Skeb is best understood as a low-friction fan-request service, not a conventional freelance marketplace. You approach a creator you already know, submit a paid request, and let that creator decide whether and how to interpret it. In return for less negotiation and fewer messages, you give up normal expectations about revisions, exact specifications, commercial rights, and guaranteed completion.
Skeb in one sentence
Skeb is a creator-first commission platform built for a simple exchange: a fan sends a paid request to a creator they already know, the creator decides whether to accept it, and the creator delivers an interpretation of that request. It is deliberately not a normal freelance marketplace. You generally do not negotiate a detailed specification, hold meetings, review drafts, request revisions, or purchase broad commercial rights through the standard Skeb model.
That makes Skeb excellent for a personal illustration, voice request, comic, or other one-off work when you trust the creator’s style and are comfortable giving them substantial discretion. It is a poor fit for a logo, advertising asset, VTuber model, deadline-critical campaign, or any project that depends on approvals, milestones, exact file specifications, or a negotiated license.
What Skeb is—and what it is not
Skeb Inc. describes Skeb as a paid-request commission service for fans worldwide, particularly fans commissioning Japanese creators for illustrations and voice data. Its automatic translation is intended to reduce language friction between overseas clients and creators. The creator guidelines describe a wider set of service genres, including artwork, comics, voice, text, video, music, and advice, subject to rules for each category. The company’s official profile says the service was developed in 2018 after its operator was incorporated in 2017, and identifies Kazunari Kida as representative director at a company based in Minato, Tokyo.

Skeb’s scale is substantial, but the figures need careful qualification. The company says that, as of March 2025, Skeb had more than 3.5 million registered users and monthly transaction volume above ¥700 million. Those are company-reported figures, not an independently audited market ranking. Similarly, descriptions such as “one of the world’s largest commission platforms” reflect the company’s positioning; they should not be treated as a verified league table proving that Skeb is definitively Japan’s largest service.
The distinction matters because the word commission covers two very different experiences:
| Conventional freelance marketplace | Skeb’s standard model |
|---|---|
| Client searches listings or posts a job | Client usually already knows the creator they want |
| Scope, price, milestones, and deadline may be negotiated | The request is submitted under the creator’s available commission conditions |
| Meetings, questions, drafts, and revisions are common | Meetings, revisions, and off-platform request discussions are intentionally restricted |
| Deliverables and file specifications are usually contractual | The creator is not required to guarantee a particular format, resolution, composition, or level of completion |
| Commercial or work-for-hire licensing may be negotiated | Copyright generally remains with the creator, with limited client use |
Skeb’s own creator guidance says the service is not intended for jobs requiring meetings or fee plans. The same guidance points people toward more conventional services such as SKIMA or coconala when a project needs that kind of negotiation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow a Skeb request works
- Choose a creator. Skeb restricts general sales and search functions and is designed around a fan approaching a creator whose work they already follow. It is not primarily a directory for comparing anonymous freelancers.
- Send a paid request. The client describes what they would like within the creator’s available service and the platform’s rules. Automatic translation can help with Japanese-English communication, but a translation layer is not a substitute for a clear brief.
- Wait for the creator’s decision. The creator may accept only requests they actually want to make. They can cancel without being required to explain the reason.
- Payment is processed after approval. Under the platform’s terms, the client pays the initial amount when the creator approves the request. Skeb holds the remuneration according to its process, rather than leaving the creator to chase an unpaid client.
- The creator makes and delivers the work. The creator is expected to take the request into consideration as far as possible, but the terms do not promise that every detail will be followed or that the result will meet a particular technical specification.
- There is no normal revision cycle. The platform’s rules prohibit the ordinary back-and-forth associated with a freelance production job. Treat the delivery as the creator’s interpretation, not as a first draft awaiting client corrections.
How to write a better request
A good Skeb request is concise, prioritized, and written for interpretation rather than negotiation. Explain the essential subject, characters, mood, pose, setting, references, and personal-use intention. If some details are optional, label them as optional. Avoid a long list of interdependent instructions that would normally require questions and confirmation.
- Put the non-negotiable subject and emotional direction first.
- Use unambiguous names and provide reference images or links when the service allows them.
- Separate “must include” details from preferences.
- Use simple language because automatic translation may change nuance.
- Do not assume you can clarify a misunderstanding after acceptance.
- Do not assume that requesting a particular resolution, file type, composition, or degree of finish guarantees that result.
The practical rule is to request an idea you would be happy to see interpreted by that artist—not a tightly controlled deliverable that another professional must reproduce exactly.
Deadlines, refunds, and the limits of completion guarantees
Skeb is not a reliable substitute for a production contract when a date matters. If the delivery deadline is missed, Skeb’s creator-facing guidelines say the client is automatically refunded and the creator is not penalized. That protects the client financially, but it does not supply the missing artwork for a launch, event, publication, or advertising campaign.

