Nano Banana can turn a selfie, pet photo, or original character into a convincing image of a collectible figurine. However, the normal Gemini image workflow creates a 2D render—not a downloadable, printable 3D model. You can use that render as a design reference, then move to an image-to-3D tool or a professional modeler if you want a physical figure to paint and display.
What is Nano Banana?
“Nano Banana” is Google’s product-facing name for a family of Gemini image-generation and image-editing models. It is not a standalone 3D-design application. Gemini can generate images from text and edit uploaded images while attempting to preserve a subject’s identity, clothing, objects, and visual relationships.
Google’s current image-model family includes Nano Banana 2, identified as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, and Nano Banana Pro, identified as Gemini 3 Pro Image. The model available to you depends on the Gemini surface, account, subscription, region, language, and rollout status. See Google’s current Gemini image-generation guidance and Gemini image-model overview for the latest availability.

What you can make
The most successful results treat the subject as a photographed product rather than asking for an abstract “3D effect.” Try a:
- realistic resin statue or painted scale model;
- chibi or vinyl collectible;
- articulated action figure;
- pet or family collectible;
- fantasy, sci-fi, sports, or cosplay character;
- minimalist desk statue or display-cabinet piece.
You can place the figure on a desk, in a glass cabinet, beside accessories, or inside generic blister packaging. A monitor showing a fictional 3D-modeling workflow can reinforce the scene, but it does not mean a model was actually produced.
For publication or commercial work, use original characters and generic packaging. Real logos, branded boxes, copyrighted characters, and recognizable commercial packaging may create intellectual-property issues.

What you need
- Gemini on the web or in the mobile app.
- A clear reference photograph.
- Optional additional images for clothing, hairstyle, pose, or accessories.
- An image-to-3D service or 3D modeler if you want a physical object.
Choose a good reference image
Use a high-resolution photo with even lighting and minimal obstruction. A full-body or three-quarter image is best when the outfit and proportions matter. Keep the face visible if likeness is important, and start with one subject rather than a busy group photo.
Avoid sunglasses, hats, masks, hands covering the face, extreme wide-angle distortion, motion blur, low light, and backgrounds that merge with the clothing. If the interface permits multiple uploads, use a second image to clarify an accessory or outfit detail.
Google supports uploading images and giving natural-language editing instructions, but features and availability vary by country, language, account, and app version. Check the official support page if the controls differ from these instructions.
How to create the figurine image in Gemini
- Open Gemini. Use the Gemini app or the web version and start a new conversation.
- Open the tools menu. Choose Create images. Labels may change as Google updates the interface.
- Upload your reference image. Add the clearest photo you have.
- Enter a specific prompt. Describe the subject, figurine type, material, camera angle, lighting, setting, and packaging.
- Generate the image. Review likeness, anatomy, framing, materials, and any visible text.
- Refine one problem at a time. Keep the composition while correcting a single issue in each follow-up instruction.
- Download the result. If you publish it, identify it as AI-generated where appropriate. If you need a physical figure, continue with the 3D workflow below.
Google’s image-generation overview and its Nano Banana playbook show the same general approach: a generated product-style scene can depict a miniature, packaging, and a real environment without producing a manufacturing asset.

