Pastel Delectable Mountains is a pieced quilt pattern designed by Mabeth Oxenreider—not a landscape painting. First published in American Patchwork & Quilting in June 2005, it makes a 90 × 106-inch bed quilt from Delectable Mountains blocks, with alternate wall, twin and king sizes and three optional pillow projects. AllPeopleQuilt’s pattern page, updated April 23, 2026, provides the dimensions, material quantities and assembly instructions.
What size is Pastel Delectable Mountains?
The main quilt top finishes at 90 × 106 inches. Each Delectable Mountains unit finishes at 8 inches square. The pattern also gives three alternate quilt sizes:

These are the pattern’s stated finished dimensions, not mattress measurements. Select a version based on the coverage you want, then follow that version’s size chart; yardage and batting requirements change with size.

For the 90 × 106-inch version, the pattern’s quantities assume 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton and include a quarter-inch seam allowance.

The quantities are specific to this pattern and its main size, not general estimates. Check the corresponding chart on the pattern page before buying fabric for a wall, twin or king version.
Choosing prints
The block palette is assorted pastels paired with white or cream prints, while the stripe and blue floral fabrics create the two borders and binding. The designer, Mabeth Oxenreider, suggests: “If you begin with a fabric collection you love and add other bits of fabric from your stash, you’ll end up with a more interesting quilt.” Treat that as an invitation to coordinate prints, not as evidence that every substitution has been tested.

How do you make a Delectable Mountains unit?
The pattern’s cutting and piecing method produces two identical units at a time. Each unit should measure 8 1/2 inches square before it is sewn into the quilt, allowing for the seams; it finishes at 8 inches square.

- Sew the small colored and white or cream triangles into triangle-squares.
- Arrange those pieces with the remaining small pieces and a 2 1/2-inch square, following the pattern diagram.
- Join the arranged pieces, then add a medium colored triangle.
- Add a large white or cream triangle to complete the unit.
- Repeat until you have the number of units required for your chosen quilt size and, if desired, the patchwork pillow.
Use the pattern’s diagrams and cutting instructions for exact piece shapes and placement; the written overview alone is not a substitute for its cutting chart.

How is the quilt assembled and finished?
- Arrange the units into 12 horizontal rows for the main quilt, using the layout shown in the instructions.
- Join the units across each row, then sew the rows together to make the quilt center.
- Add the multicolor stripe inner border and blue floral outer border.
- Layer the top with the batting and backing, then quilt as desired.
The published sample uses feathered wreath quilting around groups of four units and parallel lines in the outer border. That is one sample treatment, not a required quilting method.
