How can you add storage drawers to a Blackstone griddle? A DIY shown by Kendall Azevedo uses two 7-gallon plastic totes and drawer slides attached beneath the griddle’s middle shelf. Hunker reported the parts cost less than $60 on October 2, 2026, but the build was fitted to one unidentified Blackstone model—not tested as a universal plan. Measure your own griddle before buying parts or drilling.
What the tote-and-slide hack uses
Hunker’s October 2, 2026 report describes Azevedo’s husband removing the griddle’s middle shelf, attaching brackets and drawer slides, fixing the slides to the totes, then reinstalling the shelf with the totes underneath.

Measure your griddle before choosing parts
The report says the components were measured and fitted for the Azevedos’ particular Blackstone, but it does not identify the model or publish dimensions. Do not assume the same tubs and 14-inch slides will fit your griddle.
Before purchasing or drilling, measure the available space under the middle shelf and check the full path each tote will travel. Confirm that the tubs, slides, brackets, and fasteners clear the shelf and nearby griddle parts when the drawers are both closed and pulled out. The source does not provide a model-specific dimension chart or a tested installation plan.

How the reported installation works
- Remove the middle shelf from the griddle.
- Measure and mark the positions for the slide rails and brackets on the shelf.
- Screw the rail brackets to the shelf and attach the sliding rails to the totes, as shown in the reported build.
- Reinstall the shelf with the totes positioned beneath it, then check that they slide and clear the surrounding parts.
The report does not specify measurements, fastener dimensions, or a drill pattern. Treat the sequence as a description of the featured build, not a complete plan for every Blackstone model.
Account for exposed screw ends
In the featured setup, screw ends protrude above the middle shelf, and the tote lids cover them. Hunker mentions a metal sheet or repurposed pallet wood as possible alternatives. These are suggestions in the report, not tested fixes; consider the protrusions and the shelf’s use before settling on a cover.

What belongs in the drawers—and what does not
The reel shows storage for items such as spatulas, portable trays, cleaning supplies, and parts of a Blackstone breakfast kit. The drawers are not fully sealed against rain or pests, so do not treat them as weatherproof or pest-proof storage, and do not store food in them.
