Rainbow Chevron Mini is a free, small pieced-quilt pattern from AllPeopleQuilt, published January 7, 2016. The finished quilt measures 10½ × 14½ inches, with 2-inch finished blocks. Its colored units are arranged in vertical rows to create a wave-like chevron effect. See the Rainbow Chevron Mini pattern at AllPeopleQuilt.
What fabric and batting do you need?
The pattern’s yardages and cutting instructions assume 42 inches of usable fabric width, and its measurements include ¼-inch seam allowances. Check the usable width before buying: a narrower cut may not yield the listed pieces as planned.

How is the chevron effect pieced?
The construction builds left- and right-hand segments from colored rectangles and small white squares, pairs segments into units, then joins the units in rows. The white corner triangles create the angled edges that read as waves or chevrons when the colored units are oriented and arranged as directed.
- Cut 140 white squares, each 1½ inches, then cut the colored rectangles in the quantities specified in the pattern.
- On the back of each white square, mark a diagonal. Align it with a colored rectangle and sew along the marked line.
- Trim the excess fabric, leaving a ¼-inch seam allowance, and press the attached triangle open.
- Repeat to make the left- and right-hand segments, following the pattern’s piece counts and orientation instructions.
- Sew a left- and right-hand segment together to form each unit. Units measure 2½ inches unfinished, yielding 2-inch finished blocks after assembly.
- Arrange the units into vertical rows in the pattern’s numerical order, orienting units as shown. Sew the rows together, following its pressing directions.
Use the pattern’s cutting chart and row diagram for exact rectangle counts and the arrangement; those details determine the final color sequence and orientation. Open the illustrated instructions.

How do you finish the mini quilt?
Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing, baste the layers, quilt as desired, and bind using the black-and-white stripe strips. Jody Sanders’ example is machine-quilted with chevrons through the centers of the units, horizontally across the top; that is the maker’s example, not a required quilting design.
Pattern details and credit
AllPeopleQuilt describes the design as “An array of solids arranged in vertical rows creates a rainbow of waves.” The page credits Jody Sanders as quilt maker and says the project was inspired by With Flying Colors, designed by Megan Pitz. The fabrics are identified as solids from the Tropicana collection by Cherrywood Fabrics.
