DALL-E 3 Bing Image Creator tips and tricks work best when you replace a bare subject with a detailed visual brief: specify the subject, action, setting, composition, lighting, palette, medium, mood, and format. Verify that DALL-E 3 is selected because Bing Image Creator is now a multi-model service.
The same workflow applies whether you want realistic photography, illustration, a poster, or artwork for a painting reference: define the scene first, control the layout deliberately, then refine one variable at a time.
Key takeaways
- Bing Image Creator is a free, changing multi-model service that currently lists DALL-E 3 alongside other image models, so verify the selected model before judging a result.
- The most reliable prompt improvement is replacing a bare subject with a visual brief covering the subject, action, setting, composition, lighting, palette, medium, mood, and constraints.
- The Bing Image Creator help interface currently offers square, horizontal, and vertical formats and can return four images, but the available controls may vary by device, market, or browser version.
- Iterating one or two variables at a time makes it easier to identify which prompt change improved or damaged the image.
- Generated images can contain incorrect text, hands, faces, logos, object counts, or factual details, so every result needs human inspection before publication.
- Microsoft’s terms do not promise unrestricted commercial clearance: users remain responsible for copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, defamation, and other legal risks.
How do you get better results from Bing Image Creator?
Use a compact visual brief instead of a one-word prompt. Put the main subject, visible action, and setting first, then define the composition, lighting, color palette, medium or style, mood, aspect ratio, and any layout constraints.
Microsoft says Image Creator works best when prompts are descriptive and recommends details such as adjectives, locations, camera angles, and styles including “digital art” and “photorealistic.” See Microsoft’s official Bing Image Creator guidance for the product’s current model and feature information.

A practical DALL-E 3 Bing Image Creator prompt formula
Build prompts in this order:
- Shot and composition: close-up, medium shot, wide establishing shot, overhead view, low angle, centered subject, profile view, or symmetrical composition.
- Subject: name the person, animal, object, or scene with concrete visual nouns.
- Action: describe what the subject is visibly doing with a specific verb.
- Setting: identify the location, surroundings, season, time of day, or historical context when relevant.
- Lighting: specify soft overcast daylight, warm golden-hour light, neon rim lighting, studio light, candlelight, or another coherent setup.
- Palette: choose muted earth tones, cool blue-green shadows, saturated primary colors, monochrome, or another deliberate range.
- Medium or style: choose editorial photography, watercolor illustration, ink drawing, cinematic concept art, claymation, paper collage, linocut, 3D render, or flat vector poster.
- Mood and constraints: add calm, dramatic, playful, restrained, historically accurate, no text, a particular object count, or another important requirement.
- Layout: state whether the image should be square, horizontal, or vertical and request negative space on a named side if text will be added later.
Template: Create a [shot type/composition] of [main subject] [performing an action] in [specific setting]. Use [lighting], [color palette], and [camera or viewpoint]. Render it as [medium/style], with [mood] and [important constraints]. Leave [negative space or layout requirement] for [intended use].
Example: a stronger prompt than “fox”
Create a medium-wide editorial photograph of a red fox crossing a mossy forest stream at dawn. Use soft backlighting, cool green shadows, a natural muted palette, shallow depth of field, and a low camera angle. Photorealistic wildlife photography, calm mood, horizontal composition, with open space on the left for a headline.
The example does not guarantee that every generation will reproduce every requested detail. Its value is that it gives the image model a constrained visual brief rather than leaving the subject, action, camera, lighting, and layout unspecified.
Why do descriptive prompts work better?
Descriptive prompts reduce the number of visual decisions left open to the model. “Astronaut” identifies a subject but does not determine the suit, pose, location, camera, light, mood, or medium. “An astronaut repairing a weathered rover on a dusty Mars plain, photographed from a low angle in hard late-afternoon light” supplies imageable decisions that can be evaluated against the request.
OpenAI’s 2023 DALL-E 3 research paper explains the model-level rationale: “We show that prompt following abilities of text-to-image models can be substantially improved by training on highly descriptive generated image captions.” Read the 2023 DALL-E 3 research paper for that finding and its technical context.
What should you put first in a DALL-E 3 prompt?
Put the subject and its action before decorative style instructions. A stable scene usually begins with who or what is present, what the subject is doing, and where the action takes place.
| Weak instruction | More useful instruction | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| A beautiful nature scene | A weathered red canoe beside a misty alpine lake at sunrise | Names visible objects, condition, location, atmosphere, and time. |
| A chef | A chef plating ramen at a stainless-steel counter | Adds a concrete action and environment. |
| A cool sci-fi image | A lone engineer examining a glowing map inside a cramped orbital station | Defines the subject, action, setting, and visual premise. |
| Make it artistic | Flat vector poster with limited colors, bold geometric shapes, and clean edges | Translates a vague preference into a medium and visual language. |
Concrete nouns and visible verbs are especially useful. “A chef plating ramen” gives the model a more observable action than “a chef,” while “a weathered red canoe beside a misty alpine lake” gives it more visual material than “nature.”

