Adobe MAX 2024’s defining announcement was Firefly’s move into video. At the event, which opened in Miami Beach on October 14, 2024, Adobe also introduced major Photoshop and Illustrator updates, Premiere Pro generative-video tools, Frame.io V4, Adobe Express workflows, and enterprise products for scaling branded content.
Adobe said it announced more than 100 Creative Cloud features. The practical significance was broader than “AI everywhere”: Firefly was being positioned as a production layer across image editing, vector design, video, collaboration, and enterprise content operations.

The short version
- Firefly Video Model: Adobe previewed text-to-video and image-to-video generation in limited public beta.
- Premiere Pro: Generative Extend could add frames to the beginning or end of a clip and extend audio for smoother edits.
- Photoshop: Distraction Removal became available, while Generative Workspace entered beta.
- Illustrator: Objects on Path, Enhanced Image Trace, Generative Shape Fill, Generative Recolor, and Text to Pattern expanded vector workflows.
- Frame.io V4: The collaboration platform received a new metadata system, Collections, improved review tools, and broader Camera to Cloud integrations.
- Enterprise: GenStudio for Performance Marketing became generally available, alongside Firefly Services, Bulk Create, Dubbing and Lip Sync, and Custom Models.
The most important distinction is availability. Some features were generally available at MAX 2024; others were beta releases, limited betas, previews, or research demonstrations.

Firefly entered video
Adobe’s Firefly Video Model was the event’s headline announcement. It introduced two related workflows:
- Text to Video: Generate short video clips from written prompts, with controls for shot size, camera angle, motion, and zoom.
- Image to Video: Animate a still image or illustration into a video clip.
Adobe presented these tools for ideation, placeholder footage, B-roll, visualizing expensive scenes before production, and filling small gaps in an edit. The model was not presented as a way to create an entire finished production without editorial work.
The Firefly Video Model was in limited public beta at MAX. Adobe said generations were free during that limited beta and had not announced final video pricing when the model left beta. See Adobe’s Firefly Video Model announcement and its video-generation explanation.

What “commercially safe” meant
Adobe said Firefly models were designed around licensed and public-domain training material and positioned the system for commercially oriented use. That is Adobe’s stated policy and positioning, not an independent legal guarantee or audit.
“Commercially safe” does not mean every output is automatically free of legal risk. Users still need to consider trademarks, likeness rights, privacy, contracts, client approvals, jurisdiction-specific rules, and whether a result is sufficiently original or accurate for its intended use. Nor should the claim automatically be extended to every third-party model accessible through Adobe.
The limits of generative video
Generative video remains most useful when the creative requirement is flexible. A generated insert may struggle to match the lighting, lens, grain, motion, wardrobe, character, or prop continuity of production footage. Temporal inconsistencies, unstable hands and faces, distorted text or logos, and unsuitable camera movement can require substantial cleanup.
Adobe’s own use cases point to the sensible boundary: use Firefly Video for exploration and targeted editorial problems, rather than assuming it can replace a controlled shoot or deliver a complete, continuity-critical sequence.

Photoshop moved from isolated edits toward ideation
Photoshop’s most practical new tool was Distraction Removal. It could identify and remove common unwanted elements such as people, wires, and cables, reducing the need to make a precise selection before beginning cleanup.
Adobe also introduced Generative Workspace in beta. Rather than treating generative AI as a single prompt attached to an already finished canvas, Generative Workspace was designed for brainstorming, exploring multiple concepts, and iterating with Firefly before settling on a composition. Strategically, that was more significant than another one-click retouching feature: it suggested that Adobe wanted AI to participate in the early stages of visual development.
Photoshop also moved several Firefly Image 3 features to general availability:
- Generative Fill
- Generative Expand
- Generate Similar
- Generate Background
A beta integration with Substance 3D Viewer brought editable 3D Smart Objects into Photoshop compositions. Adobe also highlighted OCIO Configuration and improvements to 32-bit HDR workflows, showing that the release was not limited to generative features.

