Depending on your device and software version, you may also start from Samsung Notes, Gallery, Air command, or the Edge panel. A Samsung account is required, Creative Studio needs a network connection, and generated images carry an AI watermark.

Before you start
- Check your exact model: Galaxy AI support does not guarantee that every Drawing Assist workflow is available. Review Samsung’s Drawing Assist compatibility and requirements and its feature-specific AI Select list.
- Update your software: Samsung’s U.S. support page describes Drawing Assist support on selected devices running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 through Android 16 with One UI 8.0. This does not mean every entry point is supported on every device; labels and availability vary by model, region, carrier, and release.
- Sign in to a Samsung account and connect to the internet. Samsung says Creative Studio needs a network connection.
- Use a finger or compatible S Pen: An S Pen can provide more precise sketching, but it is optional. Check Samsung’s official S Pen compatibility page for device-specific support.
Method 1: Create a doodle in Creative Studio
- Turn on Creative Studio (Drawing Assist) in Settings > Galaxy AI > Creative Studio, if that setting is available on your device.
- Open Creative Studio from the Edge panel. On supported S Pen models, it may also be available through Air command. If the Edge panel is hidden, enable it through Settings > Display > Edge panels.
- Choose Create image, then Sketch.
- Draw your doodle and tap Done. Samsung’s guide says you may also add text instructions after adding a sketch.
- Choose a style and, where offered, an aspect ratio. Tap Generate.
- Review the results and use the available options to save, share, copy, edit, or generate more.
Results can vary between generations, so treat this as a creative transformation rather than exact tracing.

Do not assume all of these entry points are available on every Galaxy device. Samsung’s One UI 8 feature guide describes some newer workflows.
Styles and drawing tips
Samsung’s U.S. instructions list Watercolor, Illustrations, Pencil sketch, 3D cartoon, and Pop art. The available styles can vary by device and software.

- Make the subject clear and easy to recognize.
- Use a simple sketch and show the approximate position, size, and orientation.
- For a photo, draw where you want the object to appear and avoid crossing important details.
- Use the available undo or eraser controls to remove confusing lines.
- Try another generation or style if the first result does not fit.
Samsung says output accuracy and reliability are not guaranteed. The tool may reinterpret a sketch rather than reproduce it precisely.
Saving and sharing results
Review the generated options and use the available save, share, copy, or edit controls. In Gallery, save the generated version as a copy when that option is available to preserve the original photo. Samsung says saved images show a visible AI watermark.
Why Drawing Assist or Sketch to image is missing
- Install available system, Gallery, Samsung Notes, and related Samsung app updates.
- Confirm that your exact model appears on the relevant feature-specific support list, not just Samsung’s general Galaxy AI page.
- Check your Android and One UI versions.
- Sign in to a Samsung account and check your internet connection.
- Look for the labels Drawing Assist, Creative Studio, and Sketch to image; labels vary by version.
- Check Settings > Galaxy AI > Creative Studio for an available setting.
- For photo editing, look in Gallery for Photo Assist. For screen selection, check the Edge panel for AI Select or Smart Select.
- Restart the app or device after updating.
Samsung’s device and software support is selective; a Galaxy device may support some Galaxy AI features but not every Drawing Assist workflow.

If generation fails or looks wrong
Check that your Samsung account is signed in and your internet connection is working. Confirm that your device and software support the workflow, then retry with a simpler sketch. If a result is inaccurate, adjust the sketch or choose another style and generate again.
Privacy, cost, and use
Samsung says drawings are sent to a server to provide the feature and that it does not store the transmitted data. A Samsung account and, for Creative Studio, a network connection are required. Avoid using sensitive images unless you are comfortable with the applicable terms. Generated images carry a visible AI watermark.

FAQ
Do I need an S Pen to use Drawing Assist?
No. Samsung shows drawing with a finger as well as an S Pen. An S Pen is optional and can make sketching more precise on supported devices.
Can I use Drawing Assist on any Galaxy phone?
No. Samsung supports the feature on selected devices and software versions. Check the exact model and the specific entry point you want to use.
Can I turn a Gallery photo into an image with a doodle?
On supported devices, open the photo in Gallery, use Photo Assist, and choose Create or Sketch to image if that option is available. Draw on the photo and generate the result.

No. Samsung does not guarantee output accuracy or reliability. The generated image may reinterpret your drawing, and results can vary.
Does Samsung store my drawing?
Samsung says drawings are sent to a server for processing and that it does not store the transmitted data. Check Samsung’s applicable terms for your region and avoid sending sensitive images if you are not comfortable with them.
