Maker Faire Hannover 2025 brought hands-on technology, art, education and imaginative builds to Hannover Congress Centrum on August 23–24, 2025. The event is over, but its mix of inventive machines and participatory making offers a vivid snapshot of the maker scene—and of how technical craft can become a visual spectacle.
What Maker Faire Hannover 2025 was
Maker Faire Hannover was a public maker gathering, not a conventional trade fair: a place to see projects, meet their builders, learn and try activities. Make: previewed the event under the motto “Where ideas dance and technology inspires.” Daniel Rohlfing, Head of Events & Sales at Maker Faire Germany, said the phrase reflected “the spirit of both the show act and the wide variety of projects on display.”
Make:’s July 2025 preview anticipated more than 1,000 makers across more than 230 booths and said 30 percent of exhibitors were new. In its August 29 retrospective, event partner Reichelt Elektronik reported around 19,200 visitors and growth of over 20 percent compared with the prior year. Make: had separately described the fair as drawing over 15,000 attendees; that advance description and Reichelt’s later figure are differently timed claims, not a reconciled official count.
The projects that made the fair feel alive
The preview’s lineup ranged from practical builds to theatrical machines: a fully electric VW Golf 2, a DIY lawn-mowing robot, the “Amalettomat” crêpe-making machine, smart birdhouses, 3D-printed music boxes and an open-source CNC milling machine. It also announced R2-D2 replicas, steampunk cosplay, robot battles, live combat by the German Roboteers, YouTube creators, food trucks and HEBOCON, a deliberately chaotic junkbot competition.

La Danseuse, the mechanical ballerina
The standout show act was La Danseuse, a giant mechanical ballerina by Spanish theater collective Antigua i Barbuda. Make:’s preview described the figure as five metres tall; Reichelt’s after-event account called it six metres high. Both accounts present a towering kinetic sculpture whose dancing motion turned engineering into performance.
Robots and hands-on demonstrations
Reichelt’s retrospective highlights a Go2 Air robot dog and Booster Robotics T1 humanoid robot among the attractions. At Reichelt’s partner presence in the Weller Tools stand, visitors could try pyrography and soldering kits and see the WXsmart modular hand-soldering platform. These activities brought the making process into view: visitors could observe tools and machines, and in some cases try a craft themselves.

Raspberry Pi and the Knowledge Hub
Make: announced Raspberry Pi creator Eben Upton as a Knowledge Hub speaker, with a talk about the how, why and future of Raspberry Pi. The preview described the computer’s origin as an effort to help students learn programming using an affordable, accessible mini computer. It also reported that tens of millions of Raspberry Pi units had sold worldwide and that more than 200,000 were selling per week worldwide; those are figures reported by Make: in 2025, not independently confirmed here by Raspberry Pi.

That extensibility helps explain why the platform appears in so many kinds of maker projects: it can serve as a small programmable controller within a larger build.

What the event’s mix says about making
Reichelt’s retrospective names 3D printing, robotics, Raspberry Pi projects and upcycling among the major trends at the 2025 fair. Taken together with the previewed projects, those areas show how broad “making” can be: it includes digital fabrication, electronics, mechanical problem-solving, reuse, performance and visual design. The common thread is turning an idea into something people can see, operate or experience.