A starter prompt
Use the uploaded reference photo as the identity and design reference. Create a realistic product photograph of a high-quality collectible figurine based on the subject. Preserve the subject’s recognizable face, hairstyle, clothing colors, body proportions, and key accessories. Show the complete figure standing on a small display base on a clean studio desk. Use realistic molded materials, painted details, subtle seams, softbox lighting, shallow depth of field, and a premium toy-photography look. Include a plain display box beside the figure, but do not use real brand names, logos, or copyrighted packaging. Make the image clearly depict a physical miniature photographed in the real world, not a flat illustration.
Why this prompt works
- Identity reference tells Gemini which image should guide the face, hair, clothing, and accessories.
- Collectible figurine establishes the object you want rather than a generic portrait.
- Molded materials and seams add physical cues that make the result look manufactured.
- Studio desk, softbox lighting, and product photograph create believable scale, shadows, and depth.
- Plain packaging and no real logos reduce unwanted branding and legal complications.
Prompt controls for better results
Subject and identity
State exactly what must remain: “Preserve the hairstyle, face shape, clothing colors, shoes, and silver watch. Do not add another person.” Name accessories and describe where they are worn or held.
Figurine type and materials
Choose language that matches your intended look: painted PVC collectible, matte vinyl toy, painted resin statue, articulated action figure, or painted scale model. If you plan to paint a physical print, a resin-statue description may communicate surface detail better than a glossy toy description.
Scale
A phrase such as “1/7 scale” suggests a commercial collectible, but it is primarily a visual instruction. It does not establish physically accurate dimensions unless you also provide a real-world measurement.
Camera and lighting
Try “eye-level three-quarter view,” “50-mm lens look,” “sharp focus on the figure,” “softbox lighting,” “neutral studio background,” “contact shadow under the base,” and “shallow depth of field.” These cues help distinguish a miniature from a flat illustration.

Setting and packaging
Specify whether the figure belongs on a desk, shelf, display case, workshop, or inside a retail box. For safer packaging, request a blank label or a short fictional title and explicitly prohibit real brand names, logos, and trademarked styling. Even Nano Banana Pro’s improved text handling does not make generated packaging lettering reliable; check it manually. Google’s Nano Banana Pro prompting guidance provides further examples.
Useful figurine prompts
Realistic collectible
Turn the uploaded subject into a premium painted resin display statue. Preserve the face, hairstyle, clothing, and recognizable accessories. Show the full figure on a sculpted base on a neutral studio table, with realistic resin texture, carefully painted details, subtle molded seams, contact shadows, and soft product lighting. Use a three-quarter camera angle and no logos or brand names.
Chibi or vinyl toy
Create a cute chibi vinyl collectible based on the uploaded reference. Keep the subject’s hairstyle, main clothing colors, glasses, and distinctive accessories, but use a larger head, simplified features, short proportions, smooth matte vinyl, and a small round base. Photograph it like a real toy on a clean desk.
Pet figurine
Create a hand-painted collectible pet figurine based on the uploaded animal. Preserve its coat pattern, face markings, ear shape, collar, and body proportions. Show the complete miniature on a molded base with realistic painted texture, soft shadows, and a neutral product-photography background.
Fantasy or sci-fi character
Create a premium painted scale-model figurine of the uploaded original character. Preserve the silhouette, hairstyle, armor colors, weapon design, and key accessories. Use molded resin, metallic painted details, a stable display base, dramatic but believable studio lighting, and a three-quarter product view. Do not use existing franchise logos or recognizable commercial character designs.
Boxed collectible
Show the completed figurine inside a generic retail display box beside the unboxed figure on a studio desk. Use a blank front label with one short fictional title in large simple lettering. Include no real logos, tiny writing, or trademarked packaging. Make the box and figure look like a photographed physical product.
Refine the result systematically
Do not rewrite the entire prompt for every failure. Preserve what already works and change one variable per follow-up.
| Problem | Follow-up instruction |
|---|---|
| Face or hairstyle is wrong | “Keep the current composition, but make the face and hairstyle more closely match the uploaded reference. Do not change the outfit, pose, camera angle, or packaging.” |
| Figure is cropped | “Keep the same character and style. Show the entire figure from head to base, with both feet visible and no cropping.” |
| Hands or joints look wrong | “Correct the hands, fingers, feet, and joints. Keep the same pose and clothing. Do not add extra limbs or accessories.” |
| It looks like a person or illustration | “Make it look like a painted resin collectible with molded seams, realistic surface texture, cast shadows, and a contact shadow under the base—not a living person or flat digital illustration.” |
| Clothing or accessories vanished | “Restore the red scarf around the neck and the small camera attached to the right side of the bag. Keep all other details unchanged.” |
| Packaging text is nonsense | “Replace all visible writing with one short fictional title in large, simple lettering. Use no real brand names, logos, or tiny text.” |
| Background is distracting | “Keep the figurine unchanged. Place it on a clean studio desk with a neutral background and soft directional lighting.” |
Nano Banana 2 or Nano Banana Pro?
Nano Banana 2 is positioned as the faster, general-purpose image model. Nano Banana Pro is aimed at more complex instructions, professional image creation, higher detail, and improved text rendering. For a single social-media concept, the faster model may be sufficient. For complicated packaging, several constraints, or polished promotional artwork, Pro may be worth trying if it is available to your account.
Access, quotas, model selection, and subscription requirements can change by plan, region, demand, and interface. Gemini may route an image request to a current model without exposing the same manual selector to every user. Do not assume that a Google AI subscription means unlimited image generation. Consult Google’s model documentation and availability guidance for current details.

