Procolored P13 Review: Is This DTF Printer Right for a Home Studio?

The Procolored P13 offers 13-inch roll-fed DTF printing, but a home creator must budget for curing, pressing, white-ink maintenance and ongoing consumables.

The Procolored P13 is a 13-inch roll-fed DTF printer aimed at small apparel businesses, but it is only one part of a production setup: you still need to powder and cure transfers, heat-press them, and maintain the printer’s white-ink system. It may suit a creator with regular orders, room for the whole workflow, and a willingness to handle upkeep. For occasional shirts or a plug-and-play experience, outsourcing transfers is likely the more sensible starting point.

What the Procolored P13 does

Direct-to-film (DTF) printing makes a transfer rather than printing directly onto a shirt. The P13 prints artwork onto PET film; adhesive powder is applied to the wet print and cured, then a heat press bonds the transfer to a garment or other suitable item. The printer does not perform the powdering, curing, or pressing stages.

Procolored positions the P13 for home businesses and lists a single Epson XP600 printhead, roll-fed film, a built-in cutter, automatic cleaning modes, laser film-flatness detection, and a waste-ink alarm. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent reliability or print-quality findings. The P13 product page offers Windows and macOS versions; select the version for the computer you intend to use.

P13 specifications at a glance

The following are manufacturer-listed specifications. They describe the machine, not independently measured performance.

Specifications and estimates are from Procolored’s P13 listing. The advertised eight-print-per-hour figure refers to Letter/A4 prints under a stated print setting; it is not a guaranteed rate for finished transfers or shirts. Artwork coverage, white-layer density, pass count, loading, cutting, powdering, curing, pressing, cleaning, and operator time all affect usable output.

What comes with the printer—and what else you need

Procolored lists the printer-only package with five 250-ml CMYKW ink bottles, 500 g of adhesive powder, a 100-m PET film roll, Pro RIP software download, a USB dongle, power and USB cables, a printhead moisturizing device, nozzle protection fluid, tubing, a dust-free cloth, and a syringe. Confirm the contents and operating-system version on the exact configuration before ordering; bundles and availability can differ.

A printer-only purchase does not necessarily include the rest of the production line. You will need a heat press and a method to cure the powdered transfer. A shaker can automate powder application, while an oven can cure it; bundle contents vary. You will also need a compatible computer, additional consumables over time, workspace, cleaning supplies, and a plan for ventilation and waste. Procolored lists oven and other bundle options on its Windows bundle page; check the selected bundle rather than assuming a press or curing equipment is included.

Print quality: what the specifications can and cannot tell you

The 720 × 1440 dpi, 16-pass listing and CMYK-plus-white configuration indicate the machine’s advertised output mode and ink arrangement. They do not establish how clean fine text looks, how opaque the white underbase is, how well gradients reproduce, or how a transfer performs after repeated washing. The available product information does not provide independent wash-test or comparative color-accuracy results, so a durability or quality verdict would be premature.

Finished results depend on more than the printer: film and powder, RIP settings and white-layer configuration, curing, press temperature and pressure, garment fabric, and peel instructions all matter. Before committing a customer order, make samples using the intended materials and workflow. Inspect small details and edges, check for residue, and test adhesion and wash performance under repeatable conditions. Ask the seller for a sample transfer if you cannot evaluate a complete production setup first.

Maintenance is part of the ownership cost

White ink contains pigment that can settle, so it needs attention even when the printer has automatic cleaning features. A weak or interrupted white layer can leave dark-garment transfers looking inconsistent; blocked nozzles can also produce missing colors or streaks. A nozzle check before production helps reveal problems before they become customer-facing prints.

Procolored advertises automatic cleaning and sleep-mode timers, and claims its 12-, 24-, and 36-hour timer options reduce ink waste by 58%. That percentage is a manufacturer claim, not an independently established result. Automatic cycles do not remove the need to follow the maintenance procedure: Procolored’s P13 maintenance guide describes manual waste-ink extraction and ink-flush procedures. Its ink and printing-pattern guide covers ink-pattern and nozzle-check workflow.

Before purchase, establish how often the manufacturer expects the machine to print, what to do during extended inactivity, and what warranty and service apply to the printhead and ink-delivery parts. Do not assume an automatic cleaning feature makes it safe to leave the printer idle indefinitely. Follow the model-specific manual for agitation, cleaning, storage, and waste-ink handling.

Setting up a home DTF workspace

The printer’s listed dimensions and 13-inch width make it more compact than an industrial production line, but the full process still needs dedicated room. Film rolls and garments need storage; powder can contaminate nearby surfaces; curing adds heat and odor; and cleaning involves ink and fluids. A stable, level surface also matters for a roll-fed device.

Plan a production area rather than treating the printer as a desk accessory. Keep powder handling and curing away from food preparation and sleeping areas, and check local safety requirements and equipment guidance for ventilation. The available P13 information does not set a universal ventilation specification, so do not infer one from the printer’s compact size. A shaker or oven bundle may reduce manual handling but brings added footprint, heat, noise, and ventilation considerations.

Windows or macOS: choose the right version first

Procolored sells Windows and macOS configurations and instructs buyers to select the version that matches their computer. The existence of both options does not establish that their drivers, RIP features, updates, profiles, or support procedures are identical. Before ordering, confirm supported OS versions, whether the dongle is platform-specific, how software updates work, and whether you can move the setup to another computer later.

