“End of summer clipart” can mean beach-and-vacation art, classroom imagery for the last days of summer, or harvest scenes that lead into autumn. Choose the visual direction that fits your project first; then check the file format and the license for the specific image you plan to use.
Choose the kind of end-of-summer image you need
The phrase does not point to one standard subject. These three visual directions serve different projects:
- Beach and vacation: Choose beach scenes or vacation graphics for summer-themed classroom materials, invitations, and other designs that still feel like summer. Teach Simple’s indexed listing describes an end-of-summer beach and graphics set with digital papers for classroom and educational-resource use; it also states a credit requirement. Because the listing page could not be verified directly, check the live listing for current contents and terms before using it. Teach Simple
- Classroom summer: For worksheets, bulletin boards, or educational resources, look for general summer illustrations intended for classroom use. A Teachers Pay Teachers listing, “Summer Watercolor Clipart,” describes 18 images as high-resolution 300 DPI PNG files with transparent backgrounds. The seller identifies teachers, homeschool educators, tutors, parents, and educational-resource sellers as intended users. View the Teachers Pay Teachers listing.
- Harvest and summer-to-fall: If you want the change of season rather than a beach theme, choose harvest imagery or illustrations explicitly framed as “summer turns to fall.” Shutterstock’s harvest bundle is an early-autumn option; a separately surfaced image is marked CC0. Neither should be treated as representative of every “end of summer” listing. See Shutterstock’s harvest clipart article and check the “Summer Turns To Fall” image.
Compare formats before downloading
File format affects how easily an image fits into a design. A transparent PNG can be placed directly over a colored background without a rectangular backdrop. Vector files are useful when you need to resize or edit an illustration in compatible software; JPEG files are convenient for many image uses but do not support transparency.
| Example | Formats and specifications described | What that means for a project |
|---|---|---|
| Teachers Pay Teachers “Summer Watercolor Clipart” listing | 18 high-resolution PNG images; transparent backgrounds; 300 DPI, according to the seller | Ready to place over classroom pages or other backgrounds. The 300 DPI description is a specification for this listing, not a general standard for summer clipart. |
| Shutterstock harvest bundle | 20 illustrations provided as EPS, PNG, and JPEG, according to the article | Offers multiple formats for different workflows. The article also says a license document is included; consult that document for the permitted uses. |

Terms such as “free,” “royalty-free,” and “commercial use” do not by themselves tell you whether you may modify an image, redistribute its original file, or sell the file on its own. Check the selected image’s terms for your exact use, and note whether attribution is required.
Rank #2
- Using art in a project: Confirm whether the license permits your intended use, including a classroom handout, online design, or product for sale.
- Sharing or reselling the file: Do not assume permission to redistribute an image comes with permission to use it in a finished project.
- Credit and attribution: Check whether the creator requires credit and how it must be given.
- Open-license labels: A “Summer Turns To Fall” image surfaced as CC0, and one clipart library describes its images as public domain (CC0) or clearly labeled open license. Verify the individual image’s status rather than applying one site-wide assumption to every asset. Check the individual image listing and review the clipart library’s license information.
The Teachers Pay Teachers seller says the watercolor files may be used personally and commercially, including in products for sale, but may not be resold or shared as original files; the listing also requests credit. These are that seller’s terms, not a universal clipart rule. Shutterstock’s harvest article says its bundle prohibits resale or redistribution of the assets. Read the terms attached to the image you choose rather than transferring conditions from one listing to another.
Microsoft’s Office support guidance advises checking the requirements set by the image’s specific source. It also states: “Ultimately, though, you’re responsible for making sure you comply with the licensing requirements for specific images.” Read Microsoft’s image guidance.

Choose an image by project
- For a classroom page or bulletin board: Decide whether you want the season to read as beach vacation, classroom summer, or early autumn; then check that the format works in your layout and that your use is permitted.
- For an educational resource you plan to sell: Read the seller’s commercial-use terms closely, especially restrictions on sharing original files, and follow any credit requirement.
- For print or online design: Check format and resolution requirements in the software or service you will use, and confirm modification and distribution rights in the image’s license.
- When you want an autumn transition: Search for harvest or “summer turns to fall” imagery rather than relying on the broad phrase “end of summer.”