Illustrator added controlled vector generation
Illustrator’s AI direction was more constrained than simply generating finished artwork. Adobe focused on vector content that could remain part of a production design workflow.
- Objects on Path: Attach, arrange, and move objects along any path.
- Enhanced Image Trace: Convert raster artwork into editable vectors with improved speed and accuracy.
- Generative Shape Fill: Generate detailed vector content inside a shape from a text prompt; this was a beta feature.
- Generative Recolor: Explore color variations using Firefly Vector Model capabilities.
- Text to Pattern: Generate pattern variations for design work.
- Project Neo integration: Bring work from Adobe’s web-based 3D design environment into Illustrator.
Adobe also highlighted non-AI improvements including PDF export, resized artboards, live shapes, quick gradient creation, and performance enhancements. For many designers, these conventional workflow changes may save more time than experimental generation tools.

Premiere Pro combined generative editing with performance work
Generative Extend was the main Firefly-powered Premiere Pro feature. It could add frames to the beginning or end of an existing clip to cover a small edit, smooth a transition, or hold a shot slightly longer. It could also extend audio to create room tone for a cleaner edit.

It is intended to solve timing and continuity gaps in existing footage. Text-to-video and image-to-video generation were associated with Firefly, while Generative Extend was delivered through the Premiere Pro beta at the time of the announcement.
Premiere Pro also received generally available performance and interface improvements. Adobe advertised exports as up to three times faster, but that is Adobe’s comparison, not an independent benchmark applicable to every system. Actual results depend on hardware, codecs, media, effects, and workflow. A new context-sensitive Properties panel was also introduced.
Selected Firefly-powered outputs included Content Credentials, but this should not be read as a claim that every AI output carried identical metadata.

Frame.io V4 addressed the production bottleneck after capture
Frame.io V4 became available to all customers at MAX 2024. Unlike Firefly Video, its importance was operational rather than generative: it focused on organizing assets, collecting feedback, and moving projects through review and approval.
Major changes included:
- A new metadata model and custom metadata fields.
- Collections, automatically updating smart folders for organizing assets.
- Improved asset management and review-and-approval workflows.
- Frame-accurate playback and high-resolution scrubbing previews.
- Improved comments, annotations, comparison views, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Redesigned iOS and iPad applications.
- General availability of the Frame.io-to-Lightroom connection.
- Expanded Camera to Cloud partnerships involving Canon, Nikon, and Leica.
For agencies, production companies, and distributed creative teams, these changes could be more immediately useful than experimental video generation. They target the handoff between camera, editor, reviewer, approver, and final delivery. Adobe’s Frame.io V4 announcement provides the product details.

Express, InDesign, and Lightroom extended the workflow
Adobe Express received broader Firefly-powered creation and workflow improvements aimed at marketers and non-specialist content creators. Adobe positioned Express as a handoff layer between professional design work and fast content adaptation.
InDesign documents could be exported to Adobe Express so collaborators could make limited edits while retaining the overall layout. Lightroom was also part of Adobe’s 2024 AI-led product story, including Generative Remove. These integrations mattered because they connected specialist applications with the people responsible for adapting approved creative into campaign content.

Adobe’s enterprise announcements were aimed at organizations that need to plan, create, adapt, approve, activate, and measure large volumes of branded content.
GenStudio for Performance Marketing
GenStudio for Performance Marketing became generally available. Adobe described it as part of an end-to-end content supply chain, connecting planning, creation, management, activation, and measurement.
Firefly Services
Firefly Services added enterprise-facing APIs and workflow tools. The goal was to bring generation and content transformation into existing production systems rather than requiring every asset to be created manually in a consumer-facing interface.
- Bulk Create: A beta workflow for high-volume operations such as resizing and background removal.
- Dubbing and Lip Sync: A beta feature for translating spoken dialogue while retaining original voice characteristics and matching lip movements.
- Custom Models: Brand-oriented models and controlled content-production workflows.
For enterprise buyers, the question was therefore not only whether a model could make an attractive image. It was whether the organization could scale variations while preserving brand rules, approvals, and operational control.

