Short answer: As of August 18, 2026, Midjourney does not document a free trial on its main website or through Discord. The one currently documented legitimate free route is a limited trial in the niji · journey mobile app for iOS and Android, if the offer appears for your account. Rating images can earn Fast GPU time, but only active subscribers can receive and use that reward.
The old “25 free prompts on Discord” method is no longer an official option.
Is Midjourney free in 2026?
Midjourney is primarily a subscription service. Its official free-trial documentation currently says that free trials are not available on midjourney.com or through Discord, while a limited trial is available through the niji · journey app on iOS and Android.

Midjourney does not publish a universal number of free generations, a fixed trial duration, or a guarantee that every account or region will qualify. Treat the terms displayed inside the official app as the authoritative offer.

| Route | Free generation access in 2026 | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Midjourney website | No general free trial documented | Used for account management and paid generation. |
| Midjourney Discord | No free trial documented | Discord access remains available to subscribers. |
| niji · journey app | Limited trial currently documented | Eligibility, limits, and availability may vary. |
| Rating tasks | Not a free plan | Fast-time rewards require an active subscription. |
The legitimate free method: try the niji · journey app
- Open the official niji · journey listing in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
- Confirm that the publisher and app listing are official before installing.
- Open the app and sign in or create an account using its current login flow.
- Look for a trial or free-generation notice.
- Read the displayed allowance and expiration terms before generating.
- Use the trial within that stated allowance.
- Before accepting a subscription offer, check the price, billing interval, trial end date, automatic-renewal language, and cancellation instructions.
If no trial appears: assume the offer is unavailable or your account is not eligible. Do not create duplicate accounts to bypass limits, and do not assume that an old screenshot or tutorial still applies.
Niji is a separate Midjourney model family and app experience focused on anime, Eastern, and illustrative aesthetics. It should not be treated as identical to the full Midjourney website or Discord experience. Midjourney’s version documentation lists the default Midjourney model separately from Niji; as documented, V8.1 is the default Midjourney version and Niji 7 is a separate model released in 2026. See the current version documentation for changes.
What no longer works
The old 25-prompt Discord trial
Older guides commonly instruct new users to join the Midjourney Discord server, run /imagine, and receive roughly 25 free prompts. That advice is outdated under the current official policy: Midjourney says there is no free trial through Discord or the main website.
Creating new Discord accounts
Making additional accounts to restart a trial is not a reliable or recommended workaround. It can create account, abuse, billing, and terms-of-service risks. A new Discord account does not restore the former official trial.

Unofficial bots, mirrors, and “cracked” apps
A website or bot promising unlimited free Midjourney generations is not evidence of an official offer. Avoid services that request your Discord or Google credentials, claim to unlock paid features, use Midjourney branding without clearly identifying themselves, or send you to payment pages outside the official Midjourney service.
Free GPU time without a subscription
Midjourney’s rating tasks and occasional surveys can award Fast GPU time, but this is not a way to use Midjourney without paying. An active subscription is required to receive and use awarded Fast time.
How “free Fast time” actually works
Subscribers can open the Tasks page on midjourney.com and complete available image-rating tasks or surveys. The documented reward rules include:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The top 2,000 daily image raters can receive one extra Fast hour.
- The daily reward is competitive, so it is not guaranteed.
- Awarded Fast time expires 30 days after it is given.
- You must already have an active subscription.
In practical terms, these rewards can reduce the cost of a subscription, but they do not create a free Midjourney account or free generation access for unsubscribed users.

