.6 and said it would remain temporarily functional in versions 26.0 through 27.5. When Photoshop 27.5 is missing from Creative Cloud
Try the following checks:
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Adobe account with Photoshop access.
- Check that your operating system meets the 27.x requirements.
- Open Photoshop’s three-dot menu and choose Other versions rather than looking only at the main Install button.
- Check whether the account is managed by a school, employer, or team administrator.
- Look for Adobe’s current list of available app versions.
Adobe does not guarantee that every previous build remains downloadable indefinitely. Avoid random “Photoshop 27.5” mirrors: they cannot provide Adobe licensing validation or trustworthy malware and file-integrity checks.
Fix common installation and AI problems

FAQ
Is Photoshop 27.5 free to download?
No. The supported desktop download comes through Adobe Creative Cloud and requires an eligible Photoshop or Creative Cloud subscription. Adobe offers a seven-day trial that automatically converts to a paid subscription unless canceled in time; see Adobe’s trial terms.
Can I download Photoshop 27.5 without Creative Cloud?
Adobe’s supported installation method is the Creative Cloud desktop app. Photoshop 27.5 is not distributed as an independent installer from Adobe.
Why can’t I see Photoshop 27.5 under Other versions?
Creative Cloud only displays versions available for your account, plan, operating system, and Adobe’s current catalog. A managed school or business account can also restrict the versions shown.
Does Photoshop 27.5 include unlimited AI generations?
No. Generative features use plan-dependent generative credits, and Adobe can change or retire individual AI models independently of the installed Photoshop version.
