The Tut Wuri Handayani logo is Indonesia’s education emblem. The Ministry’s manual explains its five-sided light-blue field, motto, lit belencong with a Garuda motif, book and symbolic colors. For artwork, start with the Ministry’s own materials; the sources below provide official references but do not establish which file is the current master version.
What the Tut Wuri Handayani emblem represents
The Ministry says Ki Hajar Dewantara used the motto in his educational system and that its inclusion honors him. The Ministry’s emblem page cites Decree No. 0398/M/1977, dated 6 September 1977, for the emblem’s designation. Read the Ministry’s account of the emblem.
Elements and meanings in the logo manual
The Ministry’s logo manual describes the emblem as a group of elements whose forms and colors carry distinct meanings. Consult the official logo manual.
#1 Best Overall
The five-sided light-blue field
The five-sided field represents the realm of Pancasila life.
The motto
The manual connects the motto’s use with Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational system and describes its inclusion as completing the respect paid to him.
Rank #2
The lit belencong and Garuda motif
A belencong is a lamp used in wayang kulit performances; its light brings the performance to life. The Garuda represents dynamic, powerful, capable and independent courage.
The feathers and book
Each Garuda wing and its tail have five feathers. Together, they signify “satu kata dengan perbuatan Pancasilais” (“one word aligned with Pancasilais action”). The book represents a source of knowledge useful to human life.
Rank #3
Color meanings
- White: On the Garuda’s wings and tail and on the book, it represents purity, cleanliness and sincerity.
- Gold: On the flame, it represents dignity and elevated service.
- Light blue: It represents enduring service and a Pancasila outlook.
Where to find official logo references
The Ministry’s National Education Day 2024 guidance lists a downloadable Tut Wuri Handayani logo among its event materials, alongside other logos and a logo manual. It is a useful official reference, but the listing does not establish that its attachment remains the current master artwork. See the Ministry’s 2024 guidance and logo references. The manual is another official source for the emblem’s design and explanation.

The Ministry’s guidance published 27 April 2026 addresses the National Education Day event logo, not every use of the Tut Wuri Handayani emblem. For those event materials, it says the event logo may appear in the upper right or opposite the Tut Wuri Handayani or relevant agency logo, and should not be placed adjacent to that logo. Read the 2026 event-logo guidance.