How to avoid an accidental subscription charge
If the niji trial is offered—or you decide to pay for one month—use this checklist:
- Confirm that the screen says “trial” rather than presenting a normal paid subscription.
- Record the price and whether billing is monthly or annual.
- Check the date on which payment begins, if a trial end date is shown.
- Read whether the subscription renews automatically.
- Use only the official app-store flow or Midjourney’s official website.
- Set a reminder before the renewal date.
- If you subscribe, review the renewal date and cancellation confirmation in your account.
Annual billing is not a free trial. It is a discounted paid subscription charged upfront.
The cheapest legitimate way to use the main Midjourney service
If you specifically want the main Midjourney website or Discord workflow, the lowest-cost documented option is the Basic plan: $10 per month or $96 per year in Midjourney’s plan documentation checked on August 18, 2026. Prices and features can change, so verify the current amount before paying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Go to the official Midjourney website.
- Sign up or log in with Google or Discord.
- Open the Manage Subscription page.
- Choose Basic and confirm the monthly or annual billing option.
- Generate on the website, or connect an eligible Discord account.
- Set a renewal reminder if this is only a one-month test.
Basic includes approximately 3.3 hours, or 200 minutes, of Fast GPU time per month. That is GPU time—not a guaranteed number of images. Actual usage varies by model, operation, resolution, and settings. Basic does not include unlimited Relax image generation, and unused monthly Fast time does not carry over. See Midjourney’s current plan comparison and Fast-time expiration policy.
Which plan makes sense if you decide to pay?
| Need | Most suitable route | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Quick test of the main service | Basic | Limited Fast time and no unlimited Relax mode. |
| Frequent image generation | Standard | Unlimited image generation in Relax mode, but Relax is slower and queued. |
| Privacy-sensitive professional work | Pro or Mega | Higher cost; Stealth Mode is limited to these plans. |
| High-volume production | Mega | Usually unnecessary for casual testing. |
Standard was listed at $30 monthly or $288 annually, Pro at $60 monthly or $576 annually, and Mega at $120 monthly or $1,152 annually in the same dated documentation. These are subscription prices, not trial prices. Unlimited Relax images also do not mean unlimited Fast or Turbo generation; consult the GPU speed guide.

Use the right login
If you previously used Midjourney through Discord, log in with the original Discord account when possible. Midjourney warns that using Google instead can make old image history difficult to find or create account-linking complications. Check the official account-connection guidance.
A Discord account previously used to make Midjourney images may also fail to connect to a subscription in the expected way. Verify the Discord email and username before authorizing the connection; the Discord guide explains the current process.

You can browse public community creations on Midjourney’s site, but viewing the Explore page does not grant free image-generation access. Midjourney describes its community as open by default, so do not assume that Basic or Standard creations are private. Stealth Mode is available on Pro and Mega, subject to the current plan rules.

Be careful with shared accounts
Using a friend’s account can create ownership, privacy, billing, and access problems. The account holder may be able to see the work, and creations may be publicly discoverable depending on the account’s settings and plan. For a clean separation of control and records, use an account owned by the person creating the work. Commercial users should review Midjourney’s current terms rather than assuming that account sharing settles rights or permissions.
Is Midjourney worth paying for?
- Casual tester: Try the niji mobile offer first. If it is unavailable, a free alternative may be more sensible than subscribing solely to experiment.
- Reader who specifically wants Midjourney: Choose Basic for the least expensive main-service test.
- Frequent creator: Consider Standard when unlimited Relax image generation justifies the higher price and slower queue.
- Privacy-sensitive professional: Consider Pro or Mega because Stealth Mode is not included with Basic or Standard.
- Commercial user: Review the current Terms of Service. Midjourney’s plan information says subscribers may use their images and videos under its general commercial terms, while companies exceeding $1 million in gross annual revenue must purchase Pro or Mega.
What to use if the niji trial is unavailable
If your app shows no trial and you only need to test prompt-to-image generation, compare a free or freemium alternative such as Adobe Firefly, Ideogram, Leonardo.Ai, Canva AI, or image generation through ChatGPT.
Do not assume any of these is equivalent to Midjourney or that its current free allowance, commercial rights, privacy policy, watermarks, or account requirements are the same. Compare the specific feature you need—such as readable text, illustration style, editing workflow, privacy, or commercial use—against the provider’s current terms.
Bottom line
In 2026, the official free option is narrow: you may be able to generate images through a limited niji · journey mobile-app trial. The main Midjourney website and Discord do not currently document free generation access. Rating rewards are extra Fast time for active subscribers, not a free plan. If the niji offer is unavailable, choose either the paid Basic plan for a one-month test or a genuinely free alternative—never an unofficial bot or account workaround.
