Blender 4.5.4 is a maintenance release in the Blender 4.5 LTS series, released on October 29, 2025. It focuses on bug fixes and compatibility corrections rather than new modeling, painting, animation, or rendering features. A contemporaneous release report says it addressed 63 issues since Blender 4.5.3.
It remains the right choice when a project, add-on, render farm, or reproducibility requirement specifically calls for version 4.5.4. For a new installation, however, use the latest stable Blender release—or the newest maintained 4.5.x build if your studio is standardized on Blender 4.5 LTS.

What is Blender 4.5.4?
Blender is a free, open-source 3D creation suite for modeling, sculpting, texturing, painting, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing, and video editing. Blender 4.5.4 belongs to the Blender 4.5 LTS branch.
The “.4” identifies a corrective point release. Blender 4.5 introduced the major feature set; 4.5.4 primarily improves the reliability of that existing feature set by fixing regressions, crashes, file-format behavior, build problems, and workflow bugs.
Release date and LTS status
Blender 4.5.4 was released on October 29, 2025, alongside Blender 4.2.15 LTS. The release announcement describes it as part of the Blender 4.5 LTS series and reports 63 issues addressed since Blender 4.5.3. See the release report and Blender’s release dashboard.
LTS describes the 4.5 branch, not a separate feature edition. Point releases such as 4.5.4 are maintenance updates within that branch. If your team needs Blender 4.5 but does not require the exact 4.5.4 executable, the usual preference is the newest available 4.5.x maintenance release.

Blender 4.5.4 should not be presented as the current Blender release. Later 4.5.x builds, including references to 4.5.8 and 4.5.10, exist in Blender’s release ecosystem. Check Blender’s release page before choosing a version today.
What changed in Blender 4.5.4?
The release is a corrective update, not a feature release. Selected fixes include:
| Area | Correction |
|---|---|
| Build system | Fixed a Blender 4.5.3 compilation failure involving OpenColorIO 2.5.0. |
| OpenEXR | Improved reading of channel names in complete multipart files. |
| File and path compatibility | Added forward compatibility for Blender 5.0 path names. |
| Rendering | Fixed an invalid-address problem when rendering with a custom camera. |
| UV Editing | Fixed Lock Pinned Islands not working during UDIM packing. |
| Armatures | Corrected display-type behavior during armature symmetrize operations. |
These are representative fixes, not the complete changelog. Consult Blender’s official Blender 4.5 LTS corrective-release notes for the full list.

Where to download Blender 4.5.4
Use Blender’s own archive rather than a third-party “old version” download site:
- Start with the Blender 4.5 LTS page.
- If 4.5.4 is no longer shown there, check Previous Versions.
- You can also browse the official Blender 4.5 release archive.
- Select the build matching your operating system and CPU architecture.
- Verify the checksum when Blender supplies one.
- Install or extract it into a separate directory instead of overwriting a working production version.
- After launching, confirm the version under Help → About Blender.
Avoid unofficial repackaged installers, random mirror pages, unverified torrents, and daily builds when you need production stability.
Choose the correct build
- Windows: Windows x64 installer or portable ZIP; Windows ARM64 installer or portable build where appropriate.
- macOS: Apple Silicon for M-series Macs; Intel for Intel Macs.
- Linux: Official Linux x64 archive or a distribution package only when its exact version matches your project requirement.
Archived listings indicate that Blender 4.5.4 was available for Windows, Linux, macOS Intel, and macOS Apple Silicon. An Intel build does not guarantee that every Intel Mac is supported: macOS version, GPU, Metal support, and workload still matter.
System requirements and compatibility
The following guidance comes from Blender’s published requirements for the relevant generation. Exact behavior can vary with the operating system, GPU driver, render engine, and workload; minimum requirements are not performance guarantees.
| Platform | Minimum guidance | Recommended guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 8.1 64-bit; 4-core CPU with SSE4.2; 8 GB RAM; GPU with 2 GB VRAM and OpenGL 4.3 | Windows 10 or 11; 8-core CPU; 32 GB RAM; 8 GB VRAM |
| macOS | macOS 11.2 Big Sur; Apple Silicon or Intel; 8 GB RAM; Metal 2.2-capable GPU | macOS 14 Sonoma; Apple Silicon; 32 GB RAM |
| Linux | 64-bit distribution with glibc 2.28 or newer; 4-core CPU with SSE4.2; 8 GB RAM; GPU with 2 GB VRAM and OpenGL 4.3 | 8-core CPU; 32 GB RAM; 8 GB VRAM |
Blender recommends a 1920×1080 display and a three-button mouse for the general workflow. Cycles GPU rendering has additional vendor-specific requirements. Check the official requirements page for current platform details.

