A location logo is a brand-approved version of an organization’s identity that adds a place name—such as a city, district, branch, venue, or event—without redesigning the core mark. There is no universal layout or size standard: use the brand owner’s current guide and approved artwork. The phrase can also refer to a logo used as a label on an interactive venue map, which is a separate application.
What does “location logo” mean?
Most often, a location logo identifies a local unit, branch, property, or event while retaining the parent organization’s identity. It is usually a controlled variation of an existing logo, not a new logo made by adding text wherever it fits.

The term also describes a business or tenant logo displayed as a label on a digital map. In that use, the logo helps identify a point of interest rather than forming a location-specific version of the organization’s main brand mark.
How to make or request a location version
- Find the brand owner’s current identity guide. Check whether it provides a location-logo template, permits a local text lockup, or requires approval. Do not assume another organization’s rules apply.
- Use approved artwork. Preserve the logo’s proportions, colors, components, and effects as directed. Add the location name only in the specified position and style.
- Check the name and layout. Follow the owner’s rules for typeface, color, alignment, spacing, and maximum width. If the name is long, use an approved adjustment rather than shrinking or repositioning elements by guesswork.
- Check legibility in context. Confirm clear space, contrast, and readability at the intended size on screen, in print, or on signage.
- Choose the correct file for the output. Use the supplied asset and confirm the platform or printer’s production requirements before export.
- Get permission where required. If the guide does not authorize your use, contact the brand owner before publishing or producing materials.
Why brand-specific rules matter
There is no single supported standard for location-logo layout, color, minimum size, or permission. Official guides illustrate how much requirements can vary:

- DeNA: Its official logo guideline says use is generally not allowed without permission, requires the logo itself to be black or white, and specifies a protected area. It gives minimum widths of 12 mm in print and 36 px on screen; those dimensions apply to DeNA’s logo, not to logos generally. See DeNA’s Logo Guideline.
- The Boys’ Brigade: Its branding guide describes a layout for a company, battalion, or district name beneath the logo, including rules for type, color, spacing, alignment, and width. It also says not to stretch the logo unevenly, change its colors, move its elements, or apply effects. The guide recommends transparent PNG for web or video and layered placements, TIFF for print, and EPS for scalable professional print workflows; confirm that these formats meet current production requirements. - National Business Crime Centre: Its 2024 Safer Business Action events guidance says organizers can request a location version of the Safer Business Action Day logo with the town or city name; the guidance says there is no cost for that request. This is specific to that program, not a general free-logo service. See the NBCC communications guidance.
Location logos on digital venue maps
A venue map may use a business or anchor-store logo as a floating label beside a mapped location. Mappedin described this capability in a product update dated November 30, 2023, as a way to make top locations easier to identify and discover. That is a dated description of one vendor’s feature, not a universal map convention or independent evidence of usability. Check the current platform’s behavior before designing around it. What to check before publishing
- Is the logo owner’s permission or approval required?
- Is there an official location-specific asset or template?
- Does the local name follow the required wording, position, type, color, and width rules?
- Are clear space, contrast, and size adequate for the actual medium?
- Does the supplied file meet the requirements of the website, printer, sign fabricator, or map platform?
