Microsoft’s Pantone Color of the Year 2022 is a free Windows theme distributed through the Microsoft Store. It includes four Windows Bloom wallpapers built around Pantone PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, a periwinkle blue with violet-red undertones.
The theme was announced in December 2021, so “new” refers to its original launch—not a new 2026 Microsoft release. If the listing is available in your region, you can install it officially without downloading an installer from a third-party wallpaper site.

What is included in the Pantone Very Peri Windows theme?
The theme is a compact Windows personalization package, not a complete operating-system redesign or a Pantone color-management application. Microsoft’s package primarily provides:
- Four custom desktop wallpapers.
- Windows Bloom artwork recolored around Very Peri.
- Theme-associated dark and indigo-oriented presentation.
It does not promise to recolor every Windows control, installed application, icon, cursor, sound, browser, or Office interface. Microsoft’s broader Very Peri collaboration also involved products such as Edge, Teams, and PowerPoint, but that does not mean installing this Windows theme modifies all of those products. What is Pantone Very Peri?
PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year. Pantone describes it as a dynamic blue with violet-red undertones and said it was the first color custom-created for the Color of the Year program. Those descriptions express Pantone’s intended character and symbolism; they should not be treated as objective technical properties or as a guarantee that every monitor will display an identical shade.
The Windows theme is also not Pantone certification, a monitor-calibration profile, or a way to reproduce an exact printed color across every screen. Display panels, color profiles, brightness, scaling, and operating-system settings all affect how the wallpapers appear. Pantone’s separate tools and color-system information serve a different purpose.

How to download the theme from Microsoft
- Open the official Microsoft Store listing for Pantone Color of the Year 2022.
- Select Get, Install, or the equivalent button Microsoft displays for your browser, region, or Windows version.
- If prompted, allow the page to open in the Microsoft Store app.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if the Store requests one.
- Wait for the theme to download and install.
- Open Windows theme settings and select Pantone Color of the Year 2022.
The Store listing is the safest official download source. Avoid executable “theme installers,” repackaged files, and wallpaper mirrors that claim to provide the same package.

How to apply it in Windows 11 or Windows 10
On both supported versions, themes are managed from Windows Personalization settings.
Windows 11
Open Settings → Personalization → Themes, then select Pantone Color of the Year 2022.
Windows 10
Open Settings → Personalization → Themes, then choose the installed Pantone theme.

If the theme does not appear immediately, close and reopen Settings. You can also restart the Microsoft Store app or restart Windows, then check the Themes page again. The title may appear in a localized form depending on your Windows language and Store region.

Can you use only the wallpapers?
Yes. After installation, open Settings → Personalization → Background and choose a background independently rather than keeping the complete theme selection.
Using an individual wallpaper may not preserve every associated theme setting. You can separately adjust Windows’ appearance under Settings → Personalization → Colors, including light or dark mode and the accent color. Installing the theme does not permanently force every Windows application into a Very Peri interface.

Microsoft introduced the theme for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It is therefore best described as listed for Windows 10 and Windows 11, not guaranteed for every edition, build, managed device, or future servicing state.
The official Store listing remains discoverable, but Store presentation and installation can vary by country, account, Windows configuration, and Microsoft’s catalog status. A visible listing does not guarantee that the package can be installed everywhere.

The Store page will not open
- Try opening the listing in another supported browser.
- Open the Microsoft Store app directly and search for Pantone Color of the Year 2022.
- Confirm that the device is running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Sign in if the Store requests a Microsoft account.
The listing cannot be found or installed
The package may not be available in your region, or the Store catalog may have changed since the original 2021 release. Microsoft Store errors, account state, and organizational policies can also block installation. On a work or school PC, the Microsoft Store may be disabled by an administrator.

Do not substitute an unknown download mirror or an executable installer. If the theme is unavailable through Microsoft’s Store, there is no need to risk an unofficial package.
The theme installs but is missing from Themes
Close and reopen Settings, restart the Store app, and restart Windows if necessary. Search Themes for the localized title rather than only the English name. Also check whether your organization restricts personalization controls.
The theme applies but the colors look different
That is expected across different displays and configurations. Resolution, aspect ratio, scaling, color profiles, brightness, and multiple-monitor arrangements can change the wallpaper’s appearance. Windows’ light/dark mode and accent color are separate settings and may need to be adjusted manually.
Is this theme still worth installing?
For anyone who wants coordinated Very Peri desktop wallpapers from an official Microsoft source, it remains a simple, free option—provided the Store listing is available and installs successfully. It is a four-image Windows Bloom theme, not a system-wide Pantone workflow or a full recoloring of Windows and every application.
Because it was released in December 2021, it may feel dated to readers seeking a current Color of the Year release. But for the specific Very Peri look, the official Microsoft Store listing is the appropriate place to start.