Does Nano Banana create a real 3D model?
Usually, no. The ordinary Gemini result is a PNG or similar image showing simulated depth, materials, lighting, and packaging. It does not automatically provide an .STL, .OBJ, or other printable file.
A real printable figure needs complete geometry from multiple views, correct scale, printable topology, adequate wall thickness, supported small parts, and a sliced set of printer instructions. A single image also cannot reliably show the back, underside, or hidden surfaces; an image-to-3D system must invent them.
How to turn the render into a physical figurine
Route 1: Use an image-to-3D service
- Generate a clean front or three-quarter render in Gemini.
- Create additional reference views if possible: front, back, left or right side, and top or three-quarter view.
- Upload those images to an image-to-3D service.
- Generate a base mesh, then inspect the face, hands, clothing, base, and accessories.
- Repair holes, remesh or retopologize the mesh, and sculpt important details.
- Export the required format, such as
.STL,.OBJ, or.FBX. - Set the scale in Blender or your slicer, add supports, and test-print a small version.
Tripo’s image-to-3D workflow includes single-image and multi-view generation, mesh repair, retopology, and tools aimed at 3D-printing workflows. Meshy offers image-to-3D generation and separate credit charges for models with and without textures. Both should be treated as starting points that require inspection, not automatic guarantees of a perfect print.
Route 2: Hire a modeler or printing service
For a gift, a highly recognizable likeness, articulated parts, or a one-off display model, a human modeler or print bureau may be more reliable than repairing several automated meshes. Before ordering, ask:

Troubleshooting the most common failures
- Flat-looking image: add cast shadows, contact shadows, molded seams, specular highlights, surface variation, a real tabletop, and a camera angle that shows depth.
- Wrong face: use a clearer, unobstructed reference, simplify the scene, and request identity preservation before adding packaging or elaborate effects.
- Missing details: name each accessory and describe its exact position. Add another reference image when supported.
- Malformed hands: simplify the pose, enlarge tiny objects, or request a close-up revision.
- Merged people: begin with one subject, or specify exact positions and use a clearer group reference.
- Unexpected logos: request generic packaging and remove remaining branding manually before publication or sale.
- Cannot print the image: remember that a render is not a mesh. Continue through image-to-3D conversion or hire a modeler.
Privacy, copyright, and commercial use
- Upload personal photographs only when you have appropriate permission.
- Avoid sensitive photos and review the account’s current privacy and data settings.
- Do not use a private person’s or celebrity’s likeness in misleading advertising or merchandise without considering consent and applicable law.
- Use original characters and generic packaging when publishing or selling the result.
- Do not assume that AI generation makes a character legally safe to sell. Rights may involve the source photograph, likeness, trademarks, copyrighted designs, and the tool’s current terms.
- Label a generated scene as AI-generated when viewers could mistake it for a real product photograph.
What about cost?
A single figurine image may require no paid upgrade, while repeated generations or access to a higher-end model may depend on a Google AI plan. Exact prices and limits vary by country and can change, so check the country-specific Google subscription page rather than relying on a permanent quota or price claim.
Turning the image into a physical object is a separate expense. Image-to-3D services may use credits, while modeling, printing, painting, shipping, and failed test prints add further costs. Tripo and Meshy publish their current plans and credit structures on their official pricing page and Meshy API pricing documentation.
