How to choose the right file format
PNG for a ready-to-place image
PNG is a pixel-based image. It can be convenient for placing a graphic directly in a painting, card or other design. Check the actual dimensions and confirm that the downloaded file—not just its preview—has the transparent background you need. The Commons PNG above is only 172 × 167 pixels, so it is better suited to small on-screen use than a large print.

SVG for resizing and editing

Check transparency, size and licensing before use
- Open the exact asset page. Confirm the listed file type and download the original format you need; a preview image may differ from the original.