Should you install Blender 4.5.4?
| Your situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| A production project is locked to exactly 4.5.4 | Use 4.5.4 and avoid an untested patch-level upgrade mid-project. |
| You need the Blender 4.5 LTS branch but not a specific patch | Use the newest maintained 4.5.x release. |
| You are installing Blender for the first time | Use the latest stable Blender release. |
| An add-on explicitly supports only 4.5.4 | Test 4.5.4 in an isolated installation. |
| You must reproduce an older render or simulation | Use the exact Blender version used to create it. |
| You want to test upcoming features | Use an experimental build separately from production. |
The central trade-off is simple: 4.5.4 offers exact reproducibility, while a later stable build offers more accumulated fixes. Do not update a studio pipeline solely because a newer version exists, but do not choose 4.5.4 for a new project merely because it is an LTS point release.
Installing it beside another Blender version
Blender can run from an extracted folder, so multiple versions can coexist. This is useful for comparing files, testing add-ons, and preserving a known-good render environment.

Add-ons and Python scripts
Add-on compatibility is specific to the add-on, not guaranteed by Blender’s version number. A failed add-on may reflect Python API changes, an unsupported Blender release, a missing dependency, or a different user-configuration directory.

Opening and saving .blend files
Blender aims for forward compatibility, but compatibility is not absolute. Opening a 4.5.4 file in a newer major version can update data or change behavior. Newer features may not exist when a file is opened in an older version.
Save a copy before opening a production file in a newer Blender. Validate geometry nodes, shaders, color management, compositing, linked assets, add-ons, and output paths before overwriting the original. The 4.5.4 path-name correction improves a specific area of forward compatibility with Blender 5.0; it does not make all 4.5.4 and 5.0 workflows interchangeable.
Render and simulation reproducibility
Matching Blender versions does not by itself guarantee identical output. Results can change because of GPU drivers, render backends, shader compilation, color-management settings, add-ons, dependency-graph behavior, or invalidated simulation caches.
Before changing versions, render a known test frame and record the render engine, device, samples, denoising, color management, output settings, linked assets, and cache locations. Preserve the original caches before rebuilding them.
Post-install verification checklist
- Confirm the version in Help → About Blender.
- Check that the intended GPU is detected.
- Open a representative painting, modeling, or animation file.
- Test Eevee and Cycles CPU rendering if they are part of your workflow.
- Test Cycles GPU rendering if required.
- Load essential add-ons and run key Python scripts.
- Check color management and texture paths.
- Render a known test frame.
- Confirm that simulation caches remain valid.
Troubleshooting common problems
Blender crashes at startup
- Update the GPU driver from the manufacturer.
- Launch Blender with factory settings.
- Temporarily move or rename the Blender user-configuration directory.
- Disable third-party add-ons.
- Try another rendering backend where available.
- Test the portable build.
- If production is blocked, return to the previously working version while investigating.
Do not assume that 4.5.4 fixes every startup or rendering crash. Its documented corrections address selected problems, not every hardware and driver combination.

Rendered output changed
Compare the GPU backend, driver, render engine, samples, denoising, color management, add-ons, frame evaluation, linked assets, and simulation caches. Test on the same hardware when exact reproduction matters.
Blender 4.5.4 versus newer releases
Choose according to the project rather than the version number:
- Latest stable Blender: the default for new users and general work.
- Latest maintained 4.5.x: appropriate when a team has standardized on Blender 4.5 LTS.
- Blender 4.5.4: appropriate when exact reproducibility or a validated add-on requires it.
- Blender 5.x or another newer major release: appropriate after testing file behavior, add-ons, render output, and pipeline tools.
- Experimental or daily builds: for testing only; Blender warns that they may be unstable and can break files.
For experimental builds, use Blender’s official build channel and keep them separate from production.
