“Affinity Suite 2.5.6” is not one standalone program. It is an informal name for three separately installed Affinity V2 applications released at version 2.5.6: Affinity Photo 2, Affinity Designer 2, and Affinity Publisher 2.
Version 2.5.6 is now a legacy V2 release. It can still be useful for reproducing an established workflow or project environment, but new users should normally investigate the latest supported V2 build or the newer all-in-one Affinity product before installing an archived version.
What “Affinity Suite 2.5.6” means
Affinity’s official download pages list Photo, Designer, and Publisher separately. There is no conventional single executable called Affinity Suite 2.5.6. The term usually refers collectively to these three Affinity V2 desktop applications at the same release level:
#1 Best Overall
| Application | Primary purpose | Typical painting and design use |
|---|---|---|
| Affinity Photo 2.5.6 | Raster editing and photography | Scanning, retouching, compositing, texture preparation, masks, colour adjustments, and image export |
| Affinity Designer 2.5.6 | Vector illustration and graphic design | Logos, labels, icons, line art, patterns, artboards, and mixed vector/raster artwork |
| Affinity Publisher 2.5.6 | Page layout and publishing | Books, catalogues, reports, brochures, portfolios, and print-ready documents |
They share V2-era interface conventions, licensing arrangements, and a related document ecosystem. Publisher also supports StudioLink, which can provide Photo- and Designer-style editing workflows inside a publishing project when the compatible applications are installed and licensed.
The official Affinity V2 downloads page presents the applications as separate downloads. Installing Photo 2.5.6 does not install Designer or Publisher, and it does not prove that either of the other applications is also version 2.5.6.
What each application does
Affinity Photo 2.5.6
Photo is the raster-focused application. Its relevant capabilities include RAW development, pixel-level retouching, selections, masks, adjustment layers, filters, compositing, and export for web or print. It is suitable for preparing reference images, cleaning scanned artwork, editing photographs, and creating textures or painted composites.
Photo can support Photoshop-oriented workflows and some third-party plug-ins, but compatibility is conditional. PSD features, plug-ins, fonts, colour profiles, embedded objects, and application-specific effects may not transfer perfectly.
Affinity Designer 2.5.6
Designer is intended for vector drawing, illustration, branding, UI design, icons, and artboards. It also supports mixed vector and raster work through its personas and tools. For painters, it can be useful for clean line work, stencils, repeat patterns, signage, packaging artwork, and combining hand-painted elements with scalable shapes.
Affinity Publisher 2.5.6
Publisher handles page layout for books, magazines, catalogues, reports, flyers, portfolios, and other long-form documents. Its publishing tools include master pages, linked text frames, typography controls, preflight, and print PDF export.
Its main suite-level advantage is StudioLink: with compatible Photo and Designer installations, users can access image-editing and vector-design workflows while working inside a Publisher document.
Is 2.5.6 still current?
No. As of the official update listings checked on August 18, 2026, later V2 builds—including 2.5.7 and 2.6.x releases—were listed for relevant applications and platforms. The exact latest version varies by application and operating system; for example, the official Windows Photo page displays 2.6.4, while the official macOS Photo and Designer pages display 2.6.5.
That makes 2.5.6 an archival or compatibility release rather than the normal recommendation for a fresh installation. Consider it when you need to reproduce a known working machine, match a client or enterprise deployment, retain a plug-in-tested environment, or avoid a specific later-version regression. Do not choose it merely because an old download page appears in search results.
What changed in 2.5.6?
The official update pages confirm the existence and distribution of 2.5.6, but the verified sources do not expose a complete, application-by-application desktop changelog for that exact point release. It is safest to describe 2.5.6 as a maintenance release in the 2.5 branch, not as a major feature release.
Do not assume that Photo, Designer, and Publisher received identical fixes across Windows, macOS, and iPadOS. An Affinity staff announcement concerning the iPad release distinguishes 2.5.6 from 2.5.7 and notes an additional PDF-export-related fix in 2.5.7: Affinity’s iPad 2.5.6/2.5.7 announcement.
Official download options
Windows
The official Windows update pages provide separate 2.5.6 installers for each application in two package families:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- MSIX: Serif’s recommended normal installation route.
