Remi Lane’s concern for garment workers, formed while she was studying fashion, led her to co-found Perth label REMI with her mother, Carilyn Brown, in 2018. The label aimed to offer ethically made clothing at an accessible price, but its reported factory certification is not proof that every labor issue was resolved. REMI announced it was closing in May 2025; a later report described Lane’s new venture, Loomi, a reusable bottle.
Who is Remi Lane?
Lane is a Perth fashion designer who co-founded the clothing label REMI with her mother, Carilyn Brown. In a 2022 profile, she said she realised at age 11 that fashion design was a career she wanted. She later studied for four years at South Metropolitan TAFE in Bentley. PerthNow’s April 2022 profile traces the label’s founding to what Lane learned during her studies about difficult conditions for factory workers.

What did ethical fashion mean to Lane?
Lane said learning about garment workers’ conditions motivated her to create a label where customers could shop with a clear conscience. REMI’s stated aim was to combine quality and ethical production with a price point she considered accessible. Lane described the intended middle ground as an alternative both to cheap fast fashion and to very expensive high-quality clothing; that was the brand’s positioning, not an independent assessment of its prices or quality.
In a 2023 interview with Malakai the Label, Lane stressed that knowing where clothing is made matters, saying workers’ lives can be at stake when brands do not know or care who makes their garments. She also recommended the documentary The True Cost.

Where were REMI clothes made?
PerthNow reported in 2022 that REMI used factories in Indonesia and China that were certified by BSCI, an industry-driven initiative intended to improve workplace standards in global supply chains. Lane said finding factories that aligned with the brand had taken years: “The hardest thing was finding an ethical factory, it took us years to get the manufacturers we use now because we wanted factories that align with us.”

That is a historical account of the label’s manufacturing, not an independent audit. The profile did not name the factories or publish audit findings or worker interviews; it therefore does not establish that certification guaranteed fair wages, safe conditions, or full supply-chain traceability.
What did REMI make, and when did it close?
In April 2022, PerthNow described REMI as known for casual resortwear and as having expanded into 1970s-inspired athleisure. Its Tempo Libero range was reported at A$80–A$110 at the time, and Lane was preparing a size-inclusive resortwear collection called Babylon. Those are period details, not evidence of a current collection or price.
On 1 May 2025, PerthNow reported that REMI announced it was officially closing after eight years. The announcement said: “With a mix of sadness and excitement for the future, we’re writing to share that Remi Label is officially closing its doors.” The report described the label as founded by Lane and her mother and inspired by 1970s fashion. Current sales, remaining stock, and resale availability are not established.

An August 2025 PerthNow report described Lane’s later venture, Loomi, as a triple-insulated stainless-steel bottle with a ceramic-lined interior and interchangeable slips, straps, and charms. Lane said the concept was to make hydration a fashion accessory while helping protect the bottle from damage. The report also mentioned planned colours and possible future variations and collaborations; it does not establish that those plans happened or that Loomi is currently available.
