Perth studio Sherwood Design won the 2024 Society of British and International Design (SBID) Awards’ Residential House Over £1M — Australasia category for Casablanca, a Mosman Park home on the Swan River. It was a regional category win, not the overall SBID award. The studio is led by Gabrielle Sherwood and her mother, Rose.
What did Sherwood Design win?
PerthNow reported on 25 November 2024 that Sherwood Design had taken the Residential House Over £1M award for Australasia at that year’s SBID ceremony, held in London earlier in November. The official SBID Casablanca entry identifies the same category and lists Sherwood Design as the practice, but labels Casablanca a 2024 finalist rather than displaying a winner designation. Sherwood Design’s later retrospective, published on 19 December 2024, calls the result its 2024 Australasia regional win. Taken together, the sources support describing the result as a regional category win—not an overall SBID winner. PerthNow’s report and Sherwood Design’s account report that outcome.
Which project was recognised?
The project was Casablanca, a residence in Mosman Park, Perth, overlooking the Swan River. The SBID entry describes a design that brings Spanish Colonial heritage references together with contemporary elements. Its entrant-provided description also highlights a mix of communal rooms and more intimate retreats, along with furnishings, local craftsmanship and curated art. These are the design team’s descriptions of the project, rather than an independent assessment of its style.

Who are the mother and daughter behind the studio?
PerthNow identifies Gabrielle Sherwood and her mother Rose as the studio’s leaders. Sherwood Design’s December 2024 retrospective says Rose and Greg started Sherwood Design and Sherwood Furniture, respectively, nearly 40 years earlier. For Casablanca, Rose and Gabrielle worked closely on the interior, while Greg contributed bespoke pieces, according to the studio.

Gabrielle told PerthNow that the team’s work extended from hard-surface selection through to styling: “Our team handled everything from selecting hard surfaces to final styling, ensuring a cohesive and thoughtfully crafted space.” The quotation describes the studio’s reported scope on the project; it does not establish that every element was made by the studio. Sherwood Design’s own account specifically credits Greg with bespoke pieces.