- MSI/EXE: Intended for situations such as troubleshooting, enterprise deployment, or environments where MSIX is unsuitable.
Each family is offered in two architectures:
- x64: For most Intel- and AMD-based Windows PCs.
- ARM64: For compatible Windows-on-ARM devices, including Snapdragon-based systems where supported.
Use the same installer family across Photo, Designer, and Publisher. Serif cautions against mixing MSIX and MSI/EXE installations, particularly because inconsistent installations can interfere with Publisher’s StudioLink workflow.
The relevant official pages are Photo 2 Windows updates, Designer 2 Windows updates, and Publisher 2 Windows updates.
Rank #3
macOS
The official V2 page provides separate universal DMG downloads for Photo, Designer, and Publisher. Select the application individually and confirm that the download is for V2 rather than the newer Affinity product.
iPad
The official V2 page directs users to separate App Store listings for Photo, Designer, and Publisher. Older iPad versions are not generally obtained in the same way as archived desktop installers. If you need a previous desktop build, use the official Affinity Store update pages and the account entitlement associated with your purchase.

Displayed Windows download sizes
The official pages displayed these sizes for version 2.5.6 at the time of the August 18, 2026 check:
| Application | MSIX x64 | MSI/EXE x64 | MSIX ARM64 | MSI/EXE ARM64 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 733.39 MB | 707.58 MB | 727.51 MB | 701.18 MB |
| Designer | 637.17 MB | 612.07 MB | 631.29 MB | 605.67 MB |
| Publisher | 626.93 MB | 600.09 MB | 621.05 MB | 593.70 MB |
These are practical download figures, not permanent specifications. Serif may replace or rehost files and change the displayed sizes.
How to verify the installed version
- Open Photo, Designer, or Publisher.
- On Windows or macOS, open Help > About, where that menu is available.
- On iPad, check the version shown in the application’s Preferences or its App Store listing.
- Repeat the check in each application. One app showing 2.5.6 does not establish that the other two are also on 2.5.6.
Menu wording can vary by platform and release, so use the version number displayed by the application rather than relying on the installer filename alone.
Licensing and updates
Installation files and activation rights are separate. Possessing an old installer does not automatically grant a licence. A user may have a V2 perpetual licence, an App Store or Microsoft Store entitlement, an Affinity Store purchase, a trial installation, or a different account associated with a newer Affinity product.
Affinity’s support documentation states that V2 customers receive free Version 2.x updates: How to install Affinity V2 updates. That statement should not be extended automatically to every product, store account, or future Affinity generation.
Installation checklist
- Back up first: Copy documents, linked assets, fonts, presets, macros, templates, and plug-in installers.
- Confirm your entitlement: Sign in to the account or store used for the original purchase before removing anything.
- Choose the correct platform build: Use x64 for most Intel/AMD PCs and ARM64 for compatible Windows ARM devices.
- Keep the package family consistent: Install all three Windows applications as MSIX or all three as MSI/EXE where possible.
- Test fonts and plug-ins: Verify that essential fonts load and that plug-ins behave as expected.
- Test StudioLink: Open a copy of a Publisher document and confirm that Photo and Designer tools are available.
- Verify every application: Check the About or version information separately in Photo, Designer, and Publisher.
- Test production exports: Open a duplicate document and inspect the actual exported file, not only the export preview.
Known issues and recovery advice
Export-preview reports
An Affinity forum report describes a 2.5.6 issue in the three desktop applications in which certain raster export previews could show white areas outside page bounds when using selection-area export. The report concerned JPG, PNG, WebP, and JPEG XL workflows; PDF and SVG were not affected in the described case. This is a user-reported issue, not proof that every 2.5.6 installation is defective.
If you encounter it:
- Inspect the exported file itself rather than trusting only the preview.
- Try exporting the full document or another area option.
- Use PDF or SVG when that format suits the job.
- Upgrade to a later maintenance release if your workflow permits.
- Keep the original document and work from a duplicate before downgrading or resaving.
See the reported export-preview discussion.
Fonts and startup failures
Forum discussions document historical 2.5-era Windows reports involving missing fonts and startup crashes while fonts were loading. These reports indicate possible compatibility problems in particular environments, not a universal failure of 2.5.6.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a font-related problem:
- Back up documents, assets, presets, and font files.
