To find a starred design in Canva, open Canva’s home page and select Starred from the left sidebar. If it is not shown there, open Projects, go to Folders, and choose Starred.
Canva’s workspace is periodically redesigned, so the exact location and labels can differ between accounts. The steps below cover the current desktop and mobile layouts, along with what to check if your starred item is missing.
Find starred designs on Canva in a web browser
- Sign in to the Canva account where you saved the design.
- Open the Canva home page.
- If the left navigation is collapsed, expand it.
- Select Starred if it appears directly in the sidebar.
- If you do not see it, select Projects, open Folders, and then choose Starred.
Your starred content should appear there. Select the design you want to reopen and continue editing.

Depending on your account and Canva’s current workspace layout, the Starred area may also contain starred templates, folders, photos, graphics, or other saved content. You may not see exactly the same tabs or groupings shown in another person’s account.
How to find a starred design on the Canva mobile app
- Open the Canva app and go to the home screen.
- Tap the menu icon.
- Look for and select Starred.
If Starred is not visible in the menu, open Projects and check the folders area. You can also open a design and inspect Canva’s content-navigation panels, since the mobile interface can vary by app version, account type, and device.
If the menu still does not appear, close and reopen Canva, make sure the app is updated, and sign in again to the correct account or team.
Finding a starred design versus a starred template
“Starred” is a collection, not necessarily a list of completed designs only. What you find there depends on what you starred. It can include:

- Templates: layouts you want to use again.
- Folders: saved collections of Canva content.
- Brand templates: shared designs highlighted for consistent team use.
- Elements and photos: saved graphics or images, where those options are available in your account.
To reopen your own project, choose the item listed as a design. To reuse a template, select the template and follow Canva’s prompts to create or open a working design. Reusing a template generally does not mean you are editing the original template itself.

Personal Starred versus Starred for Team
If you use Canva with a team, school, campus, or enterprise workspace, you may see two different areas:
- Starred: your personal saved content.
- Starred for Team: content highlighted for other members by team administrators, brand designers, or other authorized workspace managers.
These collections serve different purposes. If a colleague says a design or brand resource has been starred for everyone, check Starred for Team rather than only your personal Starred area. If you saved the design yourself, check your regular Starred collection first.
What to do when Starred is missing
1. Expand Canva’s navigation
A collapsed sidebar can hide the Starred shortcut. Expand the sidebar, then look again. If it is still absent, use the alternative route: Projects → Folders → Starred.
2. Check the correct account and workspace
Canva content is associated with the account and workspace in which it was saved. Confirm that you are using the same email address, personal Canva space, or team workspace. In a team account, switch to the relevant team before searching.
3. Check whether you starred the right kind of content
You may be looking for a completed design when you actually starred a template, folder, photo, graphic, or brand resource. Inspect the available content categories in Starred rather than assuming every saved item is listed as a design.

4. Check Starred for Team
For shared resources, look for Starred for Team. A team-highlighted item may not be part of your personal collection.
5. Search Projects by name
If you remember the design title, use Canva’s project or design search as a fallback. Search is often faster than browsing a large Starred collection, especially when the item was saved in a folder or workspace you do not currently have open.

6. Refresh the mobile app
On mobile, update Canva if an update is available, force-close and reopen the app, and check the home-page menu again. If the feature is still missing, try Canva in a desktop browser to confirm whether the issue is limited to the mobile layout.
How to star a Canva design for easier access later
The exact control can vary by Canva content type and interface version, but the usual method is to open the design’s More or options menu and choose Star or Add to Starred. After saving it, return to the home page and open Starred—or Projects → Folders → Starred—to confirm that it appears.
For a team resource, the available starring or highlighting option may depend on your role and workspace permissions. Team administrators and brand designers may have controls that ordinary members do not.

Why the location keeps changing
Canva has been updating its home page and editor, and the Starred feature can be surfaced differently in different workspace layouts. One account may show Starred as a direct sidebar shortcut, while another may place it under Projects and Folders. The feature itself may be available even when the shortcut has moved.
For that reason, the most reliable navigation pattern is:
Canva home page → Starred
or
Canva home page → Projects → Folders → Starred
For teams with large Canva libraries
Starred is useful for quick access, but it is not a replacement for a clear folder system. Teams can reduce confusion by agreeing on folder names, separating active projects from reusable templates, and identifying which resources belong in the shared team area. If a business has a particularly large or disorganized Canva workspace, optional Canva workspace organization help—such as folder setup, onboarding, training, or an audit—may be worth considering, but it is not required to find a starred design.
