Canva can design the appearance of a form, but a normal Canva PDF export is not automatically fillable. Lines, boxes, circles, and text elements are visual artwork unless another tool adds interactive PDF fields. For an online form, embed a service such as Typeform or Jotform in your Canva design. For a downloadable form with clickable fields, export the design and finish it in a PDF form editor such as Jotform Fillable PDF or Adobe Acrobat.

The right method depends on your intended result: a hosted form that stores submissions, or a downloadable PDF that recipients complete and return.
What “fillable” means in Canva
The phrase fillable Canva form describes several different things. They are not interchangeable:

A Canva text box is an editing object for the person designing the file. It does not become a recipient-facing field simply because someone can type into it while the design is open in Canva. Similarly, drawing a square does not create a clickable checkbox.
The current Canva forms guidance promotes online form integrations such as Typeform rather than documenting native AcroForm field authoring inside Canva. Jotform’s current Canva guide describes a two-stage process: design in Canva, export as PDF, then add fields with a separate fillable-PDF tool. Choose the right workflow

Use an online form when you need centralized responses, required fields, validation, conditional questions, payments, automatic confirmations, or integrations. Use a fillable PDF when preserving the exact page layout, supporting offline completion, or sending a document as an email attachment matters more.
Method 1: Embed an online form in Canva
An embedded form is not ordinary Canva text. Canva supplies the surrounding design while Typeform or Jotform supplies the interactive form, submission handling, and response storage.
Option A: Typeform
You need a Canva account, a Typeform account, and at least one active Typeform. Typeform’s official integration documentation says it can embed existing forms, surveys, and quizzes in Canva projects.
- Open the Canva design.
- Select Apps.
- Search for Typeform.
- Select the Typeform app and choose Open.
- Select Connect and approve the access request.
- Search for the Typeform you want to use.
- Select the form.
- Move and resize the embedded form within the design.
- Publish the Canva design.
Follow the current Typeform instructions at Typeform Help. The form is completed through Typeform; it does not turn nearby Canva graphics into input fields.
Option B: Jotform
Jotform’s Canva integration is suited to users who need broader workflow features, including response management, conditional logic, payments, electronic-signature features, and integrations where supported by the selected plan.
- Open the Canva design.
- Select Apps.
- Search for Jotform and open the app.
- Choose a template or select an existing Jotform.
- Connect or create a Jotform account if prompted.
- Add the form to the Canva design.
- Resize and position it.
- Publish the Canva design.
- Review submissions in Jotform’s response-management tools.
Jotform says submissions from forms added to Canva can be collected in Jotform Tables or Jotform Inbox. Its current Canva pages are the integration guide, Jotform for Canva, and the response-management help article.

Publish and test the online form
- Open the published link rather than testing only inside the editor.
- Complete it on a desktop browser and a phone.
- Check required fields and invalid email or numeric input.
- Submit a test response and confirm it appears in the provider’s dashboard.
- Verify the confirmation message, notifications, integrations, and payment behavior if applicable.
- Check what happens after a duplicate submission.
- Confirm that the embedded form appears after publishing, not just in Canva’s editor.
An embedded form may work in a published Canva website or presentation but will not automatically remain interactive in a printed copy, downloaded image, or exported PDF.
Method 2: Create a fillable PDF from a Canva design
Stage 1: Design the static layout
- Open Canva and start with a form template or a blank document.
- Choose the page size and orientation before laying out fields.
- Add a clear label for every requested answer.
- Use lines, rectangles, and lightly shaded areas as visual guides only.
- Leave enough room for the eventual interactive field.
- Keep labels separate from field areas so automatic detection does not confuse them.
- Use high-contrast text, consistent spacing, and readable type.
- For choices, show whether users may select multiple answers or only one.
- Proofread the layout before exporting.
Think of Canva as the visual background layer. The interactive field layer will be added later.

- Select Share.
- Select Download.
- Choose PDF Print for a high-quality source PDF.
- Download the file.
Canva labels can vary by account, device, and interface revision. Exporting as a PDF preserves the page artwork; it does not, by itself, add form metadata.
Route A: Add fields with Jotform Fillable PDF
- Upload the Canva PDF to Jotform’s Fillable PDF tool.
- Use automatic field detection if it is offered.
- Review every detected field.
- Add missing text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns, date fields, or signature areas manually.
- Align each field with its Canva placeholder.
- Set field names and mark fields required or optional as appropriate.
- Preview the form.
- Test it in more than one PDF viewer.
- Download or distribute the finished fillable PDF.
Automatic detection is a starting point, not quality control. It may miss fields, mistake decorative lines for fields, place fields over labels, or choose the wrong field type.
Route B: Add fields with Adobe Acrobat
- Open the PDF in Acrobat.
- Select All tools.
- Choose Prepare a form.
- Select the existing Canva PDF.
- Keep Auto-detect form field enabled if you want Acrobat to scan the document.
- Select Create form.
- Review the detected fields.
- Drag additional fields into place where necessary.
- Edit field properties, including names, appearance, options, and required status.
- Select Preview.
- Exit Preview, correct any problems, and save the PDF form.
Adobe documents support for creating forms from existing PDFs and other source documents, automatic field detection, manual placement, field editing, and preview. Do not confuse Acrobat’s Fill & Sign feature with authoring a reusable form. Fill & Sign helps someone complete or sign an existing PDF; Prepare a form is the authoring workflow for adding reusable fields.