- Determine whether one application or all three are affected.
- Temporarily disable recently installed fonts and retest.
- Use an official previous-version installer rather than a third-party archive.
- Avoid opening and resaving an important file in a newer build until compatibility is confirmed.
- Keep the same Windows installer family across all three applications.
Relevant reports include missing installed fonts and startup crashes while loading fonts.
StudioLink mismatches
Publisher may fail to expose or use StudioLink correctly when Photo and Designer come from incompatible sources or installer families. On Windows, avoid mixing MSIX and MSI/EXE packages. Also confirm that all applications are properly licensed and installed at compatible V2 versions.
File compatibility
Affinity can import and export several common formats, but no compatibility claim should be treated as absolute. PSD, AI, PDF, and other files may contain effects, fonts, linked resources, colour profiles, text layouts, or embedded objects that do not round-trip perfectly. Saving a file into another application’s native format can also be destructive. Preserve the original file and test a copy first.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you install Affinity 2.5.6?
| Your situation | Practical recommendation |
|---|---|
| New user seeking current software | Prefer the current official Affinity offering or the latest supported V2 path rather than an archived 2.5.6 build. |
| Existing V2 user with a stable workstation | Keep the working version unless a particular fix or compatibility requirement justifies changing it. |
| Reproducing an old project environment | 2.5.6 may be appropriate if the installer and account entitlement are obtained from official sources. |
| Plug-in or client workflow validated on 2.5.x | Keep a tested copy of the environment and test any upgrade on duplicate files first. |
| Windows ARM user | Use the ARM64 build where supported and keep the installer family consistent. |
| Enterprise deployment | Investigate the MSI/EXE route and vendor deployment guidance rather than mixing packages. |
| Eligible school or nonprofit | Check current Canva Education or Canva for Nonprofits eligibility before pursuing an old V2 installation. |
V2 versus the newer Affinity product
As of August 2026, Affinity’s official press material describes a newer, all-in-one Affinity application combining photo editing, vector design, and page-layout tools, and presents it as free for everyone. That is not automatically the same product as the V2 arrangement of separate Photo, Designer, and Publisher applications.

Before downloading or replacing an installation, identify which product you need:
- Affinity V2: Separate Photo 2, Designer 2, and Publisher 2 applications, including the legacy 2.5.6 workflow.
- Newer Affinity: The newer all-in-one product described by Affinity’s official press page.
- Education and nonprofit access: Eligible K–12 schools, teachers, and nonprofits may qualify for no-cost access through Canva programs. See the official eligibility information.
Do not uninstall a working V2 installation until you have checked your entitlement, backed up documents, and confirmed that the replacement supports your file and workflow requirements.
Alternatives by workflow
- Adobe Creative Cloud: A strong choice for teams requiring Adobe-native Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign workflows, broad agency compatibility, or additional applications such as After Effects and Premiere Pro. It is subscription-based; check current Adobe plans for live pricing.
- Canva: Useful for template-driven social, presentation, marketing, and collaborative content. It is less suited to deep vector construction, advanced prepress, or an offline-first professional workflow. See Canva’s current plans.
- Affinity V2: A sensible fit when you specifically need the separate Photo, Designer, and Publisher workflow, an existing V2 licence, or compatibility with a validated legacy environment.
- Newer Affinity: Worth investigating for new users who prefer an all-in-one application and do not need the exact V2 application separation or legacy deployment image.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Affinity Suite 2.5.6 free?
The old installer and a licence are separate matters. Existing V2 customers are entitled to free V2.x updates, but an archived installer does not by itself grant activation rights. Check the account or store entitlement used for the original purchase.
Can I install only Affinity Photo 2.5.6?
Yes. Photo, Designer, and Publisher have separate installers. You need Designer and Photo installed as well only if you want Publisher’s corresponding StudioLink workflows.
Can I install 2.5.6 beside a newer Affinity version?
Do not assume side-by-side installation will be safe or supported. Back up documents, verify licensing, and check the official installation guidance before mixing generations or store versions.
Is Affinity V2 still supported?
The existence of legacy downloads does not establish a current support policy. Later V2 builds are listed after 2.5.6, so use the official update pages and support documentation for the current status of your application and platform.