The terms also make clear that Skeb must not be used as a general money-transfer tool or for fabricated transactions. A request should represent a genuine commission for permitted work. Do not use the platform to send money to a creator with no meaningful creative service expected in return.
Payment and payout: useful protection, but check the live rules
For creators, one of Skeb’s strongest advantages is payment protection. The operator holds remuneration when a request is approved, reducing the risk that a creator spends time on an accepted commission and then has to collect payment from the client. The terms also describe a later “boost” amount handled at the operator’s specified time. Creator fees are deducted from remuneration under the applicable fee schedule; the amount and conditions should be checked in the current account information rather than inferred from older articles.
The English creator guide says withdrawals can work with Japanese bank accounts or Kyash. It describes immediate receipt when the zero-time transfer function is enabled and otherwise says a transfer occurs 24 hours after a withdrawal application. These are not universal promises for every creator or country. Eligibility, transfer fees, identity checks, anti-money-laundering controls, banking support, and available payout methods can change. A creator should rely on the live, account-specific payout screen before accepting work based on a particular withdrawal timeline.
International access therefore has two separate questions: can a fan submit a request, and can a creator receive money under the currently supported payout rules? Skeb advertises requests from overseas fans, but that does not mean overseas creators have exactly the same withdrawal options as creators in Japan.
Copyright stays with the creator
Paying for a Skeb commission does not normally transfer copyright or turn the work into a work-for-hire deliverable. Skeb’s official company information says intellectual-property rights remain with the creator and that creators may repost or republish their work, including in fanzines, without obtaining the client’s permission. The platform’s terms of use define the client’s permitted use more narrowly: personal appreciation and, within the stated rules, use as a social-media profile image.

- put the image on products or sell merchandise;
- use it in advertising, a business website, packaging, or a monetized brand campaign;
- claim exclusive ownership of a character design or illustration;
- hire someone else to substantially adapt it for commercial use; or
- prevent the creator from displaying or republishing the work where the rules permit it.
If commercial usage, exclusivity, merchandising, advertising, ownership, or formal licensing is central to the project, choose a service and contract that explicitly negotiates those rights. Do not try to force commercial terms into a platform designed around personal fan requests.

What can creators offer on Skeb?
The English creator guidelines list these broad genres:
- Artwork and comics: the creator must directly draw the work.
- Voice: the creator must directly vocalize the delivery.
- Text: the creator must directly write it.
- Video: the creator must directly create the video.
- Music: the creator must compose it or possess the necessary rights and permissions.
- Advice: permitted advice requests remain subject to the service’s wider rules.
These labels do not mean that every conceivable request in a genre is allowed. The creator guidelines contain category-specific restrictions, and the creator remains free to reject a request.
AI-generated data and other restrictions
For artwork and comics, the guidelines prohibit delivery of a 3D model, a screenshot, or all or part of data generated by AI. The terms separately prohibit artwork or comic data in which generative AI produced some or all of the data. The safest interpretation is specific: Skeb prohibits generative-AI-generated data in the covered artwork and comic deliveries. That wording should not be expanded into an unsupported claim that every possible form of AI-assisted activity in every genre is treated identically.
The guidelines also identify prohibited practices in other categories, including readings of commercial books, singing, synthesized-voice software other than a voice changer, and NSFW live filming. Creators should read the current rules for their exact genre before listing or accepting a service. A request that appears to be ordinary voice work may still fall into a restricted format.
Skeb’s creator guidance directs projects centered on generative-AI work toward Prompton rather than treating them as ordinary Skeb artwork commissions. That is another sign that Skeb is designed around direct creator production, not as a general-purpose outsourcing channel.
International fans: translation lowers friction, not ambiguity
Skeb advertises automatic translation and says overseas fans can submit requests. Its creator page reports that approximately 35% of clients are from outside Japan. That is a company-supplied statistic, and the page does not turn it into a guarantee that every creator accepts international requests or that every translation will preserve the client’s intended nuance.

For an overseas client, the most important adjustment is to write a request that can survive translation without a conversation. Avoid jokes, idioms, vague references, and culturally specific shorthand unless you explain them. A short, structured request is usually safer than an elaborate paragraph full of implied meaning. Most importantly, automatic translation does not create a revision or clarification stage: the creator may interpret an unclear sentence differently, and the normal Skeb model gives the client no ordinary mechanism for correcting the brief after the work is delivered.