How do you control composition, lighting, and style?
Describe composition, lighting, palette, and style as separate decisions rather than stacking a long list of contradictory adjectives.
Composition and viewpoint
Use terms such as close-up, medium shot, wide establishing shot, overhead view, low angle, profile view, centered subject, symmetrical composition, and shallow depth of field. If the image will sit beside copy, specify the empty area precisely: “open space on the right for a headline” is more actionable than “leave room for text.” Microsoft’s official documentation recommends adding camera angles and other descriptive details; the Microsoft image-suggestions guidance provides related prompt advice.
Lighting and color
Choose one coherent lighting direction and palette. “Warm golden-hour light” suggests a different result from “soft overcast daylight,” while “neon rim lighting” creates a different visual priority from “high-contrast black and white.” Avoid combining “soft,” “harsh,” “low-key,” and “brightly lit” unless the apparent contradiction is intentional.
Medium and visual language
Name the medium after the scene is clear. Useful choices include editorial photography, watercolor illustration, ink drawing, cinematic concept art, claymation, paper collage, linocut, 3D render, and flat vector poster. Microsoft specifically uses styles such as “digital art” and “photorealistic” in its Image Creator advice.
How do you change image size or aspect ratio in Bing Image Creator?
Choose the format that matches the final use before generating or iterating. The current Bing Image Creator help interface lists square, horizontal, and vertical aspect-ratio options and four-image generation; consult the current Bing Image Creator help page because interface controls can change.
| Format | Good starting use | Prompt addition |
|---|---|---|
| Square | Avatars, profile images, tiles, and compact cards | “Square composition, centered subject, balanced margins.” |
| Horizontal | Banners, presentations, website headers, and landscape scenes | “Horizontal composition, open space on the left for a headline.” |
| Vertical | Posters, mobile-first layouts, and portrait subjects | “Vertical poster composition, full-height subject, clear upper margin.” |
Aspect-ratio selection cannot replace composition instructions. A horizontal setting does not automatically place the subject on the desired side or reserve a clean area for typography, so state the placement and negative space in the prompt as well.
Is DALL-E 3 still used in Bing Image Creator?
Microsoft’s current Bing Image Creator page lists DALL-E 3 as one available model alongside other models, but Bing Image Creator is a changing multi-model service. Do not assume that every Bing generation uses DALL-E 3: check the model selector before comparing results or applying model-specific expectations. Microsoft’s current product page identifies the available model choices.

Model availability and functionality may vary by device, market, and browser version. If the interface exposes a model control, select DALL-E 3 deliberately and record the selection when you are testing prompts. If the interface changes, describe the visible current label rather than relying on an old screenshot.
| What to compare | Why it matters | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt adherence | Shows whether the requested subject, action, and composition survive generation. | Do not claim DALL-E 3 is universally best. |
| Style and photorealism | Different models may suit photographic, illustrative, or graphic work differently. | Do not treat a single sample as a benchmark. |
| Text and lettering | Important for signs, labels, posters, and product mockups. | Do not promise perfect lettering. |
| Format availability | Square, horizontal, and vertical output affect the production workflow. | Do not assume every model or account exposes identical controls. |
| Speed and boosts | Generation capacity and any boost requirement can affect convenience. | No responsible speed or success statistic was found in the reviewed sources. |
| Safety and provenance | Filtering, watermarking, and content credentials matter for publication. | Do not infer that model selection removes service-level restrictions. |
How should you iterate when the first image is close?
Change one or two variables at a time while preserving the successful parts of the prompt. Controlled iteration makes the cause of an improvement easier to identify than replacing the entire prompt after every generation.
- Keep the subject and setting, and change only the camera angle.
- Keep the composition, and change only the lighting.
- Keep the scene, and change only the medium from photorealistic to watercolor.
- Keep the style, and replace an unclear action with a concrete verb.
- Generate the available variations, then inspect each result rather than treating variation as proof that the prompt was followed accurately.
Inspect hands, faces, text, logos, object counts, repeated patterns, and small background details. Microsoft warns that the service may generate inaccurate, incomplete, or incorrect information and that similar creations may be produced for different users. A visually attractive result is not automatically factually or legally reliable.
Why does Bing Image Creator ignore my prompt?
Bing Image Creator commonly appears to ignore a prompt when the request leaves too many visual decisions open, places the key subject after competing style instructions, asks for a difficult layout, or contains conflicting requirements. Simplify the brief, put the subject and action first, and rebuild the scene in priority order.
| Problem | Try this next | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| The result is generic | Add the location, action, time of day, viewpoint, lighting, material, and palette. | More concrete visual information narrows the scene. |
| The subject is wrong | Put the main subject and action at the beginning; remove decorative details temporarily. | The primary scene receives less competition from secondary instructions. |
| The style overwhelms the scene | Describe the subject and composition first, then use one primary medium or style. | A long style list can compete with the scene itself. |
| The layout is wrong | Specify the shot type, orientation, subject placement, and negative space, then choose the matching interface format. | Prompt layout instructions and interface format work together. |
| Unwanted lettering appears | Request no text, generate the artwork, and add verified typography separately. | Separate design-tool typography is safer for important copy. |
| The prompt is blocked | Reframe a legitimate request without attempting to bypass filters, and review Microsoft’s content rules. | Prompt classifiers and content filters are part of the service. |
How do you make realistic images in Bing Image Creator?
Describe the image as a photographic brief: identify the subject and action, choose a camera viewpoint, specify a plausible light source, add a restrained palette, and name “photorealistic” or “editorial photography” as the visual treatment.
For example: Create a close-up editorial photograph of a ceramicist’s hands shaping a blue clay bowl on a worn wooden workbench. Use soft north-window daylight, shallow depth of field, natural skin texture, muted earth tones, and a 50mm eye-level viewpoint. Photorealistic documentary photography, quiet studio mood, no text.
“Photorealistic” is a style instruction, not a guarantee of factual accuracy. Inspect faces, hands, tools, reflections, measurements, labels, and other details before using the result as documentation or a product representation.