Adobe Research describes MAX Sneaks as in-development technologies shown for the first time. They should not be included in a list of tools available for production at the event.
What Adobe’s MAX strategy revealed
Adobe’s strategy had four connected parts.
- Put AI inside existing applications. Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Frame.io remained the working environments. Firefly was intended to reduce friction without removing the professional editing layer.
- Keep generation controllable. Vector fills, background replacement, image expansion, and clip extension are narrower than asking a model to produce an entire finished campaign. They fit into workflows where a human can select, revise, reject, and combine results.
- Provide provenance signals. Content Credentials were used with selected Firefly-powered features, supporting transparency about aspects of an asset’s creation. Provenance metadata is useful, but it does not by itself guarantee accuracy, originality, or legal safety.
- Scale from individual creators to enterprises. GenStudio, Firefly Services, Bulk Create, Custom Models, and translation tools addressed the operational challenge of producing many on-brand variations.
Adobe also reported that Firefly had generated more than 13 billion images since March 2023 and described Firefly Image 3 generation as up to four times faster than its predecessor. Both are Adobe-reported figures, not independent usage or performance studies.
What can readers consider in 2026?
The historical MAX announcement should not be confused with today’s plan structure. Availability, credits, pricing, and feature names can change after a beta period. The following U.S. price signals were checked on August 18, 2026; regional taxes, billing terms, promotions, eligibility, and later changes may affect the actual price.
- Creative Cloud Pro: Adobe’s plans page showed US$99.99 per month on an annual plan billed monthly. It includes more than 20 Creative Cloud applications, Acrobat Pro, and Firefly creative AI. This is the broadest fit for professionals who need Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign, and related tools.
- Creative Cloud Standard: The listed signal was US$54.99 per month on an annual plan billed monthly. Verify current generative-credit and feature limits before subscribing.
- Photography plan: The listed signal was US$19.99 per month on an annual plan billed monthly, including Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and 1 TB of storage. It is a better fit for photographers than for designers or editors who need the wider suite.
- Firefly Standard: The listed signal was US$9.99 per month with 2,000 generative credits.
- Firefly Pro: The listed signal was US$19.99 per month with 4,000 generative credits.
- Firefly Pro Plus: The regular listed price was US$49.99 per month with 10,000 monthly credits. A first-year offer of US$34.97 was displayed when checked and was shown as ending August 26, 2026.
- Firefly Premium: The regular listed price was US$199.99 per month with 50,000 monthly credits and unlimited access to the Firefly Video Model according to Adobe’s comparison page. A first-year offer of US$139.91 was displayed when checked.
See Adobe’s Creative Cloud plans, Firefly plans, and Photography plan pages for current terms. A current subscription should not be assumed to provide every feature exactly as demonstrated at MAX 2024.
Teams considering the collaboration side of MAX should also review Frame.io’s current product and plan information rather than relying on the 2024 V4 structure or pricing.
Bottom line
Adobe MAX 2024 was significant because it connected generative AI to the full creative pipeline. Firefly Video attracted the most attention, but the broader release was just as important: Photoshop became more exploratory, Illustrator more capable with controlled vector generation, Premiere Pro more flexible for small editorial fixes, and Frame.io more useful as a production-management system.
The safest way to understand the event is to separate the mature workflow improvements from the experimental AI previews. For everyday professionals, Distraction Removal, Image Trace, Objects on Path, faster exports, metadata, review tools, and collaboration may deliver more dependable value than beta generation. For agencies and enterprises, the larger promise was scalable, brand-aware content production—not one-click replacement of creative judgment.
