Blender 4.0.2 was released on December 5, 2023, as a corrective update addressing 41 issues—not as a feature release. Blender recommends the latest stable release for general use and production; 4.0.2 is not among the LTS versions currently listed as maintained. Blender 4.0 features versus 4.0.2 fixes
Blender 4.0 was the major feature release. It introduced changes including a new Principled BSDF shader, the AgX view transform, light linking in Cycles, Node Tools and repeat zones in Geometry Nodes, a new Snap Base, animation curve editing operators, and bone collections. These were Blender 4.0 changes, not features added by the 4.0.2 patch.

Is Blender 4.0.2 still supported?
Blender 4.0.2 remains available to download, but availability does not mean it is actively maintained. Blender says regular releases are supported until the next release arrives; its current LTS page lists Blender 5.2 LTS and Blender 4.5 LTS as maintained versions. Blender’s release guidance recommends using the latest stable release for general use and production.
For a project that must remain on 4.0.2, treat that as a compatibility decision, not a general recommendation. Check the project’s add-ons, files, render setup, operating system, and studio pipeline before changing versions.

Which Blender version should you use?

Should you upgrade from Blender 4.0.2?

Before upgrading an established project, test a copy and check whether its add-ons, files, render setup, and pipeline work as expected. The official release guidance cannot determine compatibility for an individual setup.

Is Blender 4.0.2 still supported?
