Melon Patch Circles is a small wall-quilt project made from four curved-pieced blocks. The finished quilt measures 37-1/2 inches square, and the pattern specifies yardage for dark and light prints, brown print borders and binding, backing, and batting.
What the Melon Patch Circles pattern makes
AllPeopleQuilt published Melon Patch Circles on June 14, 2013. Its quilt center consists of four Melon Patch blocks arranged in a square. Contrasting dark and light prints give the blocks their pattern; brown print borders finish the quilt top.

How the curved blocks fit together
Prepare the A and B units
Each A and B curved unit should measure 8-1/2 inches square, including seam allowances. The pattern recommends slender pins to help hold the curved edges in alignment.
Pin and sew the curved seams
- Match the marked points on the curved edges of the A and B units.
- Pin at the center and ends, then add pins at the intermediate matching points.
- Sew the curved edges together, easing the fabric between the pins so the marked points stay aligned.
The assembled block should measure 16-1/2 inches square including seam allowances. Join four blocks to create a 32-1/2-inch-square quilt center, also measured including seam allowances. Brown print borders bring the top to its 37-1/2-inch finished size.

Finishing the quilt
Layer the quilt top with the batting and backing, baste the layers, quilt as desired, and bind the quilt. The pattern does not specify a particular batting type or quilting design.

Use the pattern’s dark-versus-light contrast as the main selection guide: choose prints that remain distinguishable when the curved pieces meet. Coordinate the colors across the dark and light groups and the brown border, and confirm that your chosen prints are available in the required quantities. Keep the stated fabric width and cotton composition in mind when estimating yardage; different widths or fabric types may change what you need.