Choose the correct field type
Text fields
Use text fields for names, addresses, email addresses, dates, short answers, and order details. Make the field wide enough for the expected answer, choose single-line or multiline behavior deliberately, set a readable input size, and use a visible label rather than relying only on placeholder text.
Checkboxes
Use checkboxes when respondents may select several independent options. For example, “Which services are you interested in?” can have multiple checked answers. A square drawn in Canva is only a visual cue until a real checkbox field is placed over it.
Radio buttons
Use radio buttons when exactly one answer should be selected, such as a preferred contact method. Do not use independent checkboxes if selecting two answers would create contradictory data.
Dropdowns
Use a dropdown for a long list of mutually exclusive choices, such as a country, department, or appointment time. It keeps the page compact and helps standardize responses.

Date fields
Use a date field when the recipient must provide a date. If the PDF tool does not provide a reliable date picker across your target viewers, include a clear format such as YYYY-MM-DD.
Signature fields
A drawn signature box in Canva is not a signature function. Add a genuine signature field only when the selected tool supports the required workflow. “Signature field,” “electronic signature,” and “legally enforceable digital signature” are not automatically the same, so check the provider’s documentation and the rules applicable to your use case.
Submit buttons
A downloadable PDF does not automatically know where to send its responses. A working submit button may require a connected form service, email configuration, a server endpoint, or a vendor-specific workflow. If reliable centralized collection is the priority, an online form is usually simpler than trying to make a PDF email its contents.
Test the finished fillable PDF
Before sending the file to clients, students, applicants, or event guests, use this checklist:

- Can you tab through fields in a logical order?
- Are all fields visible and aligned with their labels?
- Does typed text fit, or is it clipped?
- Do multiline answers behave as intended?
- Do checkboxes work independently?
- Do radio buttons allow only one selection in each group?
- Do dropdowns contain the correct options?
- Do required fields behave correctly?
- Can you save the entered data and reopen the file?
- Does it work in Adobe Acrobat Reader and a browser PDF viewer?
- Does it work on the phone or tablet your recipients are likely to use?
- Does printing preserve the entered information?
- Are signature and submission instructions accurate?
Test the actual distribution channel. A file that works in Acrobat may behave differently in a browser preview, mobile viewer, or third-party PDF application.

“People still cannot type into my PDF.”
You probably exported a static Canva PDF without adding interactive fields. Reopen it in Jotform Fillable PDF, Acrobat’s Prepare a form tool, or another PDF form editor and place fields over the visual placeholders.
“The detected fields are in the wrong places.”
Delete or move them manually. Keep labels outside the intended field area, simplify decorative lines, and inspect every page after auto-detection.
“The field covers my Canva artwork.”
Adjust the field’s background and border appearance where supported. A field with an opaque fill can obscure labels or design elements beneath it.
“The typed text is cut off.”
Increase the field size, reduce the input font size, enable multiline behavior for longer answers, or change the prompt so the expected response is shorter.
“The form works in one viewer but not another.”
This is a compatibility problem, not proof that the form is universally functional. Test the viewers your recipients use, simplify advanced features when necessary, and provide clear instructions about the recommended PDF application.

“The form is too large to email.”
Compress a copy for distribution only if compression does not damage readability or field behavior. Otherwise share it through a secure file link and explain how recipients should return it.
“I expected responses to appear in a dashboard.”
A fillable PDF is primarily a document. It does not automatically centralize submissions. Use Typeform or Jotform when you need a response dashboard, structured exports, notifications, integrations, or payment handling.

“My free plan ran out.”
Free integrations and free form-builder plans can still have submission, storage, form-count, feature, or branding limits. Review the provider’s current plan before distributing a high-volume form.
Online form or fillable PDF?
Choose an online form for registrations, RSVPs, lead capture, surveys, orders, payments, conditional questions, automatic confirmations, CRM or spreadsheet connections, and high-volume response management. It is generally better for mobile completion and structured data.
Choose a fillable PDF for applications, worksheets, client intake documents, printable-and-digital forms, fixed-layout documents, offline completion, or workflows where recipients must return an attachment.
PDFs can be less convenient on phones, behave inconsistently across viewers, and provide weaker centralized response handling. Online forms require third-party hosting and may not reproduce every detail of the Canva layout. Decide based on the workflow, not merely on which output looks more attractive.

A polished design is not automatically an accessible form. Use clear labels, adequate contrast, logical reading order, keyboard-friendly fields, sufficient field size, and meaningful names. Check how the chosen PDF tool handles tab order and screen readers. For an online form, test the published experience with keyboard navigation and a mobile screen reader where relevant.
Do not choose a free plan by default for medical, financial, legal, identity, student, or other sensitive information. Review the vendor’s data-processing terms, retention controls, access permissions, encryption, data residency, and compliance options for the specific plan and region. Avoid blanket claims that any integration is secure or compliant without checking those details.
Cost and plan considerations
Prices, plan limits, app availability, and interface labels change. The following signals were checked in August 2026 and should be rechecked before purchase:
- Jotform’s displayed Starter plan included 5 forms, 100 monthly submissions, 100 MB storage, and Jotform branding.
- The same Jotform pricing page displayed Bronze at $34 per month billed annually, Silver at $39 per month billed annually, and Gold at $99 per month billed annually.
- Typeform’s Canva integration requires a Typeform account and at least one active form; consult Typeform’s current pricing page instead of relying on an old tier summary.
- Jotform says its Canva integration is available across Canva plans and does not require Canva Pro, but the form provider’s limits and premium features still apply.
Currency, taxes, billing cycles, geography, promotions, branding, storage, and submission allowances can change the actual cost.

Use Canva alone for a visual or printable form. Use Canva plus Typeform for a polished online survey or lead-capture experience. Use Canva plus Jotform when you need broader workflow features such as payments, signatures, templates, or response management. Use Jotform Fillable PDF for a straightforward Canva-to-fillable-PDF bridge, or Adobe Acrobat when you need detailed professional PDF field control.