How do you make Bing Image Creator generate text correctly?
For important headlines, labels, signs, and product names, the safer workflow is to generate the artwork without text and add verified copy in a separate design tool. Inspect every letter when text is unavoidable; do not assume that a recognizable brand, name, or slogan will be rendered accurately.
Text-heavy image generation can also create legal and factual risks. A logo or product name may be inaccurate, and the presence of a familiar mark does not establish permission to use it. Keep the generated image and the separately typeset copy under human review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat happens if Bing Image Creator blocks a prompt?
Bing Image Creator uses prompt classifiers and content filters to block prompts that could generate potentially harmful images. Do not try to evade the filters. Reframe a legitimate request in a clear, non-harmful way and follow Microsoft’s content rules; repeated violations may lead to temporary or permanent restrictions.
Microsoft’s product and safety information describes the service’s safety behavior. A blocked prompt is not evidence that a workaround is appropriate, and changing spelling or wording solely to defeat a filter is not a safe troubleshooting step.
Can you use Bing Image Creator images commercially?
Bing Image Creator may be useful for creative and personal work, but commercial use is not the same as guaranteed commercial clearance. Review the current terms for the actual service, check third-party rights, obtain consent for identifiable people, preserve provenance signals, and conduct human review before public or commercial use.
Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator and Bing Video Creator Terms of Use dated March 1, 2026 state that Microsoft does not claim ownership of prompts or creations. The same terms also grant Microsoft, its affiliates, and third-party suppliers broad rights to use submitted content in connection with operating their businesses, and they disclaim any guarantee that generated material is free of third-party copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or defamation issues.
Recommended Free Tools
The practical conclusion is narrower than “you own everything”: the user remains responsible for evaluating the legality of subsequent use. Do not remove or alter provenance signals, and do not mislead people about whether an image was AI-generated. Obtain permission before depicting identifiable people in a way that could create privacy or publicity concerns.

Does Bing Image Creator add a watermark or provenance information?
Microsoft says Bing Image Creator identifies generated output as AI-generated and uses a visible watermark plus content credentials based on the C2PA standard. Treat those signals as part of the output’s provenance, not as marks to remove before publication.
The service’s official product and safety page describes the watermark and content credentials. Preserve the signals and disclose the AI origin when the context or applicable rules require it.
A final pre-publication checklist
- Confirm that the intended model, including DALL-E 3 if required, is selected.
- Confirm that the selected format is square, horizontal, or vertical as required by the destination.
- Check the subject, action, setting, lighting, viewpoint, palette, style, and negative space against the brief.
- Inspect hands, faces, text, logos, object counts, repeated patterns, and background details.
- Fact-check any image being presented as a depiction of a real person, place, event, product, or process.
- Keep or respect visible watermarks and C2PA content credentials.
- Review copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, defamation, and consent issues before commercial or public use.
- Read the current Microsoft terms instead of relying on a general claim that AI-generated images are unrestricted.
