To make a picture round in Canva, add a circular frame from Elements and place your photo inside it. Then resize or reposition the photo within the frame to get the crop you want. Canva documents this workflow for both desktop and mobile; available controls may vary by interface.
How to make a picture round in Canva on a computer
- Open a design. Start a new Canva design or open an existing one.
- Add a circular frame. In the editor side panel, select Elements, browse or search for Frames, and add a circular frame.
- Add your photo. Select Uploads to use your own picture, or use a photo from Canva’s Photos library.
- Place the photo in the frame. Drag the photo over the circular frame until it snaps into place.
- Adjust the crop. Double-click the photo in the frame. Drag it to reposition the visible subject or resize it with the corner handles.
- Finish and download. Select Done when that control appears, then download the design in an available format.
Canva Help Center describes frames this way: “Frames let you crop images or videos into different shapes to add style and structure to your designs.” See Use frames and crop images into a shape.
How to make a picture round in the Canva mobile app
- Open a project in the Canva app.
- Tap +, search for Frames in Elements, and add a circular frame.
- Tap + again and find your picture under Uploads, or choose another available image.
- Place the picture in the frame. Select or double-tap it to adjust its size and position within the circle.
- Tap Done when that control appears, then download or share using the app’s available controls.
Canva’s mobile controls may be arranged differently from the desktop editor. The essential workflow is the same: add a circular frame, put the photo in it, and adjust the photo within the frame.

The frame sets the shape of the visible crop. Moving or resizing the photo inside it changes which part of the picture appears in the circle. Double-click the framed image on desktop, or select or double-tap it on mobile, then drag or resize the photo to center the subject and adjust how tightly it fills the frame.

Other ways to make a circular frame
The direct circular-frame workflow is the simplest route. Canva also documents a way to convert some existing shapes into frames: add a shape and media, select both, and choose Change to frame when the option is available. This conversion only works for eligible shapes; it is not available for every shape or element type. If the option does not appear, use a circular frame from Elements instead.

Download the finished picture
Canva’s circle-crop page lists JPEG, PNG, and PDF as download formats. Choose a format based on how you plan to use the design, and check the available export options in Canva. A circular crop in the editor is a frame-based composition; do not assume that a PNG download automatically has transparent corners. If transparency matters, verify the export behavior and options for your account in the editor.

Border and rounded-corner options
Canva documents border styling for supported images, videos, frames, and shapes through the editor’s Stroke style control, including stroke weight and color. The control may not be available for every element. Canva also supports adjusting corner rounding on supported elements, but rounded corners do not make a rectangular picture fully circular. Use a circular frame for a true round crop.

Why is my photo not going into the circular frame?
Make sure you are placing the photo in the frame rather than leaving it as a separate image on the page. Drag the photo over the frame on desktop, or use the app’s placement controls on mobile.
How do I move the photo inside the circle?
Select or double-click the framed photo, then drag or resize it to adjust which part is visible. The exact controls depend on the editor interface.

Can I use any shape as a frame?
No. Canva’s Change to frame option applies only to eligible shapes, and it is not available for every element type. If you cannot use that option, add a frame from Elements.

No. The circle crop is part of the Canva design, and export behavior depends on the download settings available to your account. Check the editor’s current options rather than assuming that a PNG automatically includes transparency.

What is the difference between a circular crop and rounded corners?
A circular frame displays the photo through a circle. Rounded corners curve the corners of a supported rectangular element but do not turn the whole picture into a circle.
