Bhavi Mehta won the 2024 Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize for the cover of The Book Beautiful, written by Pradeep Sebastian and published by Hachette India. The award recognizes the cover’s design; it is not evidence of a measured effect on the book’s sales.

What won the prize
The winning cover is for The Book Beautiful by Pradeep Sebastian. The official shortlist identifies the publisher as Hachette India Adult & Business, an imprint of Hachette India. Mehta’s project page categorizes the work as fiction, names Hachette India as the client and dates the project to January 2023. Her portfolio records it as a 2024 Oxford Book Cover Prize winner.
Mehta’s portfolio uses the shorter name “Oxford Book Cover Prize”; the official announcement and contemporaneous coverage call it the Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize.

When and where the winner was announced
The award unfolded in two stages. The Apeejay Surrendra Group announced a seven-title shortlist in Kolkata on February 10, 2024, during the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival. Oxford Bookstores announced Mehta as the winner on April 29 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Scroll reported that she received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
What the prize recognizes
The organizers describe the prize as recognition of book design and of the relationship between a cover’s illustration and a book’s story. Their release says a cover can interpret a book’s content. That is the award’s stated rationale, not a finding that this cover—or book covers generally—increases sales or changes reader behavior.

The jury and Mehta’s design practice
The official shortlist release names a jury comprising author and Member of Parliament Dr. Shashi Tharoor; author and columnist Shobhaa De; author and academic Dr. Kunal Basu; museum curator and jury chair Dr. Alka Pande; Apeejay Surrendra Group director Priti Paul; and guest jurors Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens and Anja Riedeberger.
A May 2024 Scroll profile described Mehta as a freelance designer specializing in editorial design, particularly book covers. That description reflects the profile at the time, rather than a claim about her current professional status.
