You can find frame PNG images through searchable libraries such as Pixabay, but “free” does not guarantee the same usage rights everywhere. Check the exact download’s format, transparency, and license before placing it in a painting, photo, or design—especially if the finished work is commercial.
Where to find frame PNG images
Pixabay
Pixabay has searchable collections for transparent frames and frame PNGs. One photo-frame listing identifies its file as a PNG and says it is free to use under the Pixabay Content License. That listing is evidence about that asset, not a guarantee that every result has the same format or terms.
Pngtree
Pngtree’s frame results include free and premium listings. Its help page says downloads for free users are limited to personal and private use, require attribution, and cannot be sold. Do not treat a free listing as cleared for commercial use on that basis; check the terms for the particular download.

Unsplash
Unsplash’s license allows free commercial and noncommercial use without required attribution, with restrictions: you may not sell unmodified images or compile images to replicate a competing service. The cited license does not establish that Unsplash is a dedicated source of frame PNG overlays, so it is best treated as a reference for image-use rules rather than a frame-specific catalog.

Compare the usage terms before using an image
| Source | What the cited information establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Pixabay | A specific photo-frame listing identifies a PNG and says it is free under the Pixabay Content License. | Read the current terms for the exact asset and intended use; do not assume every listing has identical format or rights. |
| Pngtree | The help page says free-user downloads are for personal and private use, require attribution, and cannot be sold. | Confirm whether the listing is free or premium and review the license attached to the download, particularly for commercial work. |
| Unsplash | The license permits free commercial and noncommercial use without required attribution; it restricts selling unmodified images and compiling images to replicate a competing service. | Check that the image suits the frame-overlay need and follow the license restrictions. |
These terms are not interchangeable. A license stated for one platform or individual listing does not grant rights to assets from another source. For a commercial painting, print, or design, verify that the license covers your specific use rather than relying on the word “free.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check a frame PNG before using it
- Open the individual listing. Confirm that the actual download is a PNG and note whether it is marked free or premium.
- Inspect transparency in your editor. A PNG label alone does not establish that the center or background is transparent. Open the downloaded file in the program where you plan to use it and check the areas that should show through.
- Read the license for that asset. Check commercial use, attribution, sale, redistribution, and any other restrictions against your intended project.
- Test it in the final layout. Place the frame over a sample image or design to confirm the transparent areas and composition work as expected.
Catalogs and search results can change, so availability and listing details should be confirmed on the source page when you choose a file.