What the P13 really costs

When checked on August 18, 2026, Procolored’s U.S. printer-only listing displayed a regular price of $4,299 and a promotional price of $3,599. These are observed listing prices, not a guaranteed current quote or delivered cost. Bundles and stock varied by operating-system configuration; shipping, tax, duties, and warranty terms can change the amount you actually pay. Check the current printer listing and your selected configuration before purchase.

The full setup costs more than the printer. Include the curing method, heat press, computer if needed, initial and replacement consumables, workspace, ventilation or filtration, shipping and taxes, and any electrical or storage changes. Ongoing costs include film, CMYK and white ink, powder, garments, cleaning fluid, waste ink, failed prints, test runs, packaging, electricity, fees, labor, and reprints.

Procolored’s product page illustrates a per-garment cost model using a $3 blank, $0.45 ink, $0.60 film, and $0.06 powder. Those are promotional assumptions, not an audited cost estimate for your operation; the displayed profit example does not account for every expense a seller faces. Use your own supplier prices and include spoilage, fees, packaging, labor, and maintenance.

A useful break-even calculation is:

Break-even garments = total equipment and setup cost ÷ contribution margin per completed garment

Contribution margin should subtract the garment, ink, film, powder, packaging, platform and payment fees, labor allowance, and expected spoilage from the selling price. If your likely order volume is low or irregular, compare that result with buying finished transfers from a trade printer rather than relying on the manufacturer’s profit example.

P13 versus Epson SureColor F1070

The Epson SureColor F1070 is a different proposition: it supports both DTG and DTFilm, uses Epson’s PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead and UltraChrome DG2 ink, and sits within Epson’s professional-imaging support channel. It is not a like-for-like DTF-only alternative, and its ink system is limited to genuine Epson ink packs according to Epson.

Consideration Procolored P13 Epson SureColor F1070
Workflow DTF printer; transfer powder curing and heat pressing are separate steps. DTG and DTFilm capability; consult Epson for workflow requirements.
Listed price when checked U.S. printer-only listing: $3,599 promotional, $4,299 regular, checked August 18, 2026. Standard Edition page displayed $4,995 MSRP; Business Edition page displayed $8,245 and was marked out of stock, checked August 18, 2026.
Ink constraints Procolored lists CMYK + WW; confirm compatibility and warranty terms before using other consumables. Epson specifies genuine Epson ink packs only.
Support positioning Procolored documentation and seller support; confirm warranty, repair shipping, and parts terms for your location. Epson professional-imaging support and service structure.
Best-fit reason Buyer wants a DTF-focused workflow and a lower observed printer-only price. Buyer values hybrid DTG/DTFilm capability and Epson’s formal support ecosystem.

Prices are page observations and can change. See Epson’s F1070 Standard Edition page, Business Edition page, and DTFilm support information. The evidence here does not establish that either printer is universally faster, more durable, or less expensive to own.

When outsourcing transfers is the smarter choice

Ready-made transfers are a serious alternative if orders are sporadic or demand has not been proven. Outsourcing avoids owning a printhead and white-ink system, maintaining powder and curing equipment, stocking consumables, and absorbing downtime or failed prints. You trade that control for supplier turnaround, possible minimum orders or rush charges, and a per-transfer cost that affects margin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Compare the supplier’s delivered transfer cost and turnaround with your own complete internal cost, including labor and expected waste. If outsourcing is cheaper at your current volume, you can validate designs and sales before investing in production equipment. A heat press can still be useful for applying purchased transfers.

Who should buy the P13?

  • Consider it if you already sell apparel regularly, want control over transfer production, can use a 13-inch work area, and have room and budget for curing and pressing equipment.
  • Consider it cautiously if you are starting a home business: confirm actual order demand, landed price, support terms, and the full workflow before treating the printer as a profit opportunity.
  • Wait or outsource if you make occasional shirts, have no curing or pressing setup, cannot tolerate downtime, need industrial throughput, or expect unattended, maintenance-free operation.
  • Compare the Epson F1070 if direct-to-garment as well as DTF capability and a more formal service structure justify its different workflow and ownership constraints.

Questions to resolve before ordering

  • What is the delivered price to your location after shipping, tax, and duties?
  • Is the displayed discount active, and is the selected configuration in stock or marked as coming soon?
  • Does the selected package include the curing equipment and heat press you need?
  • Which OS version, RIP features, and dongle are supplied, and can support confirm compatibility with your computer?
  • What warranty applies in your country, who pays return shipping for repairs, and how are replacement parts obtained?
  • What is the current printhead price, and which printhead or ink-delivery components are covered?
  • What maintenance is required during normal use and extended inactivity?
  • Which film, powder, ink, and curing settings does the seller recommend, and are third-party consumables compatible and warranty-safe?
  • Can you obtain a sample transfer or see a live nozzle check before committing?

Verdict

The P13 is a credible 13-inch DTF option for a small apparel operation that expects regular work and is prepared to manage white ink, cleaning, consumables, curing, and pressing. Its width, roll feed, and listed starter supplies make it a more complete starting point than a bare printer, but not a turnkey shirt-making system. It is not automatically the ultimate choice for a beginner, low-volume seller, or business that needs industrial throughput and established local service; compare its full ownership cost with outsourcing before buying.