Skeb’s print-and-delivery feature
Skeb is not limited to a digital file. According to the service’s October 31, 2025 announcement, Skeb has offered a print-and-delivery feature since October 2021. It can turn eligible delivered illustrations into physical products shipped to the user’s home. The announcement names framed prints, acrylic mounts, and medium- or large-size tapestries among the products included in a 2025 campaign.
The campaign ran from October 31 through November 30, 2025, so its discount or promotional terms should not be presented as active. The durable point is the underlying fulfillment feature, not the expired offer. Availability, eligible works, product choices, pricing, shipping regions, and ordering windows should be checked inside Skeb when the delivered work becomes eligible.
This is different from buying generic Skeb merchandise. Skeb also operates an official BOOTH storefront with branded items such as a logo can badge. That storefront is a separate branded-goods path; it is not the same thing as ordering a physical display product made from your commissioned illustration.
If you want to display a physical commission, plan around the rights and fulfillment route rather than assuming that any downloaded image can automatically be reproduced commercially. The print feature is operated within Skeb and should not be confused with an independent marketplace merchandise purchase.

Skeb does not require a particular hardware brand. However, creators producing digital illustrations or comics may need a dependable input device, display, and file-production workflow. A Wacom One pen display is one recognizable example of a tool that can support drawing directly on screen; it is an adjacent creator-workstation recommendation, not an official Skeb product or endorsement. The same principle applies to stylus replacements, stands, color-management tools, illustration software, microphones, and headphones for voice work: they may help a creator produce a commission, but Skeb does not endorse a particular brand through the existence of its artwork, voice, video, or music categories. Hardware should solve a real production problem, not be treated as a condition of using the platform.
Who should use Skeb?
Skeb is a good fit if you:
- already follow and trust a particular creator’s style;
- want a one-off personal illustration, comic, voice request, or similar work;
- are happy for the creator to interpret the idea in their own way;
- do not need meetings, progress reports, drafts, or revisions;
- can accept that the creator may decline or cancel;
- do not require commercial rights or exclusive ownership; and
- value a low-message process and the possibility of automatic translation.
Choose a negotiated commission service instead if you need:
- a logo or brand asset requiring approval from several stakeholders;
- commercial illustration, advertising, packaging, or merchandising rights;
- a fully specified VTuber model or other technical production asset;
- a multi-stage comic, animation, video, or music project;
- milestones, meetings, feedback, drafts, or revisions;
- a guaranteed delivery date for a launch or event; or
- a negotiated fee plan, work-for-hire arrangement, or transfer of copyright.
A final decision checklist
Before sending a Skeb request, answer these questions honestly:
- Would I still be satisfied if the creator followed the spirit of my request but changed the composition or omitted a minor detail?
- Can I proceed without a question-and-answer exchange?
- Am I comfortable receiving no revision opportunity?
- Is personal use enough, without advertising, resale, merchandise, or exclusive rights?
- Would an automatic refund after a missed deadline solve my problem, or do I need the finished asset by a fixed date?
- Does the requested medium comply with Skeb’s current genre and AI rules?
- If I am a creator, have I checked my current payout method, fees, eligibility, and withdrawal timing?
If the answers are yes, Skeb’s deliberately narrow workflow can be a refreshing way to commission a creator without turning a fan request into a project-management exercise. If the answers are no, the problem is not that you need to negotiate more forcefully on Skeb; it is that your project belongs on a service designed for negotiation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request revisions on Skeb?
Usually, no. Skeb is designed around a request followed by the creator’s delivery, not a draft-and-revision process. The creator is not required to guarantee every detail, file format, resolution, composition, or level of completion. If revisions are essential, use a negotiated commission service.
Do I own the copyright to a Skeb commission?
Not as a general rule. Copyright and other intellectual-property rights remain with the creator, while the client receives limited permitted use for personal appreciation and, within the stated rules, a social-media profile image. Commercial use, advertising, merchandising, exclusivity, and work-for-hire rights should be negotiated elsewhere.
Can people outside Japan use Skeb?
Skeb advertises overseas requests and automatic translation, but international access for clients is not the same as identical payout access for creators. Creators should check their account-specific withdrawal options, eligibility, fees, and banking requirements before relying on a particular payout method or timeline.
What kinds of commissions are allowed on Skeb?
The guidelines support artwork, comics, voice, text, video, music, and advice, subject to genre-specific rules. Artwork and comics must be directly drawn, and Skeb prohibits covered artwork or comic data generated in whole or in part by generative AI. Other restrictions include certain commercial-book readings, singing, some synthesized-voice software, and NSFW live filming.

According to Skeb’s creator-facing guidelines, a missed delivery deadline triggers an automatic refund for the client and does not penalize the creator. A refund does not provide a replacement asset, so Skeb is a poor choice for a campaign or event with an immovable deadline.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Skeb works best as a low-communication fan commission: you choose a creator, submit a genuine personal request, and accept the creator’s interpretation without revisions or broad commercial rights. Use a negotiated freelance or commission contract when scope, licensing, deadlines, or approvals matter more than simplicity.
