You can make a homemade Sims plumbob by building its recognizable diamond silhouette, finishing it in translucent green, and choosing whether it will be worn or displayed. Because the surfaced cosplay tutorial does not publish a materials list or construction method, this guide gives a dependable planning and assembly sequence without pretending to reproduce undocumented steps. It covers a non-powered wearable prop first, then explains how an illuminated display version differs.
Choose the plumbob you are making
Decide the use before buying or cutting anything. A wearable cosplay piece must stay light, secure, and comfortable. A desk or wall display can be heavier and can hide a power source, switch, and wiring. The fabrication route also changes: cosplay craft uses a hand-built shell, while a separate maker project demonstrates a 3D-printed, Arduino-powered plumbob with LED tape light. That project is a precedent for an illuminated display, not proof that its electronics or construction transfer to a wearable headpiece.

Step 1: Define the shape and mounting
Use the familiar crystal silhouette
A plumbob reads as two pyramidal halves meeting at a narrow center, with sharp upper and lower points and broad diamond-shaped faces. Sketch the front, side, and top views at the size you need. Keep opposite faces symmetrical; uneven angles are more noticeable once the surface is painted.
Plan how it will be supported
For a wearable prop, decide where the support attaches before closing the shell. The attachment must carry the prop without concentrating pressure on one small area. For a display, decide whether the lower point rests on a stand, enters a base, or hangs from a concealed mount. Do not assume a wearable mounting method will safely support a heavier illuminated shell.

Step 2: Select a documented build route and gather its actual materials
The available cosplay-video listing identifies a DIY plumbob tutorial but does not expose its bill of materials or procedure. Use the materials shown in the specific tutorial you intend to follow, or use a separately verified pattern and material list. Do not substitute a guessed shopping list for those missing details.
For the illuminated route, the maker project establishes 3D printing and LED tape as possible components. It does not identify a particular printer setting, LED model, voltage, controller, battery, or marketplace listing. Choose components only after confirming that the shell, controller, power source, and wiring are compatible.

Step 3: Build the two crystal halves
- Transfer your measured faces or verified pattern to the selected construction material, or prepare the 3D-printed parts from the source design.
- Cut, form, or print matching upper and lower halves. Check that the center edges meet evenly and that the top and bottom points align on one axis.
- Dry-fit the halves before permanent assembly. Correct gaps and twist while the parts are still accessible.
- Leave an access route if the design will contain lighting, a switch, or a battery. A sealed shell is difficult to repair.
These are design-stage steps rather than a reproduction of the undocumented video. The exact cutting, joining, curing, or print settings depend on the material and pattern you selected.
Step 4: Assemble and refine the surface
- Join the halves using the joining method specified for your chosen material.
- Allow the joint to set fully before handling the point or attaching a mount.
- Inspect every face in strong, even light. Refine visible seams and corners only with a process compatible with the material.
- Test the support separately. For a wearable version, gently move and turn while holding the mount; for a display, confirm that the base or hanger does not tip.
Step 5: Create the green crystal finish
Apply a translucent or transparent green finish suited to the surface you built. Work in thin, even coats so the faces retain their angular highlights rather than becoming a flat opaque block. Mask or protect the mounting area and any opening reserved for electronics. Let the finish dry according to its product instructions before adding hardware.

Step 6: Add lighting only to a design that supports it
Lighting is optional for a wearable prop and more practical for a stationary display. LED tape is mentioned in the 2015 maker project, but no specific product, voltage, or wiring plan is established there.
- Confirm the LED tape, controller, battery or adapter, and switch use compatible voltage and connectors.
- Route wires so they cannot be pinched by the shell or become a snag hazard. Keep a serviceable opening for inspection and replacement.
- Insulate exposed electrical connections and follow the component manufacturer’s installation and power guidance.
- Test the lighting with the shell open before final closure. Stop if a component becomes hot, smells unusual, or behaves erratically.
- For a wearable prop, secure the power source away from the head and body in a way that does not pull on the mount. A stationary display avoids that mobility problem.
No tested electrical safety, runtime, brightness, or performance figures are available for this project, so treat the lighting as an untested build and use listed components according to their instructions.

Step 7: Finish the mount and test the complete prop
Wearable check
- Verify that the prop stays centered when you walk, turn, and look down.
- Check that edges, fasteners, and wires cannot contact skin or catch on clothing.
- Take breaks during wear; the available sources do not establish a safe maximum wearing time or weight.
Display check
- Place the finished piece on its intended surface and test stability from several directions.
- Keep the power connection accessible and away from moisture.
- Recheck the mount after moving the display; no durability test is documented for this project.

Electronic Arts announced a limited-edition Plumbob Collection on February 28, 2024, inspired by The Sims 4 Crystal Creations Stuff Pack. The named pieces were a Plumbob Statement Ring, Plumbob Layered Necklace, and Plumbob Drop Earrings. EA wrote: “Each piece of The Plumbob Collection was designed by our team within the game and ultimately crafted using the Plumbite Crystal and Gold Metal.” The announcement describes the launch, not current stock.
