Maple Leaf Log Cabins is a wall-hanging quilt pattern—not a cabin rental guide. It combines maple-leaf units with log-cabin-style framing and finishes at 35-1/2 × 44-1/2 inches, with twelve 9-inch finished blocks. The project’s instructions and supply list are published by American Patchwork & Quilting.
What is the Maple Leaf Log Cabins quilt?
This wall hanging pairs maple-leaf units with low-contrast, neutral-tone log-cabin frames so the leaves stand out. The page credits Laura Boehnke as quiltmaker and says the design was inspired by “Scattered Leaves” by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts. It identifies fabrics from Lonni Rossi’s Black and Tan and Peppermint Party collections for Andover Fabrics; those names describe the project fabrics, not a requirement to find those collections today.
Finished size and layout
- Finished quilt: 35-1/2 × 44-1/2 inches.
- Finished block: 9 inches square.
- Construction: twelve leaf units become twelve framed blocks, arranged in four horizontal rows. Check the direction of the leaves as you lay out the rows.
The joined quilt center measures 27-1/2 × 36-1/2 inches before borders. The pattern’s listed cutting measurements include 1/4-inch seam allowances; its fabric quantities assume 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton.
Fabric, batting and backing needed
| Material | Quantity | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Gray print | 1/3 yard | Leaf-unit background |
| Assorted light-to-medium prints in gold, orange and magenta | Twelve 7-inch squares | Leaf pieces |
| Assorted medium-to-dark prints in gold, brown and rust | 1 yard total | Log-cabin-style framing strips |
| Black-and-gold print | 7/8 yard | Border and binding |
| Backing fabric | 1-1/2 yards | Quilt backing |
| Batting | 42 × 51 inches | Quilt interior layer |
For substitutions, preserve the contrast and color roles: lighter leaf prints against darker framing, with the gray print as the leaf-unit background. Choose quilting cotton that matches the stated width and fiber assumptions when following the listed yardage; different widths or fabric content may affect usable yardage. The pattern does not require a particular brand or current collection.

How the blocks come together
- Cut the components. Cut the gray background squares, leaf-print pieces and darker framing rectangles to the sizes specified in the pattern instructions.
- Piece twelve leaf units. Each unit combines two triangle-squares, a long-and-short rectangle unit, a stem unit and a background square. The unit should measure 5 inches with seam allowances.
- Add the framing strips. Frame each leaf unit with medium-to-dark strips to make twelve blocks. Each block measures 9-1/2 inches with seam allowances, yielding a 9-inch finished block.
- Arrange and join the rows. Set the twelve blocks in four horizontal rows, checking leaf direction before sewing. The joined center should measure 27-1/2 × 36-1/2 inches with seam allowances.
- Finish the quilt. Add the pattern’s specified borders, layer the top with batting and backing, quilt as desired, and bind with the black-and-gold print.
